Marcus Rashford (Out) | Rashford: “For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”

Once he leaves, all we will get is posts saying how we shouldn't have let him go because he has done a random step over

Our kid wanting to jump ship at our worst period in a generation.

Love Rashy .

I am completely in the "sell Rashford" camp, but complaining about him to jump ship is crazy. We are the ones who have changed our system drastically, and he is just not going to magically become a #9 or #10. He hasn't featured in the squad for ages now. I am sure he could have tried harder but I feel both sides know that his time is up regardless, as he doesn't fit into the system (before anyone brings it up - this is not to excuse last two seasons, as the system was basically tailor-made for Rashford).

Of course we will. Every goal he scores will require an article. Every soundbite from him will require a parade. Its United. Even when a player leaves United they are box office up to a point. Any youtube video for Fiorentina tends to have DDG as the thumbnail because they know it will get more clicks still.

Ben Jacobs is tier 5 in United’s reddit, tier 4 in Spurs’ reddit. But he’s tier 2 in chelsea reddit means he’s reliable for Chelsea news.
napoli also play in blue, like chelsea.

Nah, i really don’t hate him. Ideally he steps up and consistently performs for us.

I’ve said it a few times that i think the people around Rashford aren’t very good at «reading the room». He’s an academy player and he’s done wonders for the community, yet it reached a point a long time ago where even the matchgoing fans got frustrated and annoyed with him. That is something that builds up over a long period of time. Imo, the only way of getting out of such a situation is simply by working harder on the pitch. You don’t need the collaboration videos of him training with an external trainer which are then plastered all over social media, you don’t need the PR stuff during the summer about the time spent building up extreme fitness for the coming season. If you don’t actually show this extreme fitness on the pitch it just adds to the negativity. Fair enough that not everything is coming off, the overall performances isn’t good enough, but the minimum is still working hard rather than talk about it. The disconnect between Rashford and matchgoing fans has grown, seemingly without anyone around him being able to understand how to turn it around.

The interview with Winter was a disaster in every possible way. I get that Rashford and Garnacho were hardly pleased with being left out of the squad and hung out to dry in the press with the comments about expectations, performing in training etc, but it was rounded off with Amorim stating that they both responded well to being left out by upping their performances in training. He was pleased with how it was handled by them. Case closed. Fans are already less than impressed with your performances and attitude, you’re coming from a poor season and had the Belfast incident, new manager has just arrived and fans are generally optimistic, just won against Manchester City after turning things round at the very end. It’s not really the perfect timing for a planned interview with Winter where you come off as being able to pick and choose clubs around Europe, ready for a new challenge and the next steps, never resting as life is a stair that must be climbed and all of that. It’s beyond stupid to pull a stunt like that at a time like this. First and foremost you don’t really achieve anything positive by going public, it’s not like any clubs needs to be made aware, it just shows that he’s not ready to accept the challenge laid down by the manager. Secondly, everyone expected a lot of concrete news about interest from clubs given that Rashford went public with him being ready to leave, you expect that a deal is being worked on and it’s pretty much signed, but almost 3 weeks later and there’s been nothing. I really don’t think he could’ve played his hand any worse here. You come off as being in a position of strength, be careful or i’ll join a better club and leave this mess behind, but apparently no one is really interested in investing and you look like a bit of a tit.

Maybe something positive will come out of it, maybe the lack of interest will be a fair bit of a warning to Rashford that at the age of 27, when he should be at his peak, there’s not many clubs interested. It’s quite clear that he needs to drop the people advising him.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts too and I made that same point recently about him playing his hand badly.

Although, I think you're being kind to the people around him. They seem absolutely clueless to me. Mitten, as much as he gets stick around here, has made the point a few times that those around him aren't good for him and are giving him terrible advice.

Wonder if we try and get the Georgian winger in return.
Ironically, I can still see a possibility that Napoli wouldn’t mind to do swap deal between Rashford & Kvara. Mainly because Kvara’s contract situation. Apparently, he’s not interested to renew. Rashford would be their ideal replacement for Kvara since both plays in the same position LW. I doubt it would happen though because Rashford’s wages is too much and his market value is lower than Kvara. But anything is possible as long as Conte is in charged. The guy loves buying United players. Lukaku, Young, Darmian, McTominay, Sanchez. The list can still go on.

Much as I have bashed Rashford on here, we should only be letting him go in January if we are replacing him with someone who can run in behind. The team badly needs some pace up front or we’ll continue to look incredibly blunt.

While I take the point, the two situations are not at all similar.

