Some of you need to evaluate why you get so worked up over absolutely nothing.

He was fine today as good or bad as the rest but after every game you need to come in here and work youselves up.

We dont have other options he's a squad player doing what he's told to do when he comes into the team. Your whining doesn't change anything.

Not denying it in the slightest, merely pointing out that the 'nothing but sideways passes' simply isn't true for Fellaini.

That wasn't what I said, I said everytime he tries anything but a sideways pass to a wide open player it almost always fails, his use of the ball is atrocious for a CM at United, that stat of 5 more successful forward passes is also quite a lot for Herrera but the main thing with these stats is the concept of a forward pass, Fellaini's standard ball from the right to the central mid is going to be deemed forward even if it's only a few inches.

Frustrated watching fellaini today. Not once did he beat 3-4 players and steam into the box. I'm starting to wonder when he is going to be the creative genius he was billed as when he arrived. I wish mourinho would listen to me and sell him

Its quite ridiculous and just evidence of dogma or inability to he flexible in opinion.

Fellaini has delivered at least as much value as Pogba this season yet is vilified whilst the dabber gets mollycuddled with empathy.

It will certainly change nothing until the end of this season. He is contributing as much as most players (and so he, like most others, is not doing great to say the least). Let us figure out the remainder of this season and then think what do with him (and few others).

It's exactly the same thing for Ander really, can provide you with maps if you wish.

No need, I wasn't waxing lyrical about Ander's passing either, as I said he's better at winning the ball than he is on it, but he does have quality passes in his bag, Fellaini doesn't and he's far inferior off the ball as well, we don't need a player that offers so little.

I don't see any clear advantage of Herrera over Fellaini today. Plus, almost all of Herrera's passes to the Sunderland box were not completed (he put only TWO passes into the box).

EDIT: you may want to look at Herrera's passes in the final third:

I just thought I would poke my head back in here and say well deserved, and that he has shown the right sort of mentality to be a captain time and time again.

Carry on.

irrelevant since he is the size he is lol.

Shrink de gea to 5 foot, would he play in the championship?
Ridiculous, ain't it?

Good advice. Hardly a fan of Fellaini myself, but it's clear that Jose sees value in him and he's willing to carry out his instructions. I'd prefer if he was sold this summer and replaced with some real quality, but the OTT reactions in here grow tiresome. From both sides, I might add.

Both are wrong in all likelihood.

Fellaini doesn't deserve to be vilified for not being the footballer he cannot be. He's limited, does his best and that's fine. People are entitled to question why a limited player is starting games though.

Pogba doesn't deserve to be given more leeway either. When he's shite, it's tough to read the denial on here. That said, I said he was excellent in the first half and got torn to shreds so maybe the tide is turning.

Some players flatter to deceive, I think Fellaini often does the opposite due to how lanky and ungainly he looks with the ball.

This is one of the most baffling things I've ever seen argued on here.

Nah. Come on now. Fellaini is the footballing equivalent of tertiary syphilis.

I've said nothing about Herrera being great on the ball and wasn't impressed with him today, so none of this is relevant.

I think sometimes it's hard for people not to judge players' performance relative to their talent.

Fellaini has had let's say an 8/10 season for his skill level, which we'll call like a 6.5/10 performance for a Prem midfielder, whereas Pogba has maybe had like a 7/10 season for his skill level, but that's probably still like an 8.5/10 season for a Prem midfielder.

I must of been watching a different game to those saying he had an alright game, if that's what you expect from a Man United player then these last 3 seasons have really hit you hard, he was garbage today, one of the most infuriating player's I've ever seen wear our top and I can't wait until he moves on, it's not personal as I hope he gets a good transfer and does wel but he should never of been a United player and to see TFM or Carrick on the bench in place of him is criminal.

Serious question, and I'll doubt you'll respond, but why do you hate Pogba? Did he run over your dog or something? It's just weird to see a fan of a club show so much disdain for one of their own players.
Or are you not a united fan?

He tries hard and puts himself about but he's just not very good. He doesn't have the skill or confidence to make a quick turn on the ball. I'd be really disappointed to see him here next season.

He never has been and never will be United quality, let alone captain material

I dont hate Pogba at all. I just expect far better from a player who cost £90m.

Some say ignore his transfer fee: he has not been anymore influential than Herrera, Fellaini, Mhkitariyan or Martial .... all have been rightfully criticised. But Pogba gets leeway and sympathy. Im not sure why he deserves special treatment. Compare him to Delli Ali, who is 2 years younger.

But I dont agree ignoring his transfer fee, he should deliver like a £90m player. As our world class 'galactico' I expect to win us matches. His inability to do so is a major contributor as to why we are 6th.

I fear he is a dud. If he is, I wont celebrate, if he isn't I'll be delighted and celebrate as much as anyone else.

BTW: I've been a United fan for 35 years and I own cats.

Fair enough, I see where you're coming from and your concerns are valid. As a staunch defender of Pogba, I'd be lying if I said he'd lived up to expectations.
That said, do you not think it would be wise to show a bit more patience with him?
We all know his ability and he wouldn't be the first player to take a season or so to show their potential, regardless of age and potential.
It's pointless to compare him with Dele Alli because players develop at different rates. Look at Rooney and Ronaldo for example. Many of us thought Rooney would leave Ronnie in his wake but looking back at their careers, any comparison between them now looks ridiculous.

