Marko Arnautović | United have pulled out

In theory I get the idea of bringing a player that is a good teammate and can happily come off the bench. Bayern and PSG did it with Choupo Moting, to some extent Real Madrid have Mariano in that role. But is Arnautovic that kind of teammate and player?

The state our club is in is so fecking sad. Not only the fact that we obviously did feck all to properly plan this window but also that players like Arnautovic are our only ideas for an emergency signing reeks of sheer incompetence on all levels. Don't think it's ever been that bad. This is really a new low.
Even spurs wouldn’t even let the thought enter their mind to get him as a backup to Kane. Their backup is Richarlison. Levels.

Unless I’ve missed something arnautović has racial abused another player which while awful isn’t the same as that what Adam Johnson did. You would have to be crazy to think it is. Also you do know Ronaldo plays for us, right ?

As for backing the manager, while we’ve got 3 out 4 of his players, the one missing is the most important piece. Pretty clear today that we need De Jong.
Do you not read the news or do you live under a rock? Firstly there was one allegation against Ronaldo. The court has cleared him. Things would be different if he wasn’t cleared. Look at Greenwood. We take these things seriously. In fact every club does.

Secondly regarding FDJ - I repeat again, we have done everything we can. We agreed a fee with Barca. He has wage issues with them which we cannot solve. We agreed to pay them €85m back in July.

On the plus side, we're moving a lot faster than Liverpool did. We're already at the 'signing Mario Balotelli' stage - maybe just 3-4 years until we're decent again now.

How reliable are the sources linking us to him?

It seems unreal we're targeting a 33y old that isn't world class.

I thought we changed :(

It should be patently obvious to anybody that Luckhurst is correct.

I am willing to be slightly more lenient this summer if the talk of us being in the first year of an overhaul of the recruitment team is correct but it is completely unsustainable to have your manager essentially acting as your chief scout as well.

How the hell do we know that this is a case of solely incompetence? I'd say it's more a case of reality finally catching up with us.

My take is, that we at this state of this transfer window simply isn't more attractive to better players than him. ..or we aren't willing to pay for them.

He may just be an affordable alternative with the right set of attributes we are looking. We probably could get a better player for much more money, but the question is whether they are a better fit.

Knew it would end like this. What happened with is Ronaldo very clear tbh. But also we signed him before the court ruling(You had no issues with the club signing him).

But whatever make you feel better, I guess. Tbh I should decide your reply was a joke.

Definitely true. If this happens I’m afraid we ll end up paying close to €12-15m.

Surely this has to be a joke? Imagine looking at that performance today and then thinking that Arnautovic is the one to improve that

Luckhurst is spot on.

Weird tweets as so far we haven’t got our Ten Hag main target and we’ve apparently got a budget of £120 million (We’ve already been priced out of other players).

People are just losing their minds over today game, if Ten Hag wants him then should be it. He is the manager after all.
This idea of manager-led transfers is a large part of the reason why our squad is in the state it is today. The manager should have input on transfers, along with the DOF and scouting department. Full manager control over transfers is lunacy though. No top club is run that way anymore.

That's bs. We sure as hell still have enough pull to lure players here better than Arnautovic. Probably not for the best of the very best but he's a few levels below that It's sheer incompetence at this point. That or we are financially crippled. If that is the case the Glazers need to be hunted out of this club

This is what gets to me. United have a worse squad than the previous season and rivals have strengthened. An 8th place finish is ambitious for this current crop of players. Being outside the top 10 is a real possibility. The problem with ETH is not his managerial ability or anything that's on field, it's his indecision to not go outside those he has worked with previously. I thought it was just opinions that spurred this truth but after fairly reliable Journos have reported the same it's an absolute travesty that yet again a manager is exercising more authority than the DOF.

Tbh West Ham signed an italian striker younger than him and who scored a similar amount of goals. I highly doubt there weren't/aren't better alternatives than Arnautovic

Yes we did sign him before the verdict. That case was going on for years. If he was found guilty we would have kicked him out.

And I thought Cavani was a desperate signing, feck me..
Always thought the Cavani signing was very smart, he had a lot to offer and was a top top player. We also used him well in that first season

If we get Arnautovic the only football I'll be looking forward to is the world cup.

Can't support a racist.

I can’t believe I was upset at the thought of us buying Richarlison earlier in the summer. Please let’s go back in time. I promise things will be different this time.

Would rather just play bloody Maguire upfront than this prick.

Honestly have a feeling they'll probably sign him. Wouldn't be surprised if they overpay too. If we do indeed sign him I won't be able to defend ETH no longer. If those are the types of profiles he's interested in we are doomed under him combined with the jokers who work above him it will be a nightmare combo.

Day 1 of the new season and we're already in crisis mode. Damn it.
This happens all the dam time with this club, we show a complete lack of pro activity in the market and think we can get by for another season with average players and then the new season starts and reality hits hard and the club go in to panic mode with irrational singings.

I would genuinely rather have welbeck back at the club, at least you know he will work his ass off for the club.

To be honest it’s better this way cause we have 2 weeks to get someone else rather than starting with 2-3 wins and thinking it’s all ok and we crumble in September after the window closes.

I wil seriously doubt Erik ten hag if he thinks 33 year old Arnautovic will have value would rather sign memphis depay

I’m not over the moon with this but he’d probably have tucked Rashford’s chance away earlier
