Well that's my point. The balls in behind and scoring 1 v 1s are his bread and butter but it's the good movement in the box and getting onto the edge of cross that makes a good 9 a great one. He just simply has to score.
Yeah he's not naturally good at scoring in different ways, he's more of a winger for sure. Those goals you describe, that's what he is class at. You don't really see him scoring headers or poachers goals. He can't hold up play to a high level.

Fred's chance ended up being much bigger than Rashford's was from that angle, so I'd say he did the right thing.
Agreed. Squaring it was absolutely the right call as opposed to having a go on the run from an acute angle. If Fred puts that away (which he should have) everyone would be praising him for his selflessness and excellent decision making.

He used to though. He's 2 goals against ares were headers in the box after great movement and unless he gets that back, he won't ever be a 9.

Even the best strikers will miss big chances. They wont miss them as often as Rashford but it can happen. Rashford is shit at heading though, that is certain.

He did fairly well when he came on. Offered more in attack than Ronaldo did although that is quite a low bar these days. Too bad the miss is what will be the reminder of his game

Amount of chances he has missed in last 2 games :wenger:

Being paid £200-250k a week for that, and folks want us to hand out a new large contract for him

Did well. Has always been shit in the air unfortunately
He is quite a curious case. When he burst into the scenes his heading was quite good. For example the goal against Arsenal.

However as time moves on his heading just gets worse and now is shit.

Anyway despite the missing header he had a good game today I think. In 20' he gave us two big chances. The previous 70' I can't remember even one.

No idea why ETH started Ronaldo instead of him. Imo we would have won if he started.

Yeah, outliers. He just hasn't got the ability to score those goals consistently. It's odd because he's not exactly small, I wonder if he works on it in training.

Team 'we looked more dangerous when he came on' FC are out in force.

We really are just accepting any show of competence as good enough. Lost possession so easily twice as the beginning of a counter attack. Once was with a brain dead backheel to our centre back who was never getting to it. He didn't have confidence to bury it after rounding Pope and then gave us miss of the season so far. Let's get real

Will get pelters for missing that chance, but he’s so evidently our key forward. Nobody else can makes the runs he does. Everybody else just wants it short and narrow all day. He’s the only one who really stretches the defence with genuine threat running in behind and wide in those channels. Has to be nailed on to play 90 in the big games now. His illness was a massive loss.

Pros: Gave us pace in behind.
Cons: Hasn't been able to hit a barn door all week.

He's not a 9 and won't ever be. He's a left winger/inside forward. He's very good at that. I don't understand why people keep thinking he might be a 9.

Ten Hag is playing him there because Ronaldo is retirement level, and Martial is always injured. So we have nobody else. That's it.

Our best attacker by miles - not even close. We barely created anything of note before he came on.

He hasn't tried to improve his heading ability in the last 6 years has he?
He scored a header vs Arsenal in his debut and then he scored no more than 5 headers in his next 6.5 years career. He basically loses all aerial duels as well.

This is the truth.

He has to be putting chances like that away, at that point in the game.

Even with Ronaldo on the pitch we totally vacate the penalty area. For years now It’s so apparent that the opposition centre backs can play in second gear and just keep clearing the ponderous ball we eventually toss in there to nobody. How we got stuck with Ronaldo and didn’t sign a proper striker is criminal.

Not a fan of him on striker position but we look much better as a team with him on no9 than Ronaldo. Must start vs Spurs (if Martial will be still out)

Our standards have dropped so much that people are calling that performance decent. Nani used to get pellets for similar performances. Not good enough for the club and I sure hope that we don’t offer a new contract.

Rashford was ill so wasn't match fit.

Also, he was always shit. Just had one of those games where everything came off in his debut.

I don't think its curious. He just happened to get a couple of straightforward headers in his first few games.

But its been clear all along he's terrible in the air.

Now he grew up a tiny winger so I can understand that at 18 years of age. What I can't understand is it not improving one bit over the last 6 years.

By the way. We'd be idiots to not give him a contract and to let him go. It's honestly mind boggling the way people on here react about him. He's a very good wide forward. But yeah, because he missed a header, let's bin him... :wenger:

Something tells me this isn't going to catch on...

Nah, angle was good. He should and could have shoot. Passing was wrong choice while you have open goal
Fred got an open goal from a much, much better angle. Rashford's was a 7/10 chance from there at best, Fred's was a 9/10.

Yeah he's pathetic in the air. Virtually every aerial duel he’ll jump and duck out of it at the last split second

Respectfully disagree. The chances of any player scoring from that angle is far less than any player scoring from literally in front of the goal.

Fred needed to just pass that into the net with his weaker foot.

Some people would argue that creating chances is pretty important.

Some in here would think Mark Hughes' goal against Barca all those years ago was a simple tap in

He was quite far from the goal. The goal was open but if he hit it safe the defenders would come back and clear it. To score he'd have to aim for the near corner and hit it strong. It's difficult as he was quite far from the goal. Imo it's a correct decision.

Yep, some people show a lack of sense. They don't seem to realise, without a new contract, it is either a heavily discounted sale this summer or a free transfer to be confirmed in January 2024.

Yep, an in form Rashford essentially would cost 100m to replace anyway. And he's been in form this season. So. Yeah.

Thought he did alright when he came on looked ok. On the Fred chance if he fecked that up he would have threads created all week about how dumb he is for not squaring it. The last chance was terrible though, most 9's finish that but just add to the consensus the Rashford isn't and won't be are 9 when the others are fit/bought.

Yeah thats the reason people are sceptical about giving him a lucrative contract..

He did create our biggest chance of the game, and arguably the season, for Fred.

So an attacker creating a chance is enough to immunise him from criticism? Christ do we build a statue if he scores?! He was absolutely ordinary when on, like our other attackers, and also managed to throw a win away from 6 yards out - and there are people happy with him! Its insane

You're a parody, dude.