Also, You say that Pogba gets leeway and sympathy, that's flat out wrong and tells me that you're seeing what you want to see. Pogba's thread gets flooded with posters criticising him game after game; surely you see that as you're one of the main contributors.

And with regards to his influence this season, if you honestly believe that Fellaini or Martial have been as influential as him, that confirms your bias to me and I expect you'd be in a tiny minority with that opinion.

Surely he'll be moved on this summer. The only way I can see him staying is if we can't get the midfielders we want, seeing as we are pretty low on numbers in the middle.

He tries his best but just isn't good enough and it's pretty baffling he's managed to survive into his 4th season here. I know we take the piss out of Liverpool for their expensive donkey, but at least they had the sense to realise their mistake.

Anyone reckon he'll stay?

Liverpool's donkeys haven't done half the job he has.

Think it will be as you say, if we get our targets in, Jose will tell him that his playtime will be severly reduced and he can leave if he wishes. He'll move on then I believe. If we end up with just one or no new midfielders though, he's definitely staying.

Jose has backed him in the dressing room, on the pitch and with the armband. "Surely he'll be moved on this summer" is the next logical conclusion from all of that?............

Lets wait and see, I'm not saying he won't be moved on (though I won't be surprised if he is and won't be surprised if he isn't) but surely people just yelling at the top of their lungs that we have to get rid of him non-stop is a rudderless exercise at this point. He's taken everything in stride and come out on top of it all.

Who from Liverpool are you talking about?... There is no comparison at all I can think of. Remember we bought and sold Di Maria for a 60m fee and 10m loss in the space of a full season doesn't something like that kind of de-scope that issue completely? Given his extensive service over three seasons, with silveware?

A genuinely strange angle really.

Thats now 3 consecutive managers of ours who seem to value him very highly as an invaluable member of our team.

But I guess armchair geniuses here know better than the paid professionals obviously.

You don't honestly believe Jose sees him as a first team player do you? As soon as we sign the players he does actually want I'm willing to bet he'll be out the door. He's an excellent man manager and he's boosted his confidence considerably, but even a Fellaini playing with confidence still isn't good enough.

I was talking about Andy Carroll. £35m battering ram who they offloaded for a 50% hit because they realised he wasn't up to it.

Just because I'm not a manager doesn't mean I don't have eyes. Do you rate him yourself?

So very true. And nothing your saying is groundbreaking or hard to see! You just have to be sensible and calm the feck down to see he was fine and has been fine in many a game. And not just against bottom clubs. He is a different dynamic to the typical footballer, awkward and ungainly in his movement went and I wonder if that just doesn't compute with some.

Its quite ridiculous and just evidence of dogma or inability to he flexible in opinion.

If there's anything I've learned over the last few years it's that many people will not change their beliefs despite any amount of evidence (e.g. Global warming - since I've just turned off the radio after listening to more about its naysayers haha)

I just thought I would poke my head back in here and say well deserved, and that he has shown the right sort of mentality to be a captain time and time again.

Mentality. That's key. And it's a message to the rest of the team which I don't see recognized amongst all the criticism. "Pogba can be a United captain one day". Remember that from Jose? Well, Fellaini has just gone and led the side. That's got to motivate Paul. He has got to take note of Fellainis attitude. Here's one ex that stood out to me:

Pogba gives away a penalty to Liverpool. Fellaini gives away a penalty to Everton.

Both were trusted by the manager afterwards. But which of those players would you say responded to that disappointment better? I don't recall much from one. But Fellaini I remember coming right back the next match playing with heart to make amends and scoring a goal.

Just because I'm not a manager doesn't mean I don't have eyes. Do you rate him yourself?

Oh yes. Maybe your eyes can manage United then.

If Jose didn't feel he was good, he wouldn't play him. Like how he did to guys like Schneiderlin or Memphis

The amount of defensive work he and Herrera do goes largely unnoticed. I rewatched the Sunderland match and each time we lost the ball, Fellaini (and Herrera) sprung into action, trying their best to win the ball back. Pogba on the other hand made very little defensive contribution (but he was good offensively).

He is turning out to be a very good player under Mourinho. I might be in the minority in this one, but I feel that Fellaini can improve further. Think, like all players here, he has also been suffering from the team being in continuous flux and a general mess of philosophies. He has been played all over the place, as a quick fix for much deeper problems. At the moment , he has the managers backing and as Mourinho gradually adds more players and more stability, his role will become more well defined his performances may also improve.

Well if he didn't play Fellaini who would he play? Like I said we're not blessed with options. He inherited a squad from someone else, just because he's given him a few games doesn't mean he rates him.

This is the point I keep leaning on, in hopes that Jose knows he must bring in better options which will see Fellaini either relegated to a very minor role or shipped the hell out.

These are managers who have taken us to 7th, 4th, 5th, and currently 5th. Perhaps people are on to something when they suggest we need to improve on "invaluable" members of the team such as Fellaini.

Herrera and Pogba in a 2 especially in home games. I know Jose regularly reads the wisdom spouted on this website - go on play 442 - it can't be any worse than the crap we have witnessed at OT this year.

That would be my preferred pairing also, but in away games where we need a midfield 3, or like recently when we've had Pogba injured and Herrera suspended, he's got little option. It seems silly to suggest this means Jose really likes him.
