False CB was something a lot of fans had been saying for Jose to use since LVG was sacked since it was the next step needed to be taken after the initial 352. Especially since we had Blind at the time who would have been an insane false CB.

The improvement we are seeing right now is due to us playing the back 3 for the first time how we should have been using a false CB.

Seriously - is anyone surprised? Anyone remember the posters talking about 352 to be used with a false CB & also a false CF in the same team. When we actually include the false 9 our game will be immense due to the direct position that the they will take up on the pitch vertically from each other.

Looks like the Lvg fans were right  hint check the name.

Because its a clumsy leg stuck out and he didnt get the ball. Thats why the penalty was given.

The guy was already on his way down way before the tackle came in. It was definitely not a clumsy tackle.

I've always thought Matic at the base of midifeld is quite an average player. Fellaini helps him play in a much more natural box-to-box role. The balance seems right.
He's no Busquets or Alonso but is better at getting forward than those two. A Felly-Pogba-Mativ triumvirate may be the way Jose will go. I thought Fred looked good in the first half against Spurs - full of energy. Maybe he'll play in advanced role to accommodate all four?

I don't think Fred is ready for premier league yet. He is far too easy to dispossess at the moment.

For me, we should play Fellaini or Herrera at the base of the midfield depending on the opposition. If we are up against a couple of bigger strikers, start Fellaini and if we are up against a possession based team, start Herrera.

Yes, it was. Thats why it was given. Yes in slow motion you can see he wanted the penalty, but its easy in the moment for a referee to see a stuck out leg not getting the ball and the player going down. Thats clumsy. If you put your leg in like that inside the box you need to get the ball. Or dont do it

Your laughs don't effect me bud.

My post on Daley blind in June - before anyone else talked about False CB :

"Why I may overrate blind is not because I regard him as a truly wonderful sole CB like the next Ramos - instead I find him a player who has the balance of playing a mix between CDM/CB hybrid player that can bind life to the centre of a back 3. A bit like Luiz but with much more class and ability on the ball. When we play a back 3 we don't need 3 cb's we need 2 and 1 false CB like Blind.

That's why I rate him. He has the ability to give us the right balance between attack & defence in a back 3 due to his experiences at CDM & CB whilst he will 100% make smalling & Jones better next to him & vise versa."

Now Jose has used that with Fellaini - fair enough.

Then I also made threads about how the 352 is better for united than Jose's traditional 4231.

Guess what! We are defensively playing with 3at the back whilst the whole fan base is crying out for the likes of Martial and Rashford to play upfront with Lukaku
2 strikers upfront, 3 defenders at the back with a false CB - did you expect that haram? Doubt it haram even though you are an undying fan of Jose *you could not pin point the things he needed to do to improve.

Feels so good to pinpoint Jose's tactics not working & then highlight the things that will get it right!

Whether it comes under him I don't know - now wait for the false 9 to come up with the inverted forwards & we will have this conversation again.

People said in 2015 that 352 would return post LVG under the next management & guess what - that is happening whilst Jose has hardly used 352 ever before in his career. Also same people said that England will be doing better playing 352 too.

Some people are just better understanding of football buddy. We can see how things come to fruition. :p

I think we are a long way of from saying 3-5-2 with a False CB is going to be a success. I agree it seems the best method of getting the best out of our squad.

Pogba - a giant but sometimes switches off on D
Matic - great all-round CM but not brilliant as a stopper in fron th of the defence
Sanchez & Mata - inverted wingers
Rashers & Martial - strikers that need to play off a big man
Lukaku - a monster who can provide flicks to a fast forward
Felly - another giant but limited on the deck
All of our CB's - good but not great need extra protection
Shaw & Dalot (ok the latter unproven) - two speed merchants who need licence to get forward

I hope the jigsaw puzzle is finally coming in to place - let's hope we don't fall on our arses the next big game

I have said we should try 3 at the back before, most people have, even Jose used it last year. Using Fellaini in that role is not something anyone here thought of, infact a lot wanted him out the club. Keep patting yourself on the back though, it’s honestly cringeworthy.

