And many give berbatov a hard time over his price tag at the time. I would call fellaini the clubs worst ever signing
Not even in the top 20. Infact I'd say he was a good buy for the club considering without him, we would be using the woeful duo of Carrick and Cleverley every game. Fellaini adds another option in midfield and he's a hard player to get past for the opposition. People underrate his defensive contribution. He's got great interceptions and he never gives less than 100%. He's always in the right place for a header... it's just too bad our wingers can't cross their damn legs.

Please stop.

Hard player to get past? Really?

It's even worse when he's on it. He's lazy and rarely tracks runners.
Who does? We were all shite last season. Why single him out? I've seen him do some good things in a Utd shirt but they're swept under the rug and people just like to remember the petty stuff like him dribbling the ball out of play against Bayern. That stuff is irrelevant.

Get behind the players. The fact that some people are even suggesting to sell him before he has the chance to impress Van Gaal tells me all I need to know. United fans don't want Fellaini to succeed. Probably cause of the multiple batterings he gave us in an Everton shirt.

Heh. Some of 'em are even worried he might impress Van Gaal on the pre-season tour. Because that would be terrible news, wouldn't it?

Anyway, he's apparantly not on Van Gaal's shortlist of players ripe for the knife. Apparently. If such a list exists, etc.

Done nothing to show he is or will be a good buy so far, few half decent performances but considering the money we paid I don't think he will ever be a good buy because we paid twice what he was worth. I know our wingers aren't great but he had quite a few chances laid on for him last season and he fluffed them all so it wasn't just the service. He is poor defensively, doesn't have great positioning, doesn't read the game well and his tackling is very hit and miss. His physical presence is useful at times but he can be turned too easily and I would only use him as a dm away to west ham or any side that plays lots of long balls as I think he would be a liability otherwise.

Would like him to prove me wrong but based on what I saw at Everton I don't think you will ever get much out of him unless he plays in an advanced role and you use his aerials ability a lot, in any other role he is just being shoe horned into the team.

I wouldn't say we paid double what he's worth. He just came off a cracking season with Everton in 12/13 and he was in the Team of the Season scoring 13 goals. I would have said he was worth 25 million at that point... We paid 27, people act like he's only worth 7 million or something. Which I find ridiculous by the way.

Has Kagawa been good for us? Nope. But people still like him (including myself).

Well his release clause was 23.5 and no-one else was interested in paying that much for him so I don't think he was worth that let alone anymore than that and when you compare it to the fees that other players went for in the same position in the same window he was ridiculously over priced. Somewhere around 15m was his real value, he had a good season but he did that by playing in a particular role and with a certain style of football, if we are not going to use him the same way then he isnt even worth 15m because he is very limited in other roles. He was just the wrong player to buy, rather than a bad player and I don't see him ever being of any real value unless we adapt to suit him because I just don't think he is capable of changing his game.

If he was worth 25m then someone would have tried to trigger his clause when it was £23m. The fact that no one did suggests no one thought he was worth that. Worth £15 or so? Yeah sure, but not much more over that imo, £20m at a push, regardless of what Everton paid to get him.

It is at the point now where some fans just don't want him to succeed. It would be interesting if he stays and plays really well for the first month or two.

I didn't want him at the club and don't rate him one bit. But the stick he gets from United fans is insane, I'll never understand abusing our players like this, I don't get it with Young either.

It's true that I don't want him to succeed.

Not because I don't like the lad, but because I never want to see United playing the type of football that is required for him to succeed.

There is zero possibility of him adapting to the style of football a top club is expected to play.

I don't think he's United quality, but it's not his fault Moyes came knocking. He wasn't going to pass down the opportunity to play for United was he?

I hope we sell him, but if he stays I'll support him and hope he suddenly turns into a beast.

His worth to a team is based on such a specific play style and set of circumstances that to the right team he could be worth a fortune, but to the vast majority of clubs (United included) he is worth nothing.

Are you high?

He gives us an extra option in the middle. Imagine having to only choose from Carrick, Cleverley, Fletcher and Anderson? Fellaini is better than all of them.

How the feck did you get promoted to be a full member spouting such nonsense?

Has nothing to do with it. He's just shit.

Carrick was woeful last season and is well past it... Fletcher is also past it and Anderson & Cleverley have never ever been as good for us as Fellaini was for Everton and Belgium. You can't argue with the statistics.

How many assists has "Backwards" Carrick and "Sidewards" Cleverley got last season? Atleast Fellaini gifted Wilson his two goals.

Carrick has a bad season - Passed it, shite
Fellaini has a bad season - He's good player, everyone was shite, don't single him out

I think it's a grudge thing for many fans. I haven't seen any player get as much undeserved stick as this guy. Nani come close though.

Undeserved? He doesn't know where to stand on the pitch!

Did goldenplash get banned ?? Haven't seen him post, and jason is making the same arguments, and in a similar manner.

I'm not singling anyone out. But if you're gonna act like Fellaini is the worst player to ever out on a red shirt then you're sadly mistaken. Carrick was just as bad last season and he wasn't riddled with injuries and shoved into the team with no pre season like Fellaini. Fellaini was also played out of position. He's not a CDM, he's a CM. There's a difference.

So many of our players last year were shite. But the usual suspects get the blame... Fellaini, Nani, Cleverley... It's a reputation thing. If enough people say it, it catches on and becomes a "thing". No one seems to mention how bad Carrick, Evra and Fletcher were last season. Or what about all those chances Welbeck fluffed up?

Looking at those list of midfielder, it almost made me blind. To the Fellaini point, he is 'probably' a better attacking midfielder than those players mentioned, but as a central midfielder he is not better than all of them. To sum things up in perspective, he is an average footballer that would give any side a good tactically advantage due to his aerial prescence and maybe his aggression.

I think he's currently better than Fletcher, Anderson, and Cleverley. Carrick is a strange one. He had a bad season but he is the more talented player. There isn't really a lot to be impressed with though to be honest. From the entire CM I mean.

I saw him play in some of the World Cup games, and I must say, wow.....he's still pretty shit.

Jason93 - Fellaini definitely is one of the worst players to ever wear a MUFC jersey... almost with Bellion, Djemba Djemba and Taibi.

For you to say otherwise must mean that you just aren't a very good judge of footballers and it lessens the impact of both your subsequent and future comments.
You are highly suspect to me.

I'm not sure where the optimism of some posters is coming from. There may have been mitigating factors last season but he never looked a United player in waiting at Everton and he was mediocre at the World Cup. Having just watched the likes of Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Vidal and Mascherano over the last few weeks, it's very hard to see what Fellaini has to offer us in midfield as we try to climb back to the top.

Better than Fletcher? Perhaps, but then Fletcher isn't really 100%, tbf.
Better than Anderson? Since he is predominantly injured, not that difficult. If he could only capture some of his form back, he'd shit on Fellatio, although that seems unlikely to happen.
Better than Cleverley? No, not having it, certainly earlier in the season, I though Cleverley was offering an awful lot more than Fellatio. They ended up pretty much as bad as each other, although Fellatio kept getting games & Cleverley didn't.
Certainly not better than Carrick, Fellatio spent most of last season getting in his way & stopping him form playing his natural game.

I agree with this typically, it's not because of the batterings he gave us though, it's because he's a symbol of Moyes and people wrote him off early and don't wanna change their minds. He's a regular international in a top team. Hopefully LVG finds good use for him in the coming months and people are forced to change their stance
