Bad side of it and this is not his fault, its how players abuse Fellaini presence during a game, they see him as easy and lazy way option, just hoof it and you are done. Why doing all pass and move nonsense, or break your brain to pick a pass, go through ball, just hoof it and its heaven. During this season i noticed that they get so used to do that during the game, that they dont stop with it even when Fellaini get subbed off.

Great to hear he might stay all the passion and desire you want from a United player .

I think he would be even better next season in terms of contribution when we hopefully sort out the fullback situation and there are better balls being played into the box on a more regular basis.

That's exactly why I want him out, our players just stop thinking and begin launching long balls towards him at every opp, so frustrating. He's useful and gives it all but I simply want to see new midfielder coming in to improve our passing game which is dire and should be our priority.

I really hope that he stays on. I doubt that we will produce fast free flowing attacking football next season that will unlock tight defences and then Fellaini is a very useful option to have, rather than substitute Sanchez and Lingard for Mata and Rashford.

At best should be offered one year contract (in case Jose leaves after next season) if he doesn't fancy that no one will cry over his departure.

Fellaini has a warrior spirit which is why Jose loves him so much. We have some squad players graced with incredible ability who only perform to their maximum once in a while and they will eventually be shown the door but with Fellaini despite not having some of the God-given talents of others will always be up for a fight in every match and you need players like that. He's the new Chicharito - start him in the first XI and sometimes he's a bit MEH but bring him on with 30 mins to go and he'll nick you a goal

Call me a snob, but this is not really a method of scoring a top team should be looking to, in the long term anyway, I personally hope he goes, and we rely on good old fashioned top class skillful play to get our results.
Yeah no top team has ever crossed the ball in and scored a header. You're right.

There's more ways to score a goal you know.

I've always said he's a bloody good sub the problem is when the sub starts games and glorious injury time winner aside I hoped he'd go in the summer

Jose thinks he'll stay according to BBC:

On whether matchwinner Marouane Fellaini will stay at the club: "I think so. I think a player that grabs the crest after scoring is telling clearly that he wants to stay. I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay, I think he will stay, it is nearly there."

He's definitely a good squad-level option, despite what the detractors say.
:nervous:

Exactly People who don't like him will never give him credit. He just scored another late winner, that no one else we have would have scored.

As long as he's not that frequent starter, i'd be more than comfy him stayin.

Any idea when his last one was?

This for me is the biggest problem. The presence of Fellaini in the team sends out a certain message and that message is panic. We lose all semblance of an attacking plan and we panic when he's on the pitch. It's not his fault but too many players are happy to just hoof the ball when we could've used it better to prepare another attack. This really hurts us because we have to sacrifice a lot of things when Fellaini is there. We have to sacrifice midfield control amongst other things yet the attacking play really suffers when he's on the pitch because players are panicking. And secondly a lot of people say that he can stay as a plan B etc. I totally disagree. If your plan A is good enough you shouldn't need a plan B. Infact if we need a plan B for crosses and long balls I'd rather buy a striker like Dzeko/Llorente etc who can provide other qualities asides from their aerial qualities instead of keeping someone as limited as Fellaini is.

Man scores the winner for us and 90% of the posts are belittling and slamming the player and wishing he leaves.

Ungrateful and petty bunch.

Let me correct you, he is the kind of player that every team hates to play against, when we were winning , he would be useful to defend their desperate long ball, when we needed a goal and can't breakthrough stubborn defense , throw him in to wreak havoc there, if you are opposition manager, you would absolutely hate Fellaini when you saw him entering the pitch since he disturb all your previous tactic. As long as his playing time is limited and only use him as squad option , I am more than happy to keep him here. Who cares whether rival fans call us long ball United if we ended up with 3 points ?

Does this mean we are going to sign only one CM?
Mou said we need to replace Fellaini and Carrick and now it seems like Fellaini is going to stay, so are we just going to buy one CM?

People dying to get rid of him know that if he leaves, we have to fork out for another player which uses up our budget which could be used in areas of the pitch which need more investment? He is a good option, no one said he would play every week.

This.

When Fellaini's advocates defend him all you hear is 'he's effective', 'he has his uses' or 'he makes the best of himself'.

All of those are euphemisms for saying that he's a limited footballer. And we need more than that.

He embodies the mediocrity we've wallowed in since Fergie left and the style of play which suits his strengths is beneath a top club.

he clearly is a limited footballer and shouldn't be starting for a team with our budget/aspirations

he does something that none of our other midfielders do and his attitude is so good in that he seems to be happy with that role from the bench

is that 20 minute cameo worth a hundred and whatever grand a week?

Why are people getting butt hurt over him? He's proven again and again that He can help us to win games, He's an odd type of player and it keeps the opponents guessing. Yes, He isn't world class, yes, We could have a better midfielder but did He burn your house down or something? the hatred is something else, it's like even his existence in the club is loathed by some people even if He's not a first choice. It's not like you're the ones who pay his wages either. Weird mentality. If the club and Jose are happy to keep him, I'll be fine with it.

Who cares about the money? That’s for others at the club to think about. Clearly they have better knowledge about finances. And he only starts if there are injuries mostly

A great ball defender, a force to CREATE goals against "smaller" teams and fight inside the shirt.. How could you not like a player like him?

Clearly Mourinho has the better knowledge about how to win trophies.
He also has the better knowledge about getting 80+ points in a season.
He wants Fellaini to stay, he even said the final 20 minutes were the best of the game.
So a lot of people want Mourinho to leave. Weird, especially when reading the Mourinho thread.

That’s really depressing that he might be re-signing. It seemed certain he was going to leave and I can only imagine he’s staying if he’s been assured he will get a good number of starts next season plus his £150k or so wage demands. Nice guy though he is, Fellaini should be nowhere near our team or bench.

it wasn't just against smaller teams, it's for every team , ask Zidane what he was thinking when he saw Fellaini came in and start causing chaos inside their box during super cup game.
Fellaini is great option to have as long as he doesn't start.

Fair enough if you think that mate. Some rejoinders though.

1. Do you think criticising someone is only justified if they burn your house down?
2. It's not hatred, it's objective criticism. The critics have nothing against Fellaini personally.
3. He's not a first choice, true, but he's our default option whenever we're chasing a game, so his importance in the squad far exceeds his ability.
4. If you buy match tickets, shirts and other merchandise, or satellite TV subscriptions then yes, you're paying his wages.
5. If you want to back everything the club and manager do, then up to you. I'd say that sort of attitude has been a major factor in our recent decline though.

Let him go, as long as he is here Mou will find an excuse to use him. Nothing game yesterday, try and build something for next season, play a bit of football, no lets hump the ball to the back post against an Arsenal reserve team.

That’s no reason to want him out. The players don’t launch Long balls lazily because he is on the pitch. The players do it because the manager wants it and has sent Fellaini on to the pitch to increase the odds of said ball launching.

You act like this is the only way we snatch games. We have been making comebacks the past couple of months without Fellaini. Some of you just moan about everything. He scored a goal and won us the game, still people moan.

Of course he is limited. No one is denying that. But his uses, those limited ones bring results in certain specific ways and it looks like the manager appreciates having such an outlet in certain situations.

He doesn’t start most games so the supposed atrocious Football fans are whining about isn’t his fault.

Also what’s this rubbish about embodying the mediocrity since Fergie’s departure. This is the first season since Fergie left that we are 2nd. And an injury time fight back and turnaround embodies the type of grit and relentless attitude of Fergie’s best teams.

It is if he can win you matches.