3 at the back is different to a false CB - but sure. We have been saying it from the moment he signed the contract that 4231 was a waste of time.

Martial needs to be our False 9 - he has the best first touch & ability to bring others in to play. He also likes to drop deep to receive the ball naturally & wants to take his CB on. His defensive game is the weakest - so he can also stay up the highest when we lose the ball to bring the other players like Rashford & Lukaku in to the game by playing the ball in to the channels. That way martial won't be letting people by him so easily on the left channel & instead we have pure pace & power by two strikers who themselves admit want to receive the ball and make run in behind the defence. Whilst they also have the most high defensive work ethic.

Rashford & Lukaku will demolish teams playing on the sides of Martial. Right and left feet playing just wide off the centre.

Lingard to come on as a more direct option.

Yes lets wipe away two dozen or so respectable performances because his leg went near a guy throwing himself on the ground in the box once.

No it isn't. Playing three at the back doesn't improve the tempo of our passing, or helps us press more. It's confirmation bias.

It should be: Jose > RedCafe Einsteins

However, when Fellaini has one bad game: RedCafe Einsteins > Jose
I don't undertand this Jose and Fellaini wankfest.
Fellaini is everything wrong with this club.
He's not good enough for the level we are aspiring to.

Absolute nonsense. If we could instill his mentality into some of our most talented players we'd be better for it.

He's a useful squad player, with unique attributes which give him value in attack and defense even if his style of play isn't the most aesthetically pleasing. He gives 100% every time he's on the pitch. If that was what was wrong with the club we'd be walking the league.

Funny because we wouldn't have even beaten Watford without him.

God this is such a tired trope.
Jaysus, that was tongue in cheek.

Young Boys 0:3 Man Utd
Thought he was very good once he came on. His interceptions have been on point recently.

I know right?

I mean, all he's useful for is sticking in the box and hoofing long balls at.

I remember seeing Fellaini for CDM at his beligium club & I thought he was a great player that day - especially when he has Cain rows.

I never thought he'd be a good CB though - makes sense though.

Just need a better ball player next to him. Would have loved to see Smalling Fellaini Blind together - PL winning defense imo.

Hopefully we can go for a youngster like de ligt on the left.

Fellaini isn’t the problem in this club. Lukaku is. Fellaini is actually a good weapon

He had a good cameo today. I hope (and expect) that he will start on Saturday. Has been playing very well so far this season.

He's the best tackler in the squad and is excellent at breaking up play. Matic isn't half as strong in the tackle.
Not long back, he was slow and clumsy in his tackling. How did he suddenly become so good at it? Really happy with his new role in the team.

I have never rated Fellaini as a DM. He was always a yellow card waiting to happen. I thought that the only good position for him as an attacking midfielder who could play with back to goal (best chest control I have ever seen), and a great player in the air. But the last few games have opened my eyes and made me start to change my tune about him. I always thought that if a player was going to drop into the DM position, and often drop in between our two centre halves when defending, it would be Matic. But Fellaini has been amazing the last few games and I hope he keeps this up...

Fellaini has been very impressive recently. With Matic out, would be nice to see a midfield 3 of Him, Pogba & Periera.

He does well in a mid 3. When he is slotted in mid 2 with needing more ground to cover that's where he always gave me jitters. Even last season he was very good before his injury.

A great squad option. People want stars all over the pitch. He was never to blame for the teams way of playing. We saw even yesterday, first half we were playing long balls all the time. He gives us so much. For me he was always going to be a cult type player. Some will love him and some will hate him. I think he's a good option and if the players round him perform, we can play good stuff with him in the team.

At the moment he is comfortably ahead of Fred, and should start every game. Midfield 3 of Matic, Fred, Pogba has never looked balanced all season, while one with Fellaini always does.

Tbf that midfield played 130 mins together.
