Probably needs to go on loan to Everton...

If there’s one player who is not leaving, it’s Rashford on loan or otherwise. He will be inconsistent like the vast majority of 20 year olds. I only wish some of our ‘fans’ had some patience and just let the guy develop.

Good to see him do well - even though he is playing wide - he isn't being played as wide as he does at United where he holds the touchline much like martial.

Defensively he falls back to cover between the LB & LCB & then is placed on the counter to attack between the RCB & RB of Spain.

Iv been saying this for Martial in particular. There is a big difference between made to play directly against a full back compared to being made to play against the space between a RCB & RB.

The first suits a very skillfull player like neymar who have the ability to beat their fullback with ease whilst the latter use needs to use their position & pace to take the defence on.

Great goal and overall a good game. Proves the doubters who think he's nothing special wrong. X

Good game. The movement of the front 3 was too much for Spain in the first half.

Another one of our strikers flourishing on international duty, shame it will be back to normal when he's back at the club

Yep and again it's down to Southgate creating a good atmosphere in the team. Everyone knows their job and they play as a team.

He definitely likes southgate a lot. Posted a picture of both of them embracing each other and congratulating him when he signed the new contract.

Wish we had Kane and Rashers up top for us. Delighted for Rashford he seems to enjoy playing for England.

Meanwhile back at United we're supposed to believe the Lukaku-system is the only way to deploy strikers. We'll end up going for Zlatan because that's the only mould of striker our manager knows to work with

Is he good again?

Ahhh but he was a shite player just a game ago.

No surprise he thrives in a team with quicker attacks and better movement among the 3 up top.

He had a poor game before this one but we know he's better than that.

Lukaku wouldn’t have been able to make the pass Kane did that’s for sure.
Ok, this Lukaku bashing is getting out of hand. I am not his biggest fan either and he has the touch of a toddler, but he made a great pass last year for Lingard's goal when we played Arsenal at the Emirates(otherwise called as DDG going Super Saiyan). He has that in his locker, it's just that he is way too inconsistent, like the rest of our attackers.

Rashford looked good today, but he is so right-footed. It might be better for him to develop a serviceable left foot.

Misses a lot of sitters for a player who enjoys playing for his country .

He has two goals and an assist in 3 games against elite opposition in the Nations League so far. His assist, goal and work ethic last night was world class.

He has missed too many chances though but imagine how good he would be if he sharpened up in front of goal.

I remember him saying that he is best when he doesn't have time to think. You look at the chances missed against Croatia and both times when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper, his shot placement was awful. Yesterday, there was a defender right behind him and he just slammed it.
Also, that touch to set the shot was mint.

But moving forward, he needs to massively improve his decision making in front of goal, if he ever wants to start as a striker for us. You can't miss clear chances against elite opposition in games where there might be very few opportunities to score. You can't play the 'youth' card forever.

I agree, he needs to improve his effectiveness in front of goal especially in one-on-one situations where he has time to think. England could have been on 9 points in this group if he had that in his game.

The 'youth card' idea is a funny one. There won't be many strikers about that have scored 39 goals for club and country by the age of 21 whilst playing in one of the world's top leagues.

He's 21 in a couple of weeks and most players are still on an improvement curve up to the age of 24.

Good that he contributed a lot to the win, goal and assist vs Spain is a very good return. People forget he is just 20, it's shows how highly he is rated by England and ManUtd coaching staff that he is playing regularly for both sides.

Well according to some guy, you should improve your finishing and everything at youth teams. First team is not for development and improving your skills

Are we blaming our set up for rashfords collection of absolute sitters being missed? If so i assume it means he thrived under van gaal due to the expansive fast football we played. Or are the usual brigade hijacking yet another thread to moan about mourinho?

This. That was a goal worthy of any Mourinho team. Kane is just different class than Lukaku as a target man. That was brilliant and what we lack at the cluib as long as Mourinho is still here.

Rashford is the latest in the "wasted on the wing" nonsense that is prevalent in British football. It was the same with Rooney or any other promising forward who is shunned to the wasteland that is the flank of the pitch.

The number 9 role is too pivotal in modern football to play such an inexperienced and inconsistent player in that position. I also disagree that playing Rashford right up against the defence is his best position. He thrives in space with his speed and will get more of that by starting in a wide position.

The insinuation that his finishing suffers by playing wide is nonsense. Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappe, Salah, Mane, Hazard all manage(d) to score plenty from a wide position. In modern football, wide players in a front 3 are forwards and often can have more goal scoring responsibility than the number 9. If they can't get into goal scoring positions when playing wide in a front 3 it shows poor positional play.

The biggest obstacle to English players being prolific from wide areas is the stigma that playing wide seems to have in England and the fact the players would rather listen to the media drone on about how the coach is ruining them by playing out of position rather than learning and improving in the role.

Good stuff mate. If memory serves I'd say Andy Johnson was properly wasted, when he got that handful of caps as a decent goalscorer inexplicably told to hug the touchline by Sven, but as you say a wide forward should get plenty of sights of goal, particularly with a quality number nine who is good at holding up the ball such as Kane or (last season's) Lukaku.

How many games have you been waiting for him to play well so you could say this?

Without considering this game also it's obvious Rashford is a good young player.

How many 20 year old players have scored against teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, City. Apart from these he played part in all the 5 goals we scored in QFs and SFs of Europa league, all this when he was 19-20 years old.

Last season he averaged 122 mins per goals+assist, playing as a winger that's a very good return for a 20 year old player.

There is no doubting his ability. Look if established players like Sanchez and Lukaku are struggling for form at United currently, you can understand why a 20 year old kid would be too.

Another recognition of this great post.

This is a rollercoaster I never want to get off. Wake me up when we're at the trough of "he misskicked a ball, shittest player I've ever seen" so I can get the heady ride back up to the top again.
