Marouane Fellaini | 2013/14 Performances

I was desperately hoping he'dprove his doubters wrong with some impressive performances in the World Cup. Turns out he did the exact opposite. Feels wrong to write any big money signing off so early in his United career but he's not really helping himself with the performances he's put in, for club and now for country.

I knew he was a really poor tackler during his time at Everton but after watching him this season, it's truly amazing how many fouls this guy is capable of.

In one match (I forget which one) he was penalised for fouls that weren't even there. I'm not saying he doesn't foul often, because he does, but the opposition players exaggerate a lot of contact and referees seem to not like him very much.

42 fouls in the PL, where about half of them are probably some bullshit calls. There're 36 players that have more fouls than him this season.

I can think of several times he was lucky not to be sent off this season, so don't go saying he's the victim here, if you use your elbows that much you're going to get caught sometimes.

Yea, and sometimes there was absolutely no foul from him yet it was given. It goes both ways, shocking.

It's always been the way in the Prem, big donkey target men like Niall Quinn, Kevin Davies, Andy Carroll and Crouch are always top of the charts for fouls conceded and fouls won. Fellaini tries to use his size to push players around while the ball is in the air.

Yup, and the players over-react or referees are over-sensitive.

Errr... Wut ?

Most of those 36 played way more matches than him. The "dirtiest" player in terms of highest aggregate fouls committed was Tiote with 66 in 31 starts at an average of 2.13 per start. Second runner up Jedinak played all 38 games and committed 60 at an average of 1.58 per start..

In comparison Fellaini just didn't get enough game time to wreck havok... Even then he committed 42 in 14 starts for United and 3 for Everton at an average of 2.47 per start.

And just the way half of them were "bullshit calls" for Marouanne conversely half of them of them were "bullshit calls" for the others as well. It's not just a one way street where only Marouanne is being unfairly penalized...

Never claimed he was, have I ?

Thanks for the ratio by the way, it's more clear obviously.

The game where he got sent off in the Champions League did it for me. He was so late so often, I thought he'd been mailed to the tackles. I knew he'd get sent off and I was praying that Moyes would sub him before the inevitable happened. Alas Moyes didn't sub him, but Moyes didn't do a lot right during his whole stint to be fair.

Err.. But your very defending his disciplinary record weren't you and providing excuses for his flailing appendages that seem to have a mind of their own acting independently from the rest of his body ?

Err...no, I wasn't providing excuses, I was providing stats and claimed that many fouls against him weren't really fouls but some idiotic calls due to his size. There was no talk of elbows.

Not so much to do with the actual amount, it's more to do with him either being favourite or in a better position and still giving away the foul. He is the only player I have ever seen (park football included) choose to make a tackle when he had the ball and yes, he ended up fouling the opponent.

Can use stats to compare all day but at the end of the day, Fellaini is a fouling machine, it's the only certainty he brings to the pitch unfortunately.

Ok. So you agree that he's a dirty/ indisciplined foul generator ?

Dirty? No. Indisciplined? Probably.

So basically he's got shit sense of positioning ? Yea, I agree with that.

I dont think there is anyone of sound mind now that can claim he is anything other than a complete liability.

Moyes needs sticking in a room and forced to listen to Jonathan Pearce trying to read a spanish telephone directory for the rest of eternity for lumbering us with this worthless sack of shit.

Why no for dirty ? He elbowed Zabaleta in the gob and then (inconclusive evidence mind but still the video shows it) decided to add insult to injury by spitting on the City player while he was decked.. He also pulverized Messi's legs when he couldn't cleanly regain possession of the ball vs Argentina.. How are those not the actions of a dirty player ? Does he have to maim someone on the pitch to be classified dirty ?

I haven't seen the spit to be fair, seen the elbow and I was more than happy about it. Zabaleta is a huge cnut himself and I don't mind if one of our players throw a hit or two to their opponents ( RVP and Rooney do it all the time, I don't mind either of them and wouldn't call them dirty ).

He pulverized Messi ? Well holy shit, has to be the first player ever that's not keeping up with Messi's pace and ends up fouling him.

So you're more than happy he's elbowing people in the face ? Ok.. That's nice to hear..

No, I was happy when he elbowed Zabaleta in his face. Were you complaining when Zabaleta went around in any of the matches against us kicking our players and fouling them ?

Zabaleta's no saint himself, you either show him where his place is at some point or he won't stop and you'll have Riether on Januzaj volume 2.

Probably the funniest thing I have ever read on the Caf

I am absolutely livid if any player (irrespective of the team) indulges in violent/ unsporting conduct on the pitch. It's not condonable whether it's a United player (especially if it's a United player - expect much better of them, they have to play in the spirit of the game not seek vindication) or club XYZ for that matter.

Fellaini decking Zabaleta isn't pardonable just because the latter is a little shit himself. One mistimed tackle/ act of indiscretion could end a player's career.

You must be really angry watching football then because such behaviour, some kicks, slaps, elbows and challenges that are unnecessary happen all the time. And no, you don't expect 'much better from them' just because they are United, if you play like a bunch of pussies then you'll be kicked out of the park, lose the game and nobody will give a shit if you're a moral 'fair play' winner.

Go see how RM played in the CL, how Germany and Argentina played yesterday, you can't keep the game clean all the time if your opponent doesn't want to keep it clean. And yes, if one player is being a dickwad the whole game to our players it's pardonable ( and funnily enough it would've been pardoned if it was somebody other than Fellaini that has done it ) if somebody retaliates.

Wov. Such titness. Ok...

Such dots, many arguments, wow.

Sorry for not hopping on the bandwagon giving Fellaini shit 24/7. Maybe next season.

Better late than never or so they say. ;)

We need to offload him now, before he has a chance to impress Louis in pre season. We play far better football without him.

If he's impressing in preseason then what's the problem?!

If he's not then I'm sure he will be moved on like any others underperforming

I was desperately hoping he'dprove his doubters wrong with some impressive performances in the World Cup. Turns out he did the exact opposite. I don't, as a principle. I don't mind giving him a second season to prove himself. The likes of Anderson and Cleverley on the other hand...

We don't play better football without him at all. We played shit in all of our games last season besides maybe 3 or 4.

People just love making things up now....

Those players probably played twice as many games mind you. There's no debating that he's one of the dirtiest, clumsiest players in the league.

I wouldn't call him dirty. He's not flying recklessly into tackles, more clumsy. Peter Crouch used to make loads and loads of fouls, he's not exactly dirty just clumsy and often decisions go against big men because of their size.

Fair enough but the reason he's so disliked is we spent 30 million on somebody who will never be close to a starting 11 quality player. In midfield, he just doesn't suit a passing game at all. Everyone needs squad players but the vast majority of United fans I'm sure would rather see young midfielders with talent be squad players, or players who have been at United for a while, like Fletcher. He's better on the ball and a more intelligent player, yet many are ready just to get rid of him. Same with Cleverley. You need squad players to give others a break, but we have squad players and most of us like them all more then Fellaini. He's the player version of David Moyes, somebody who just doesn't belong at the club, and it doesn't help him at all that Moyes was the one that brought him here.

And many give berbatov a hard time over his price tag at the time. I would call fellaini the clubs worst ever signing
