Marouane Fellaini | Transfer Out Speculation: Tianjin Quanjian rejected chance to sign him

Obi Mikel had brilliant technique to begin with - there was a reason why he was so highly rated in the first place.

Fellaini will do the basic things faster and more accurate than your average Chinese player but the thing is, he isn't capable of a Scholes-esque diagonal pass or Lampard-esque shot from outside the box, even without any pressure. When you look at Rooney, for example, he isn't able to do those things consistently anymore when he is under pressure - but give him enough time and he will do it 9 times out of 10. You can give Fellaini the infinity and he still won't be able to pass/shoot like that.

Of course he still be a better player that your Chinese footballers, but the difference won't be that big, because the things that elevate great players from ordinary ones are, actually, his weakness.

The difference will be massive. The Chinese league is shocking. It's not even Championship level. Fellaini would run rings around pretty much every player.

I would think Tianjin didn't want him because he's not exotic enough of a player for one of their foreign slots.

Marouane Fellaini says he isn't ready to leave Man Utd for China

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has confirmed he is not ready for a transfer to China, claiming it would spell the end of his international career.

The 29-year-old has endured a mixed time at Old Trafford since signing from Everton for £27.5m in 2013, with United fans having jeered him on occasions although he has retained the faith of manager Jose Mourinho.

The Belgium international was linked with a January transfer to Fabio Cannavaro's Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian, but a move failed to materialise.

"We will see but this is not a priority," Fellaini told Sport/Foot Magazine.

"But I am honest, if I am going to China, it is finished for me the national team. The first thing I do is call the coach to tell him that I stop."

United recently invoked a one-year extension clause in the 74-cap midfielder's contract to keep the Belgium midfielder at the club until 2018, but reports of a transfer away have persisted.

Mourinho has kept faith in the Belgian despite widespread criticism, and Fellaini has publicly thanked his manager for the backing.

"He could have killed me, but, no, he defended me, he protected me," Fellaini added.

"I will never forget."

Any team wanting to play decent type of football will turn down Fellaini, but any team that wants to get a battering ram will snap him up if United made him available. Question is, who offered him up to the Chinese side, United or his agent. Apart from peak Fernondo Torres, no one has given Rio and Vidic a tougher time than Fellaini when he was at Everton. There is a reason Mourinho wants to keep him around.

Where did this happen on Fifa?

It may have happened but i don't even remember Fellaini scoring against us while we had ferdinand and Vidic at the back.

Haha, exactly!

He did show off his amazing patented chest control to be honest.
It must have been enough to torment and scar many United fans for years for them to think Fellaini destroyed us years

Carrick was playing at CB in that match and marking him on the corner.

So did he ever score against us with Rio and Vidic at the back?
You're right. Thought the above post mentioned this goal. Can't remember anything else.

Me either mate, he gave us trouble a few months before in the 4-4 against Rio and Evans. But by that stage Rio was nearly done, i don't ever remember him even giving us problems vs Rio and Vidic. I think those two games have stuck in peoples memories, he never actually caused us much trouble for the most part.

Nah you need video evidence mate, that looks photoshopped lol.

Fair enough he did score against us before then, still he was hardly Rio and Vidic's toughest opponent. No where near the level of threat that Torres was for a few years as someone claimed.

Of course not.

I was more scared of Morten Gamst Pedersen anytime we played Blackburn. Now that is player that scarred me for a while.

I like it that he is already talking about China. They will love you there Marouane and you will get shitload of money. Who cares about Belgium NT anyway.

Manchester United FC's Marouane Fellaini was close to joining Napoli on loan

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini says he was close to joining Serie A side Napoli on loan after being told he would not even be Louis van Gaal’s third choice central midfielder.

After Van Gaal was appointed Red Devils chief Fellaini was told by the manager he would be his fourth choice in the middle of the park, prompting the Belgium international to consider his future elsewhere.

In the summer of 2014 Fellaini nearly joined Napoli on loan, reports the Manchester Evening News, after Van Gaal bolstered midfield options with the signings of Ander Herrera, Angel di Maria and Daley Blind for a combined £102.5m.

Injury scuppered Fellaini’s move and he kick-started his United career in his third appearance of the season with his first goal for the club at West Brom, having replaced Herrera at the interval.

