Martial agent looking for a new club for him

He’s clearly got a lot of talent, which makes is what makes him so frustrating. Just hasn’t worked out, for whatever reason

Then do enlighten us because you seem to know more than most around here, which only means one thing...
Or the fact that you can look up on any internet site and see the figures??
13% of income generated last season was from match day across all teams...
Just do a bit of research, it isn't hard.

Comparing Berbatov to Martial is very disrespectful to the Bulgarian.

How so?

Martial has been given one chance to play a full season as the main striker for us and he scored more than Berbatov in his best ever season for United whilst being a lot younger. Also in that season he offered far more outside of goals.

Talent isn't worth shit, if talent doesn't work.

He's Berbatov/Anelka 2.0 and it doesn't work with how United are willing to play. Writing was on the wall when Cavani started banging them in at 35.

Put a fork in him, he's done at United.

I don’t subscribe to nothing that isn’t successful. So saying a man doesn’t work with our crap style of play and unsuccessful trophy cabinet is peeing in the wind to me. Especially when Big Rom is out here winning… Sold because he doesn’t suit our style but yet you speak about Cavani who plays exactly the same as Rom.

Absolute carnage. New DoF I hope you have some sense.

did you just say Cavani and Lukaku play the same way?

His talent is undeniable, but his work rate and ethic, especially his half-hearted scoffs when he loses the ball, instead of fighting to get it back, have led him to be a second choice here, and it won't get better for him anywhere if he doesn't change his attitude.

Not really, Martial has a similar/better scoring rate despite spending half his career here on the wing. I’d wager that his big game record is much better too.

Berbatov was the league top scorer in one season for us.

Martial's talent is way overrated anyway, in my opinion. Good but nothing exceptional.

Just a rumour, take with a huge pinch of salt

richarlison is being considered for RWF. Replacement for Martial. Sancho will still go ahead but can play both sides

Cavani is second to none in finding space and I actually liked how Jose put it recently, that Cavani was our best defender. There is no other player I would really compare him to. He makes his teammates better.

doesn’t he play on the left?

left sided forwards are 10 a penny, we already have a few. Did see a rumour (maybe too obvious), that Barca are now after him.

i like him, and think he can make a step up - but it’s an area in which we already have strength.

I honestly thought last season was going to be a bit of a break out season for Martial but it was just more of the same unfortunately. He's one of those players that I'd always be reluctant to get rid of because if he can ever get everything in order then he could be serious player but it does feel like we're getting to the point where it might be better for both parties to try something new.

I like him too and he can play both sides, have seen him on the RW and down the middle. Actually think he’s similar in many ways to martial just a bit more hardy

We knew what we got when we signed him. Very talented but had a disciplinary issues with Monaco if I remember correctly, it's clear that he was never a very motivated player. After almost 6 years of being here I think it's fair to say we've given him enough time and he's always had problems motivating himself, same old problem. On his days he's very good but his low is bad, not quite the 29 y.o Rooney's bad but even back then we didn't tolerate Rooney. I have also seen posts criticizing Nani back then to be such a hot and cold player. We can't have a main striker that is hot and cold. Ole made a right decision to sign Cavani, he knows his stuffs when it comes into CF.

Tevez, Suarez, Cavani etc are all great at the basic things; closing people down, getting into the 6 yard box, chasing lost causes. Martial is as talented as anyone but he does not do the basic things well. These basic things are the main prerequisite for a top player. I don't think he will change. He is spoiled and lazy. I would love to see him at his very best but I don't think he will ever do it consistently. He is a bad example to those around him and Utd would probably be better to get rid sooner than later.

Tevez was sold after his second season because that was literally all he could do.

He was on a loan deal from his 3rd party ownership. He was not sold. The loan deal finished.

When Martial does the same for us we can compare.
Like it or not, it’s a valid comparison currently, and not to dismiss Berbatov’s achievement but he scored almost half of his league goals that season in three games. Just like Martial, he was largely inconsistent and his season culminated in him being left out of the squad for the champions league final for Michael fecking Owen. He was also often accused of laziness and sulking, just like Martial, on the Caf and I’m the media. So let’s not pretend it’s a disrespectful comparison just because it’s the in thing to shit on Martial right now.

You can compare them but Berbatov will always come better though, not because Berbatov himself was just great (we all know this signing had its up and down and didn't live up to its hype), but the reality is Martial has done nothing of note so far in his United career. Few good moments here and there but overall nothing worthy.

Let him go.

Very talented player, and his debut goal against Liverpool was one of my favourites. However, he's been very disappointing overall. Very inconsistent and does not respond well to pressure and adversity.

I wish him good fortune in the years to come.

My problem with Berbatov is that he lacks of movement and too static, and also lazy. Even Rio Ferdinand also called out something similar. That’s literally what people are moaning about Martial.

The biggest issue for him with Cavani’s signing isn’t that Cavani has given him competition for that position, it’s that Cavani had demonstrated in the absolutely starkest terms just where Martial is lacking.

When you have a 34 year old not only using his nouse and experience with clever movements but also busting a gut from the first minute to the 90th minute to hassle, pressure and develop opportunities for himself and his team mates, it really shows up what a static, low energy player Martial is and we don’t have space in the team for that sort of player anymore.

100% agree.

The Bulgarian legend surely got one thing though, vision and genius footballing brain.

Martial, seems to lack in that department, making Berbatov a better player and a better striker in general.

It's a pity if Martial leaves without reaching his potential. He reminds me of Anderson, great talent but unfilled talent.
In Martials cases, he's a typical player that we will be talking about in year's to come and say he could have been. He lacks the critical components need to be able to play as a number nine, movement and anticipation. I'm sure in years to come, he has regrets, but we can't keep waiting for him to get to the next level, sadly it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Thing is people say that Martial is the best finisher after Greenwood, but this season was an eye opener.

He did progressed as a player, from one trick finishing pony (right foot far side curler), to quick footed no.9.

But when he did transformed himself to a no.9, he seems to lose his composure in front of goal. It is probably a mental thing, some players just couldn't bear the pressure of being the main man.

People forget that the exact criticisms people have about Martial were said about Berbatov. Funny enough, he was also compared to a poacher type of striker in Chicha. And what's even more funny is that as soon as Welbeck came into the picture, people then moaned about Chicha when comparing him to Welbeck, who eventually fell out of favor too.

I hope this rumor is true, he obviously does not want to be here, just look at his facial expressions and his body language. I also hope that he finds a team that he actually wants to stay put with.
Finding a replacement should be very easy by the way, just find someone who puts in little to no effort every game.

Given a new DM may be sacrificed in favour of getting Sancho and a CB, I wouldn't be opposed to selling him if it can fund a good DM. We can survive without Martial(we've kinda shown that already) than we can survive without a new DM

He’s capable of the amazing, but only seems bothered one game in 5.
After all this time I think it’s pretty clear he’s not going to change.
Hopefully we get a decent fee but I can’t see many teams giving him £250k per week……

Selling Martial right now is stupid. Last season if we had sold him we could have got 60-70M+ because he had a 20G+ season. This season if we sell him(because he was off form and injured), we will be lucky to get 30M. Let him stay here for another season, he will obviously play better than this season, and we can then sell him.

Oh and Martial is lucky to be compared to Berbatov. Lots of fans who can only appreciate footballers if they run around like a headless chicken might not like to hear it, but Berbatov was a genius on the field. Great player.