Arteta was still buying a player who still potential to improve, for one, and you can't possibly be suggesting that their goal scoring percentage would be the only criteria they looked at.

There's a massive difference between buying Havertz who had turned 24, in the weeks before that transfer, and buying Rashford with all of his faults, not least that he's lost pace and has shown no aptitude for pressing, at 27. Arsenal under Arteta also don't tend to buy a lot of players over 25.

I see that. But from a manager perspective, if you put Rashford in a really well organized and disciplined side with leaders and tallent all over the pitch, that seem to be pulling in the same direction, then I can see a manager like Arteta getting the very most out of Rashford.

You look at Rashford's record and there is a correlation between the team functioning well and Rashford performing. When we look like a basket case of a side, which we have at many times, then Rashford is not the type to pull us out of that.

You could same the same about the majority of United players. Insert any into a structured, organized, well coached team and all of a sudden they will perform. Every signing we made played good football before they came to Old Trafford.

Yes, Rashford is older than Havertz, but chances are if Arsenal do buy him (which is very unlikely) , then it would be less than what they paid for Havertz which may negate the age concern.

Wonder if the club is prepared to dig it's heels in. Marcus clearly has ideas above his station. He's basically saying he doesn't want to work for the team and then expects there to be a queue of clubs wanting to sign him where he'd likely break the wage structure.
Many of my friends support Forest. Even they don't want him as they think he'd disrupt the team harmony.

Sick with worry because the offers aren't rolling in for him and reality sucks.

I don't really care what the excuses are any more. Dropped/sick/injured, we have a brighter future as long as its without Rashford.

This was my first thought too. The plan didn’t work out for him. I believe he will be moved on this window for sure. Napoli might actually be his destination.

At this point I just want him out we so can stop seeing nothing but news, rumours and shit about him and the club... sick off it tbh. It's a circus at this point.

Goes to Napoli, is amazing, they win the league. Meanwhile United barely avoid relegation

And somehow the club will remain defiant to the math and not throw the kitchen sink at Conte, the one guy who not only likes seemingly all of United's player but also consistently gets the best out of them

This is an awkward spot. The club can’t back down now or it’s just another testament for player power and nothing really changing. I don’t know if he knew there was no way back once he gave that interview, but there can’t be now.

IDK.

Would anyone have said Arteta would have bought Havertz for £65mil and put him on £280,000 a week?

I bet you that prior to that transfer being rumoured, people would have said there as a zero chance of that.

And we are taking a Havertz that scored 7 in 35 the season before Arteta signing him. Rashford in this dreadful season of his is averaging better.

There’s plenty of «surprise» signings where someone sees more potential than others, but i think you’re misunderstanding the concept here. Arteta didn’t want Havertz because he was potentially a goalscoring machine, but because of his allround play and how he can improve others around him. It’s slightly more complicated when your allround play is weak and there’s barely any end product. Clubs are then asking themselves if they can get the player back to the form he displayed in the 22/23 season, rather than how they can continue to build on current performances. It makes it more complicated when the player is at such a point in his career, when he should be at his peak.

You wont really. Only better results can help us otherwise the more games Rashford doesn’t play, the elite-er he becomes

Honestly he needs better advisors around him and its for his time at a different club. What an amazing timing of that interview!

No, i see that in the case of Havertz, Arteta wasn't buying a 30 goal a season player. I still dont think many Arsenal fans would say that Havertz was worth the fee + wages.

Its is very likely a mute point, as it is very unlikely that Arsenal sign Rashford, but if you were to ask me, would i rather have a cut price Rashford (30mil plus his wages at 27) than a 60mil plus £275k a week for Havertz, i would take a gamble on Rashford. I see more upside, even though it is a risk.

Surely, he will leave this January. The club can’t afford to pay 300k p/w for a player who can’t even make it on the bench.

Well this is all entirely and depressingly predictable.

Rashford & his team are so detached from reality they thought they could play their hand early and he’d have clubs lining up for his signature. As it turns out, no cnuts want him so we’re back to briefing the press about staying and giving his all etc etc I’m sure we’ll have a tweet or an interview about how much he loves the club and never wanted to leave sometime around early February.

This is what happens when your surround yourself with yes men & people who just blow smoke up your ass. He’s bought into his own hype and thrown away any potential he once had.

So true. But I bet he still won't get it.

Great post. Exactly my thoughts.

and which team can afford a player earning 300k who can’t even make out bench?
Who knows who’s the lucky team but we need to get rid. It makes zero sense to pay 300k p/w without even using him.

300k p/w is equivalent to signing a player for 47m on 120k p/w wages. Lot of money.