The 29-year-old ended both of Van Gaal’s campaigns as a first-teamer but admits he was open to leaving United after just a year.

“When Louis van Gaal came he said: ‘You can stay, but you’re not my first choice, not my second, nor my third,’” Fellaini told Sport/Foot magazine. “I wanted to leave but I double-folded and in a few weeks’ time I managed to change his mind.”

Jose Mourinho’s man-management of Fellaini earlier this season was widely praised, particularly after the £27.5m signing conceded a late penalty to gift Everton a draw in December.

A section of the United support booed Fellaini the following week at Old Trafford but he steadily improved and scored crucial goals the following month against Hull and Wigan, celebrating the former by hugging Mourinho.

“He could have killed me, but no, he defended me,” Fellaini explained. “He protected me, I will never forget him.

“He must have had the rage after my penalty at Everton but he did not tell me when I returned to the locker room.”

Mourinho said in August he telephoned Fellaini during the European Championship to assure the Belgian he would remain at United and the midfielder remains grateful for the Portuguese’s man-management.

“Mourinho called me before and during the European Championship and told me: ‘You’re not going anywhere, I’m counting on you’. I have a good relationship with him,” he added.

“I think it’s just a good person if you work hard, you never drop. He has a great personality, people respect him.”

Tanjin Quanjian coach Fabio Cannavaro claimed last week he rejected the chance to sign Fellaini before the Chinese Super League transfer window closed and Fellaini spoke about the possibility of playing in the Far East.

“We’ll see but this isn’t a priority,” he added. “I’m honest: if I go to China, it’s over for me the national team. The first thing I do is call the coach to tell him that I stop.”

Apparently nobody fits Cannavaro's style of play.

Is he some kind of visionary with some new style of play never seen before.
well they are only allowed 3 foreign players in the team and he has brought Witsel, Pato and Moraes (a Brazilian striker) so clearly at least 3 people who were available fit his style of play better...
Witsel is allegedly on £225K per week £130K Goal Bonus and £50K appearance fee... If I was fellaini Id be telling my agent to take mandarin lessons and find me a clup ASAP

Can't help if you suffer from amnesia. Check out a replay of his games against United when he was playing for Everton, or at least Google the scoreline to see who scored for Everton.

Well it was discussed mate in this thread. It was concluded that he scored once against United when Rio and Vidic were playing in 2008. So i would say comparing Fellaini to Torres in terms of tough opponents that gave us trouble is a stretch.

If scoring against us is an indication of quality then Michael Mifsud was the dogs nuts.

I like Fellaini and think he offers us options for tactic changes and formations, a valued member of the squad.

The man isn't going anywhere, gives me the same vibe that Lingard gives me that he will stay on as a squad option despite not quite being good enough. Both LVG and Mourinho seem to like him.

He's always one injury away from playing. Gives me the creeps.

He's a good lad, can't fault him for his effort. Also, on multiple occasions he's shown to have much bigger balls than the rest of the squad and had his moments.

Problem for him, he's just not the type of player to get us back on top.

For this reason alone it is the best for all concerned if we part ways this summer.

I think he'll go in the summer. I have nothing against him, he's not bad and I like his attitude but his limitations harm us when he's relied upon as anything other than an impact sub or emergency starting midfielder. I would like us to sign an upgrade on him for this summer, someone who can battle Herrera for a starting position and won't represent a significant step-down in quality if he needs a long run in the team.

I suspect Fellaini won't go anywhere. He'll be at Old Trafford next season.

Jose has this nasty reputation of buying or keeping at least one 'flop' per tenure against any sensible judgement. The key thing for him is loyalty.

He did it with Kezman and Del Horno in Chelsea. He did it with Adebayor and Michael Essien in Real Madrid (who buys an Adebayo for a Real Madrid, anyway?) and he did it with Quaresma and Muntari at Inter Milan. Fans either didn't want those players in at all or they wanted them sold. Jose never listened. At least not on time.

Fellaini looks like a Jose boy both in terms of how he can be deployed to do dirty jobs, break up play or use his height against tall teams. He also cuts the picture of a player that would be one of Jose's strongest loyalists in the dressing room.

He'll likely stay. The good thing is that his play in the last few games has been decent for a squad player. Maybe he'll yet prove his price. Who knows?

However much longer Fellaini stays at United i think that particular ship sailed long ago.
