170k for 30 years old limited squad player is disgraceful, we are dumb if we gave him in

So right this is.

Fellaini has done well in patches, but in truth he should never have been signed and does not fit into what we need from a midfield player. He's beyond poor.

Now he is ageing, little use to squad and demanding 170k per week. He's already being paid more than Harry Kane. That's what utd have become, we pay Fellaini more than Kane. Just think about that.

Why we want him to stay is beyond me, shows such a lack of forward planning and vision for the future

if he stays it will be the most desperate United move since we signed the guy

unbelievable really and I hope we've the sense to tell him to do one

I'd give him what he wants. Last season I'd have sold him for a Freddo and a Mars milkshake but he's been solid in recent times and we looked so much better with him in the team. It's not my money. What's 170k p/w for one maybe two more seasons in the grand scheme of things. I think he's earned a payrise.

Its really is simple which is why its strange you can't grasp the concept. Your views on Fellaini as a player are prohibiting you from being rational on this subject. If we keep Fellaini and give him bigger wages for 2 years maximum then other players will be sacrificed to balance the wage bill of incoming players. The likes of Darmian, Blind, Mkhitaryan, Ibra, Carrick, etc wages will be off.

Your argument is simply wrong as well. Given all these "below par" players you say we are rewarding and have on the books I'd ask you what transfer targets have we missed out on due to their wages? I'd love to hear your answer on this. Jose got every player he has wanted and if he didn't it had nothing to due with fellaini's or anyone else's wages. It came down to the target's team or the target itself exorbitant demands. The point being if United and Jose feel Fellaini is worth the money in giving him a new contract it won't effect the transfer budget Jose has in the slightest.

Why would we pay huge amounts to Fellaini to let others go. He's the type of player we need to let go, especially after this season. The longer he's out, the more people seem to hype him up. He's an average squad player, with an unusual "gift", but not the sort of player that improves a team looking for the title,

How do you know for certain who we've missed out on? Jose making some vague comment about being after 4 players and us getting 3?

Why do people get so worked up about a player trying to get the maximum amount of money from a club? That is his right and he should be doing everything he can to get the best contract he can. The executives are big boys and will decide whether it is too much for the club to take on. Never understood why fans get so upset with the money being spent its strange

I don't blame him for attempting to get the very best deal that he can squeeze, but what brings me to despair, is that this club has given the boot to players of the calibre of Beckham, Veron, Stam etc over the years and yet here we are desperately bending over backwards for Fellaini....It truly beggars belief.

And as someone else pointed out, we actually pay Fellaini more than Harry Kane gets...!!!

That is truly astounding, and anyone that cannot see the madness of that really needs to give their head a bloody good wobble...!!

I hope he stays. He's extremely useful either end of the box and he has been mostly very solid for us in the big games. He has a fighter mentality, that most of our squad don't have. One of my favourite moments last year was when he scored I think against Hull and he went to hug Jose. He gets a lot of criticism, but he always gives his 100%.
I don't want him to start the majority of our games, but he is a fantastic option from the bench. I rather we sell Mkhi or Herrera first than Felli.

The players like Beckham, Stam and Veron were sold not because of their pay scale. Two were sold because of issues with the Manager. Vernon was sold as we had Keane and Scholes who were better than him. But in hindsight most of us were wishing that he was not sold as the next season we struggled because Keane had gone and Scholes had trouble with his eyes and we did not have a midfield player of Veron's ability.

Without a doubt.

We conceded too many goals from set pieces in recent weeks, and he could've been very helpful in defending some of those.

Write him off but we should always remember that he was unstoppable in the Euro Finals. It was primarily because of him that Ajax could not play their game. They could not get near to him. Give him credit where it is due. A fully fit Fellaini on form is a terrifying sight for any opposition as Gerrard has also said. He is so difficult to play against.

Me too. He plays with fight and passion. We miss that.

We were much better with him in the Team beside Matic and Pogba. Pogba was further linking up better with Lukaku and scoring goals. That’s what we want.

Playing with passion and fight should not be the only criteria to be a United player however. What he does well is make good interceptions and headed clearances. But also the praise he gets for his attacking threat with his height is simply not justified by the goals or assists he gets.

Fellaini is a bang average player. He isn't and will never be good enough for United. It would be absolutely fine if we had several world class players in the team and he was just a squad player. But the fact he appears to be an integral part of the team is a sorry indication of how far the quality in our squad has fallen.

We have an opportunity for him to move on, for him to get his last big pay cheque elsewhere and we should absolutely take that opportunity.

He is paid too much already and doesn’t deserve a pay rise, if he won’t sign what he has been offered already then let him go.

He has hardly played this season and this is best team has been since he signed, when he is fit he won’t start so letting him go won’t have much impact. Can’t let mediocre players hold the club to ransom.

The day that Fellaini is viewed as an indispensable player worth £150k per week, is the day that you really need to sit down and have a serious think about where you want this club to be.

Yeah he is good at pushing and shoving, the occasional elbow in the face, and he plays with a bit of passion.
Is that really all that's required to be a United player these days..?
He does have a few other attributes, but honestly, these are no superior to a multitude of other players out there.

