He's a strange one. Has good numbers, but I'm not sure how technically good he is. He's one of those players who never seems to be completely in control of the ball but yet somehow does something effective.

Very good player. Cheap (10m, because he is free in june) and can play cf and on the wing. Perfect for Utd.

First time I really saw him was the WC final, he played well.

Hasn't exactly smashed huge goal scoring numbers anywhere. Seems to be a bit of a cnut, spitting in an players face and getting a 6 match ban.

There's going to be better options out there surely ?

Lillian’s son. Was in Frances World Cup squad. Had some good seasons in Germany but not good enough for a title challenging team in my opinion.

Isn't he just yet another natural left-sided winger who is doing a job up front rather than an actual 9?

Most of these threads confuse me. We are looking for a backup or rotation player, yet posters are somehow looking for not only a starter but a top level starter.

When he came on as a sub in the WC, didn't he go left and Mbappe in as a striker?

Does he play as a striker/forward in Germany? Because that's what we need.

From my extensive 10 minutes of youtube scouting, he seems to be playing centrally very consistently for his club lately at least. Seems a similar profile of player to Martial.

He's also 6'3", so we just need to get Benni McCarthy to teach him to head the ball like he did with Rashford and we're grand. :wenger:

He can play on either wing and upfront. The reason he plays wide for France is that he is more of the pressing, hard working type and more likely to help his fullback effectively than Mbappé. He is closer to Haller than Martial in terms of attributes.

So am I supposed to believe that the bloke who agreed to join Fulham in the summer but was rejected a work permit is now rejecting Newcastle because he's going to move to United instead?

Someone's agent is still drunk it seems.

EDIT: Never mind, that was Kluivert's son. Can't keep track of former legends son's it seems...

Right. I just think we need to look at a loan if need be this January. And then sign someone in the summer to make Martial a permanent backup. Rather than wasting funds and wages on more players who aren’t going to improve the first team.

I think i like kolo muani more .
less goals but more technical

he is a mistery for me. not convinced about him after WC, although, to be in national team squad speaks for itself and he is not to expensive.

Fine option who has finally come good this season. His finishing can be rather unpredictable though but good pace and strength

Also a hard pass for me, looked ok in 2 world cup games but was just pace and a bit of finishing didn't see a lot more.

Genuinely not what United need.

Definitely yes for me. For the price he is available too...

Instantly better and more of a CF than Martial. Composed in front of goal and has real power and pace. He'll sign for a big club in January or the summer and then this thread will be bumped with people asking why we didn't sign him.

My preference for ST in January is currently..

1.Thuram
2. Vlahovic
3. Morata

If we're getting a ST in the summer then Ohsimen has to be a prime target too.

Decent player, but I'm not convinced he's top club material.

What are the loan options? Delay doesn't seem up to it to me, felix not a striker and ludicrously expensive, Morata could be good but don't know why athletic would let him go given his current form

Looks a bit eh, but like @JPRouve says we’re after a rotational player to do a job in the interim. For the price will you get another attacker who is still quite young and has double digit figures this season? Probably not.

We badly need a striker and this one is on expiring deal, scoring at double digit rate in BL and good enough to feature in stacked French side.

On top of that he suits our style and can press too.

wonder those that turn their noses on this deal who else have in mind?

Which French striker/ winger didn’t go to the World Cup? Martial because the manager thought he “lacked in finishing”.

I think at 10m a striker who did make it and has a good recent goal record is worth a punt. I have no idea why at 26 Martial is not now scoring goals and he struggles to stay injury free too.

Depends if we have a first choice target lined up for the summer. A big signing, Martial and Thuram would seem like too much for one position, however if wages were relatively low then he would become a sellable asset. Not to mention Martial might want to leave if we sign a first choice number 9 anyway.

I‘m not a massive fan of permanent “squad depth” signings, unless they’re young enough to have the potential to become a starter, such as Malacia. More often than not you end up with Donny or Telles. I accept we’ve been left in a position where we’ve got little choice though.

Regarding Thuram I believe it's a question of whether or not he'll be a long-term upgrade on Martial, which he very well might be, and then subsequently how signing Thuram would impact our plans for Martial or a new striker in the summer? Ideally we should sign a stop-gap for the next 6 months (loan) and then sign a long-term target in the summer from a greater pool of options when/if we have new owners and pass on signing Thuram this window, however if Thuram actually is a long-term target then we should obviously sign him now (if we got the money).

As a new nr.9 if I prefer Thuram over alternatives such as Felix, Depay or Dembele.

Good player and cheap. Seems like the perfect deal for us at this moment in time

At this point I think we need options. If he’s good enough to play a part in the France squad then he’s good enough for us imo, and seeing how incredibly poor Martial was vs Wolves, the sooner the better.

If he can finish he sounds like exactly what we are missing. The more goals the better. We need to be more clinical and ruthless.

United need a world class striker, not a stop gap at this point.

Not a punt based on 2 wc games.

I'd rather a loan and obligation to buy of someone that genuinely takes us to the next level

This is Redcafe, it's Haaland or nothing. We should keep playing the same 1 striker up front for 60 games, then fill his thread with abuse when he fails to deliver :wenger:

Agree we need a WC player long term, but that simply isn’t happening this month. There is just no way.
If we can get somebody who can hit the net regularly, cheap enough to have resale value when we come to move him on, why not? Pragmatism will move us forward, we can’t afford to be snobbish about signings in Jan.

I also doubt our interest is based on ‘2 World Cup games’.

No thank you. Also very idiotic of him to not be considering Villa or Newcastle. Sack your agent mate.

Unless you have an endless source of revenue, these squad depth signings are important, you are of course not supposed to have lots of them since that's what your academy and youth scouting is meant to focus on but generally clubs will have holes that need fixing with a player willing to be a squad player. That's essentially your Rafinha(fullback), Choupo-Moting, Seydou Keita, Chicharito, Sabitzer, Mariano or Diogo Jota. None of these players were signed to be starters but they all were meant to fill a gap and all ended up being key at some point.

It's a general point but too many United fans are becoming irrational and expect(demand) things that not even the wealthiest oil clubs consistently do.

At £10m he is probably good value with guaranteed sell on/minimal loss unless we were to offer stupid wages. I just can't see any other value options appearing or anyone else not utterly robbing us.
