He has basically admitted he hasn't even asked for a medical opinion because "there was no chance i was getting the surgery before the euros" It shows me some incredible stupidity from both rashford and Manchester United. If it was me , you find out all the information you can from medical experts and then evaluate the risk reward of you playing or getting surgery. What it sounds like to me is he has decided himself , definitely no surgery and after the euros I'll get the information to make a decision.
Think your right and your probably being kind to Rashford really. A more cynical view would be that he knows that he will be having surgery and will be miss a large amount of games for utd while utd pay him to sit on the bench for England.

You’d have to feel he’s probably fully fallen behind Sancho now too. I get that he wanted to go and be with the lads, they are the fellas he’d be recovering with on holiday anyway and hes always selected for England so I understand that’s his group and it would be a shame to miss it, especially if they win it but If this isn’t a reminder to him that his place is actually in serious jeopardy long term then I don’t know what else will be. Southgate clearly values work rate. Surely he didn’t think he’d rock up and just walk into the team on his 2021 form? I’d say he knew it himself and just went in case he was needed. The competition for places in that 3 is intense. Playing him in every game would have actually been the kind of mistake past england managers would have made picking the side on reputation and past output.

He’s injured. Let the lad have his surgery and show what he’s capable of when he’s fully fit. Every time I see this thread bumped I always have to remind of this fact. There is literally no point talking about his form from January onwards because both he and Solskjaer admitted that the surgery would wait until after the euros because he was too important to Utd and England. For us, he put up decent numbers while performing well within himself and I expect for England it’s one of those where a 70% Rashford is better than the other options from the bench.

Im expecting a good 21/22 from him and now we have Sancho we can afford him the time to get well and sharp again.

Such a bullshit quote from Southgate, this isn't a domestic season where you can ask players to be patient it's an International tournament with a maximum of 7 games, if he wasn't in his plans knowing he's been carrying an injury he should have done the right thing and told him he wouldn't of played

I'm more concerned that our medical team hasn't told the player what the issue is and whether he needs surgery. They only see him a few times a week for 7/8 months. Are those quotes concerning to you doc?

No, from what I read it's more the timelines that haven't been discussed. I think everyone is aware what the issue is.

On the topic of where was he during the celebrations I have no idea, as I thought live he's fully kitted when the final whistle blows like he was about to come on but then he disappears for the rest of the video

I think he went straight down the tunnel after the final whistle, as he has done for every game so far. Haven't seen him on the pitch for celebrations yet.

A bit strange really. I still hope he has a role to play in this tournement. Even if it's only to convert a penalty.

you can see him run onto the pitch though?

I fear his only involvement left in this tournament is going to be as a late sub in an England defeat (where no doubt our 'fans' will blame him for not getting a goal or an assist in the 30 seconds he's on)

Yeah you are right. So he either joined the celebrations in the stands and was singing sweet caroline with the fans, or he went straight down the tunnel after his run onto the pitch :D

Hmm I think he also has a chance to come on if the result is equal. And I certainly think for a penalty shootout Southgate would sub him on. I'm not sure I would be able to watch his pen:lol:

It's not just the shoulder though, even in the article above they say he's has a foot injury since march. Have a look at this and tell me you're optimistic about him fixing his injury problems next year https://www.transfermarkt.com/marcus-rashford/verletzungen/spieler/258923

Oh yeah, the foot/ankle injury he picked up against City is the one I'm more concerned about but hopefully it's the kind that only requires rest and not some floating bone chip or other wild shit.

His shoulder will need a lot of rest to resolve itself so it's probably better for him to have surgery so his fitness doesn't suffer.

Spot on. And despite him maybe thinking this shows his innate toughness all it shows to me is a blatant disregard for the people who pay his wages and his need to be at his absolute best to start next season.

What if the answer to the question he didn't want to know the answer to is, "6 months"? What then? It's unacceptable. This is information that should have been gathered immediately after the injury and assessed by all parties as to what was the best option to get him right the soonest he possibly could. If he ends up missing a significant chunk of the season I'll be fuming and so should everyone else be.

If he was going to be integral to the manager’s plans this summer I could see him taking a risk and bringing a half-fit player to the Euros.

But I have a hard time believing Southgate would take a player who was injured and in need of possibly multiple surgeries as part of his squad just to sit on the bench. I genuinely don’t see it.

Even reading articles where his shoulder injury is cited, he says he isn’t sure if he needs an operation or not.

‘I have to decide after (the Euros). It’s either an operation or I don’t get an operation.

‘I’m not 100 per cent sure if I need it yet. So I’ll just take it as it comes. I’ll finish strong here and I’ve got a few weeks off to just relax and decide what I’m going to do.’

Is that how it works? Surely the club employs medical staff who examines injuries and make recommendations as to the best way to resolve it.

