Marcus Rashford (out)

Clever by Amorim to blame Rashfords team, gives Marcus an easy way out of this problem rather than making it a problem between the player and club.
But but but the club wants him out now

Seriously this is the second time Amorim gave him an escape route. Let's home that his royal highness won't turn this second opportunity down

Rashford's a 27 year old man at the end of the day. He should have done the interview because he wanted to, not because his team made him do it.

If you're a 19yr old kid and need an agency to steer you, then yeah I'd get if they just went along with everything they said.

Not a 27 year old though. I'd expect them to stop and think 'Do I want to do this'

Meh, has nothing to do with being made to do anything. Amorim is just doing damage control (again) by reaching out a hand and removing some of the blame from Rashford himself, by saying he has people around him that are a negative influence and not really acting in his best interest.

It's taking it a few steps further than his earlier comments about the positive reactions from Rashford and Garnacho in training, giving the impression that they both responded well to being left out of the squad

It's funny to see the excuses being lined up, especially by @Doracle

At the end of the day, there wasn't really a big issue until his interview. Amorim stated Marcus and Garnacho had responded well to being left out of the squad, training really well and that was pretty much the end of it. A few days later you get a portrait interview with Rashford stating that he's ready for the next challenge and essentially that he's ready to leave the club, which has turned every press conference since into Amorim being bombarded by questions about Marcus Rashford.

Rashford fits perfectly in the Lingard, Sancho, Pogba, Martial group.

Better for everyone he finds a new club in January.

Would be better than a new signing. He has been ruined by those around him

Would Newcastle consider him, knowing theyll struggle to keep Isak and an isak fee would more than balance books

On the silver lining, I’m atleast happy he’s willing to leave the club and we could get a fee. We’ve had a lot of players at the club who’ve loved mediocrity more than anything (we actually still have a bunch and injuries make it impossible to put them on the market) and wish to see their overpaid contracts out rather than perform/leave. The players are of course entitled to see their contract out but doesn’t mean we have to like it.

Honestly, the wilful pretend ignorance on this thread is ridiculous. Yeah, there wasn’t an issue at all on Monday 16 December when there were loads of reports of the club looking to sell Rashford and how he was seen as a problem. All absolutely normal, nothing to see here. No way would Amorim have been asked about that. Completely on Rashford for then saying he wouldn’t want to make the situation worse and was open to a new challenge.

This isn’t making excuses for him. He’s clearly on his way out and we should be maximising the money we can get for him. It’s having some common sense and not trying to pretend that it’s Rashford engineering an exit.

In retrospect the most disappointing thing about him will how many he looked as if he was on the cusp of something greater and yet it was always a false start, nor too dissimilar with the state of the team itself, the moment we'd belive were onto greener pastures it'll come down again.

I was sure he'll be among the great forwards of the era in ten hag first but alas it lead nowhere.

It's time to part ways for both parties. This has to happen

How long is left on Rashford's contract? I highly doubt anyone in the PL is going to buy him, so it's highly likely he's going abroad.

The fact Rashford seems determined to leave should make a move alittle more realistic.

Yeeees, that’s exactly what happened. The interview wasn’t Rashford responding to anything, it was Rashford stating that he personally feels he’s ready for the next challenge, the next steps of his career, always looking to improve and he’s never reached the top because he’s always looking to push higher.

Garnacho and Rashford being left out of the squad was always going to create media stories, but nothing that would be difficult to knock back, especially considering Amorim’s comments the previous day. Amorim has taken a very diplomatic approach to this and It’s obviously not in Uniteds interest to have stories like that in the press, especially in a scenario where we’re open to selling him.

The frenzy came after Rashfords pre-planned interview with Winters. It was anything but a sensible approach and instead of things calming down, it’s gone to a different level where journalists are actually having a proper go at him, while at the same time the press conferences have turned into shambles with question after question about Rashford. It’s an extremely frustrating decision from Mr «don’t question my commitment»

As for Rashford engineering an exit. Lets be blunt here, it’s not Ronaldo in 07/08 wanting to feck off to Real Madrid. Convincing Manchster United to sell him isn’t going to be very problematic, the very problematic bit is finding someone willing to pay us a decent fee and pay him decent enough wages so that we don’t have to compensate him too much. Getting him off the wage bill is obviously a bonus, but it would be nice to get some much needed transfer generated income

Why are these players being invoked? United has had plenty that were moved on before and will continue to have so.

Pogba was a good player for United, albeit frustrating at times. Lingard was a decent squad player that contributed important goals. Martial’s last few years were ravaged by injuries but he was also decent for us.

Sancho didn’t work out at all, happens with transfers sometimes, but it makes it even the more curious why he’d be grouped up with someone like Rashford that has 139 goals for United.

Proving himself to be every bit a virus ... The club should have gotten rid ages ago.

Guy played through injury for over a year for United to now be grouped up with Sancho. Crazy.

His form has been poor for a long while, and parting ways has been long overdue but some of the stuff in this thread doesn’t read as reasonable to me, but alas

Agree with that. We broke him playing him constantly through injury and there is no need for any vitriol just let the natural parting of the ways happen.

Mentality wise Ruud is spot on

Lingard at least tried on field and he is the least talented one out of that group

Devastatingly unfortunate that it ends this way for an academy product who was often the one and only bright spot in a dark decade post Ferguson. Due to a million different circumstances things haven’t panned out and him leaving should be a mutually beneficial move. Don’t harbor any ill will towards him, hope he can rejuvenate his career and most importantly find some inner peace and joy. However you feel about him I think some of the abuse he’s received and the sheer volume of abuse has been over the top, criticism is fine but I don’t think he’s deserved half of the treatment he’s gotten.

I really don't get it. He had the chance to do what every United fan would give a kidney to be able to experience and live just for one day.

Shame that he couldn't be arsed to show it on the pitch. Good riddance.
