I wouldn't touch the boy. He's regressed big time and for me it looks like he's lacking ambition, isn't hungry anymore, his body speaks for itself. Gotze for the reported money is daylight robbery, at the end of the day Bayern just paid about 10 mil. for him. Dortmund have to take the risk again, for them it's big money. Furthermore Gotze can't keep a low profile, the press will be all over him for the whole time, pressure is going to be sky-fecking-high. If i were him i would have gone to Pool, 'Klopper' is a knowledgeable guy, but not sure they were really into him.

But as a neutral it's good for entertainment, so i'm not the one complaining. :)

But every other United player that's joined Madrid was surplus to requirements here... Beckham, Ruud, Heinze, Chicharito. It was United's decision to let go of those guys. For whatever reason, they were no longer in our plans.

Which they recouped within a few weeks.

Do you think any other elite team would sell their best players to a Champions League rival? Barcelona and Bayern would never dream of it.

Whether Ferguson wanted to keep them or not is irrelevant. Madrid took both Beckham and Ruud for virtually nothing.

23m was a lot back then for Beckham.

You're hardly comparing Dortmund to United, surely? We're not whipping boys. We don't sell our best players to the likes of City and Chelsea.

Not really, given his marketability. Lionheart, model looks Beckham. England captain too.

I just think its rich given the pulling power that Madrid and, more recently, Barcelona have over United.

If Madrid really want a player that we also want, they will sign him 9/10.

United sold their best player and golden ticket in his prime to Madrid. It was the start of the club's gradual decline.

Completely different scenarios. We sold Beckham for 23m. This was around a period where the likes of Zinedine Zidane was only going for 40m. How much do you honestly think Beckham was worth? No more than 25m at that time. We got his prime years.

So what's stopping them from signing him now? Cause he's only gotten better.... Oh wait, he doesn't want to leave us. He wants to play under the best manager in the world.

Who'll buy James? Nobody is gonna pay the money they're asking except us. And we're 100% focused on Pogba. Mourinho's not stupid enough to pay 70m for James so Madrid can buy Pogba.

Comparing Lewandowski to Ronaldo :lol: Lewandowski only stayed so he could leave on a free. Ronaldo stayed for another season as a thank you to Ferguson. Again, he didn't leave for free. You literally can't compare the two.

By that logic, Celtic and Nottingham Forest are a big club. They have history too.

Dortmund are the Liverpool of Germany. Always raving on about their history and how good they are, and yet all their best players leave them for bigger and better things. Laughable.

What do you expect them to do? They're not on Bayern-level with their finances. They're big, but obviously not as big as Bayern, the 2 Spanish giants and the PL clubs. They can't pay the same wages.

If you'd said this about Schalke, I'd (and probably most would) have agreed. Dortmund is at a level above Liverpool in fact last year was at a level above us. Unlike Liverpool, they've had recent success.

You've to consider this that they're fighting against a monster in Bayern who'd walk the PL. BL may be a one horse race but that single horse is extremely strong which can't be said about the current PL where there is no outstanding team but there are 7/8 good teams.

Dortmund are obviously a big club. Just because they are forced to sell some of their key players doesn't mean we should insult the club.

I've had a soft spot for Dortmund since the Koller and Rosicky days and it's a great club with fantastic, loyal fans.

The comparison with Liverpool is daft as well. Their success was big and very recent and I'm sure they'll continue challenging Bayern Munich.

As for Gotze - maybe the Dortmund fans won't agree, but I'd like to see him back at the club as I firmly believe Tuchel could kick-start his career.

It'd be great to see Reus and Gotze at the same team again, regardless of the latter's recent struggles.
 
On the Beckham point, he would have stayed with us if he could. Not like he engineered the move.
 
They have their three attacking mids back together in Reus - Kagawa - Götze. I hope they sign a proper central midfielder like Kovacic as well.
 
I hope he does well for them, if you look at his numbers goals/assists in his time at Bayern, its not awful and he's still only just turned 24.

Why would they leave the Bundesliga? Italian players don't really leave the Serie A, top Spanish players don't leave La Liga and English players rarely leave the PL.

Win trophies with who? The players who aren't good enough for Bayern or Dortmund are rarely good enough for other leagues title challengers. German players only leave Germany if they are demanded by big clubs.

He's got a better chance to win things in one of the top 6 clubs in England than with Dortmund imo. Bayern are simply too strong and Dortmund will always be a club that sells their players.

Which one of them really made an offer? And Religion said German players in general not just Gotze, Germans leave Germany when they have a good offer, Ozil, Mertesacker, Kroos, Khedira are all abroad.

Edit: Schurrle and Boateng were abroad too.

I just think it's a backwards step for Gotze. Shows a lack of ambition on his part to go back to Dortmund. Its going to be a different club to what he remembers anyway with most of the players he remembers have gone. Strange really. Ah well.

Lack of ambition? Maybe he believes in Dortmund, maybe he thinks that it's the best team out of all his pursuers, maybe he thinks that with him they have a real chance of challenging Bayern and perform well in CL, that's also ambition. Joining Liverpool isn't a sign of ambition.

Or maybe he remembered being happy there and wanted to go back despite all of his mates and manager moving on. You honestly think Dortmund will win the Bundesliga? No of course they won't. Liverpool have a better chance of winning the Premier League frankly.

I think that they have a bigger chance than Liverpool or Tottenham, I think that they have a better team and I think that he likes his life in Germany and will logically only leave for a huge club, not just for a potential challenger.

Really? If he goes to Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool then surely no. Even the other big three in City, United and Chelsea are unpredictable currently especially since all three have new managers and quite a few new players.

Didn't Barcelona basically give Eto'o to Inter for free (weird trade deal with Ibra) and then get knocked out by Inter the very next season?
