Marcus Rashford (out)

I wouldn't loan him to Spurs he'll likely be crap there

we need an easy loan so he can rack up the goals and then con someone into buying him in the summer

Our individual players are good to very good (on their best days).
As a collective however we are decidedly average. The collective drags down individual performance - which is why in the last few season we have bemoaned being ‘individual brilliance fc’.

on paper. which is presumably why we pay them as much as we do. not on the field though. Our top earners (reportedly and from memory) over the last 5-6 years have been - Rashford, Sancho, Ronaldo, Casemiro, Varane, De Gea, Cavani. The ROI just simply isn't there even on an individual level.

Other clubs dont pay those wages to potential/young players. They pay those wages to the real deal, world class players.

We gave Rashford that contract and look at him after that. Got too comfortable and regressed as a player overall. Same with Martial. You have to keep them on their toes. Its very easy for young players to lose their way and considering the money hungry turds around them that give them bad advice along, its a loss for the club.

Nor to has-beens. You simply can't give a mid-30s injury prone Varane, and a clearly-past-his-peak Casemiro 350k or whatever absurd shit we agreed to pay them.

Bruno is a good example of good contract management. We started him on 70k a week(!) and then he showed us why he's worth 200k and we gave him that. He continues to sweat for the badge. That's what we need to do more of.

Sancho really pisses me off. Arguably someone who should've come in at their peak but just bombed.

I think with the way Spurs play he would do okay. Considering the problems Spurs have though it’s funny how this is the sort of player they are looking for to fix them.

Either way, we shouldn’t send him to them unless we are looking at loan fees etc.

Genuinely spat my drink out reading this in a thread about Rashford.
Exactly. The guy couldn’t be ‘uber motivated’ after he lost his NT place but the fans tend to be delusional when it is about Rashford.

To be fair nobody would expect him to be so bad. And at that time we need to overpay or else why would they want to come here? We're United but the players we bought have the bargaining power. At least at that time.

You cant expect him to take a 75k per week when we actively proverbially speaking head hunting him to come to us.

Varane and Casemiro too, they're here for the money. They would have said no if the money is not too good to turn down

Loan him out with a good future sale clause and we're done. At 27 he should be at his peak despite the club state, no reason we should keep him if no further improvement is happening for both sides.

Playing devil's advocate I can see why Rashford lost his mojo. Or at least why he has lost faith in Utd. To set up Rashford to be successful he needs to be firstly on the left and secondly with a good lb behind him and a half decent successful team. We haven't given him any if this. Firstly because of Shaw. Then we played him striker and RW. And then we ask him to work hard and drop back which I get should be a minimum ask but some players are just not like that. Salah doesn't do it, Messi doesn't. Not saying he's at that level just saying he doesn't seem capable. Then as a youngster he probably had dreams of being in this great United side. Being up there with Giggs, Keane, Scholes. Lifting trophies etc. But its been one big fkd up sht show. It would be hard for anyone not to loose enthusiasm. You get a new manager and you think yes ok this it. Let's go. Then bam you're slapped on the face. Over and over again. It's hard as a supporter and yes he's being paid 300 grand and should have motivation but it would grind down anyone over 10 plus years of sht

Would Antony, who earned 25k at Ajax had said no to 50-75k? What was the reason for giving him 200k? Its not just Varane and Casemiro. We gave every useless player end-game salaries

I highlighted this behaviour when it was reported we were trebling Amorim’s wages at SCP and got flamed for it.
We make a reputation for ourselves and as a result we end up with mercenary players who wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the cash.

This show how incompetent United is, I doubt Rashford will find a new club even in the summer. Why should he forego his high wages for a lower salary elsewhere? It is very likely that United need to pay him off (severance) to get him to leave. Maybe he will start with a bang for this loan move but eventually he will return to his usual self. At 27, it is weird to see that his career is over. No club in interested to buy, most only wants a loan move where United continue to pay his salary.

But some of it should come from him, Amad had much worse treatment, sub here, loan there, had good match hooked off, not played in subsequent matches etc.

He put his head down and trained hard and when he got his chance eventually he smashed it. Harry Maguire has had a similar arc, playing his best football since joining.

Unhealthy situation all round.

Difficult not to see shades of Princess Diana in Marcus Rashford.

Yeh if he cant be motivated to play football for his boyhood club, neither when the team is doing well or when the team is in a rut, that motivation isn't going to magically appear somewhere else. Even after years of fully justified criticism for not putting the effort in on the pitch and looking like he doesnt want to be here, and getting dropped from England and seeing them improve as a result, things that should mortify him as a United fan and as a professional footballer, he couldnt find any.

He might enjoy a mini renaissance in Italy, based on it being a third tier league these days. But I dont think he'd be able to meet the usual Serie A standards for training and lifestyle.

Exactly. 10 years ago they'd have gone to Milan, 15 years ago to PSG, and right now 2 Saudi. Unfortunately, that's the kind of club United was 5 years ago.

he’d love milan. it’s the fashion capital of europe, after stevenage.

Thing is if he performs we'll never hear the end of it how he should be given 99th chance here and before you know it it's contract extension time again

Yeah true but it’s meaningless really, I hope he performs wherever he goes

It’s not working here and likely never will

I don't buy this to be honest. ETH set up the entire team around him and Bruno. The transition style football played to his strength but he completely lost form for last 1.5 seasons. I think he is a player who faces mental issues around too much pressure/expectations. When he is playing badly, he goes into his shell and when expected to carry United's attack he again buckles under pressure. His best performances have come when we had supporting attackers like Martial and Greenwood, etc.

Levy has always been an absolute Cnut towards us so If he's interested in Rashford, he should be made to pay top dollar or else feck off.

We should definitely not sell him in PL. He is not Sancho, he is a player who has been able to do it in PL and we could end up strengthening a potential rival.

While I agree to most of this, he didn’t have the supporting attackers in ETH’s reign, he had Hojlund, Weghorst, a young Garnacho. He is ‘only’ effective in a certain system and hasn’t had that for some time.

In European football if that’s the best deal we can do for a soon to be past it Son that’s pretty pathetic. There are plenty of players we could do a swap deal for that represent better value and actually a good opportunity to get a long term deal over the line for said players.

Son is still Spurs' best player, while Rashford has become a non-factor for us. I understand your concern, Son will turn 33 this summer, and it feels like we're heading down a familiar path. That said, I've always had a soft spot for him and would love to see him at United. Who do you think would make for a better swap deal?

Here are some off the top of my head:
Napoli: Victor Osimhen - Seems to be the best option, solves our strikers' issues. (High)
AC Milan: Rafael Leao - Dynamic winger who can fits in well in our midfield. (Medium)
Dortmund: Youssoufa Moukoko - Young exciting striker. (High)
PSG: Achraf Hakimi - Offers defensive stability and attacking width. (Low)
Arsenal: Gabriel Martinelli - Offers versatility and flair to our front line. (Low)
Spurs: Son is still Spurs' most standout player. Besides him who else? Solanke? Probably a decent option.