Worth mentioning again, he is already paid more than Harry Kane...!!!
Absorb that...!!

Maybe we can get Rory Delap out of retirement then we will have finally transformed into the old Stoke.

He is the face of José's team and José would absolutely lose his marbles it he left.

I'm generally supportive of Jose, but he's never going to shut up about it if we don't secure Fellaini.

Yeah face of Jose's team who started only after Pogba was out injured, last season started only 18 league games.

Another 3 years of Fellaini:rolleyes:

Yes, he has done ok for Utd at certain points but how do we progress and develop a style of play to match the European elite when we are so quick to fall back on the hoof it to the chest approach? Remove the crutch and be brave enough to keep playing football.

Sometimes I'm wondering whenever this thread is a collective wind up. "Deserved a pay raise".

Are you sure about that mate?

Would it surprise you if i told you they've never started a game together?

In fact they've played probably only about 60-70 minutes together.

First of all the club isn't desperately bending over backwards for Fellaini. no deal has been finalized yet. This size of the wages he wants per week may or may not be true and of course you always start high in negotiations and work down from there. What on earth has Beckham, Veron, and Stam got to do with players wages?? They weren't sold for that reason so no reason to bring it up.

And of course your point about his and Kanes wages really isn't accurate. Kane makes more than Fellaini from what i can find 100k vs 80k. Plus it's Harry Kanes choice to be on those wages at Tottenham. He could have been on over 200k a week a year ago if he wanted to leave Tottenham. Nonsense post really

And how many goals have we scored during that limited time? 7 after the 3 first games and about 45 mins together. After that Fellaini been injured and pogba injured/suspended and they barelly played together. Actually we lost our 2 first points when fellaini was unavailable.

Fellaini is a VERY important player for us.
I still remember a match, when we were 1-1 at OT, earlier this season.
Jose brings on Martial and Fellaini and that combination allowed us to score 3 goals in 10 minutes (I think it was).
Fellaini just gives our opponents a different type of player to defend against and he is not easy.

I think it's actually 6 but regardless my point is it's way too small a sample size to make any determinations or statements about United being a better team when playing Pogba, Matic and Fellaini together. Considering they have yet to start a match together or complete even a full 90 minutes as a midfield 3.

Playing those 3 in the middle may be our best option but until we see it happen over a few games we won't actually know.

I think he showed great attitude in his 4 and a half years stay at the club and has been very useful at times but he is really having a laugh if he thinks he deserves 170k a week :wenger: Paying stupid amounts to average players like him,Lingard etc. is what is wrong with our squad management. I prefer to pay that money to someone like Goretzka who is actually decent at football.

Was he supposed to be out with injury for 3 months? And what up with Bailly? Pogba took longer than expected as well. Seems that the club is keeping this information to themselves. Good or bad i don't know but it's a bit frustrating.

Bailly is out for a month. Groin injury. Not sure how his ankle injury turned into a groin injury, but there you have it. Sustained while with the national team.

Fellaini is out indefinitely. He re-injured his knee against Brighton when clearing a ball from United's box: a Brighton player smashed into his leg on the follow-through, and Fellaini grimaced in pain. The "uh-oh" moment for me was when Mourinho said the doctors don't know what's wrong with his knee. O.O That seems unfathomable with today's medical knowledge, but here we are. Mourinho just said he's back for Derby County. It's a miracle!

Pogba's injury turned out to be worse than expected because it was a re-aggravation of an injury he sustained in a personal training session -- which he didn't tell United about.

But at least Phil Jones is healthy. :)

We need him to release pogba like wedid with herrera against everton. We did it in the begining of the season to devestating effect, also his goals are always welcome. I think he will end up leaving at end of the season though.

Man Utd 2:0 Derby
Man Utd vs Derby

80 minutes of Rashford : 0-0
10 minutes of Fellaini : 2-0

Do the maths and pay him so that he stays!

He came in & we scored 2. Give him 170k contract

His ability to chest any long ball and bring it to the ground is good to watch. It's his only trick but he masters it perfectly.

He'll be a valuable option for the rest of the season. I can't see him extending his contract and he doesn't deserve the figures he's asking for but let's benefit from him as long as he's here.

I can certainly understand why many don’t love Fellaini, but I hope he stays. He’s clearly a valuable player to have in the squad. His attributes, while arguably few in number, distinguish him from everyone else in the team. I’m not suggesting that he’s a better player than others, but he offers things that they don’t. I respect the intestinal fortitude he’s shown during his time at the club, and he’s proven to be a valuable asset (and occasional match winner).

Moreover, if he leaves in the summer, we get nothing for him. That leaves another hole in the midfield that needs to be filled. We’ve already seen that the club is willing to spend, but that there is a budget (despite Woodward’s past claims to the contrary, the Glazers are obviously only willing to go so far). We’re already going to have to replace Carrick this summer. I don’t see the sense in playing hardball with Fellaini. Jose clearly wants him to stay. If they let him walk, I hope the club is willing to add another 40M - 50M to the summer budget to secure a replacement.

New contract on how many years? He is 30. 170k for a reserve? Let him go, Fellaini is not the way forward.