Of course it’s a players decision if he has surgery, it’s his body. But it seems to be left up to Rashford as to whether he needs it. To me that seems strange. Isn’t that for club doctors to make a determination on?

He should be on a beach right now recovering from surgery. He is gambling with his career, his body is his greatest asset.

It's usually not that simple, and it also depends on what is lost in translation with Rashford commenting on it based on what doctors have told him. Maybe they've said that surgery is recommended to be certain, but that it can also be sorted without it if he has enough rest.

I reckon he isn't being completely honest, though. If someone has mentioned surgery, they've also mentioned scenarios with recovery time. This whole "i don't know because surgery was never going to happen at the time" doesn't make sense in any way.

He's a part of an England team that has reached the finals, so it's not that difficult to understand his situation and reasoning, even though he's played a little less than feck all...

Can't help but feel that it's not worth it, and it's a decision both him and club is going to regret.

He is going to regret getting an Euro 2020 medal?

It was so obvious that he wasn't going to be a starter. One day we will know why he decided to not withdraw.

He's a competitive player, being awarded a medal for simply being a part of the group of players when he hasn't really been involved. Some people don't mind it, like John Terry in the CL final, while others do.

Worst case is that he plays no part, England loses and we lose the player during a difficult part of the season. Will it then have been worth it?

If he's subbed on against Italy, plays a part in winning it, then by all means.

exactly.

some people don’t understand what this competition means to the players.

Yeah, even if he is not starter he backed himself to win the place. Also being part of that squad should be awesome experience for every England player, part of the squad that reached Euro finals (probably first time for England), imagine asking player to give up that just because he can play 5-6 extra games for ManUtd.

I somewhat agree. Dereliction of duty from the club if they have left everything to him. He hasn't looked right all year and his good numbers haven't masked it.

Why is it hard for some to understand that for most players representing their country and contributing to it's success in whatever way is still a big honour for them and if entails making sacrifices like playing through pain or even deferring medical procedures they would gladly do it.

Or not playing at all..

Well he has played as a sub for quite some games & even if he didn’t change the game himself- he was still trusted by his manager to represent the Nation.

Does Anderson or Fletcher care if they won a CL trophy even if they were predominantly subs? I don’t think so - they would be proud to be part of the squad that won it and it is no different ( probably greater) when players win stuff for the National team.

You only get 4-5 times to play in National teams for a trophy so I can see why Rashford is dedicated to this.

You think other players like Chillwell, Coady, DCL etc will be disappointed getting a winners medal while not featuring much ? Umm no.

Its a squad game with a maximum of 7 games/fixtures.

Or not playing at all..
Well this is not true at all as he has played. He was subbed on in all 3 group games when the score was still 1-0 / 0-0 (so he was trusted to secure those results).

Obviously this is far off from the days when he regularly started for England but if he could decide in hindsight I believe he would still decide to be part of the England squad for this tournament.

I would expect Rashford and Chilwell would have expected to feature a hell of a lot more than they have and will be disappointed with their lack of game time

Coady will have probably known he was 3rd/4th choice and CB's aren't where you go dicking around with rotation and DCL probably knew his minutes would be limited with Kane ahead of him

Is he going to get operated after the Euros then?

I think long-term this would be needed before the season starts, with Sancho coming in and hopefully all our other attackers ready for the start of the season, we would have enough depth until Rashford can fully recovery from his surgery.

A lot of fans, United fans especially, are in denial about the fact that representing their country matters far more to most players than their clubs, even if the clubs are the ones that pay them. You see it all the time, the passion players show for their national teams far surpasses what they display for their clubs in a lot of cases.

That’s not necessarily true especially not for English players. I would similarly expect Rashford to play through pain for United which he did do for large parts of the last two seasons.

He is going to score the winning goal in final. You read it here first.

Feel sorry for all the lads that keep warming up for no reason at all. I spotted Cody giving 110% the other night and was like what is even the point because even if we got an injury Gareth would more than likely switch Walker inside and throw on Trippier or something.

Rashford will feel it the most I'd imagine, a few of the lads are either young or been on the cusp of the squad so being there is great for them but Marcus has been a integral part of this team for the last six years. I'd have thought he'd get far more minutes than he's actually got this tournament.

He has, absolutely, and if he wasn't trusted by his manager he wouldn't be in the Euros at all. None of this changes the fact that he's currently third choice and, essentially, delaying treatment on injuries that everyone keeps blaming for his performances for the second half of the season. He's a fringe player at the Euros for England. If Rashford is happy with his involvement and contribution, then by all means. Personally i'm more concerned about how they perform for Manchester United rather than England.

I'll reserve judgment on the whole scenario of him going to the Euros until we see him play for us. If he carries on to struggle with his body it would be a huge shame though.
