I genuinely believe if Martial did that you’d consider that a shot.

As I've said, your beliefs are your own.

If you look at the replay, the goalkeeper makes a complete mess of it. If he takes a step back, jumps up and puts his arms up, he can collect it easily, or if he doesn't trust himself enough he can just put his hand to it and put it out for a corner. Which is the entire point, the fact that he's an insecure goalkeeper which fumbles the ball into his own net doesn't make it a good shot. It's a huge mistake from a young inexperienced goalkeeper, and it's clever thinking from Rashford, but a shit attempt at a save doesn't make it a good shot

Maybe a better or more experienced keeper would've prevented that, but give him credit for this goal. He puts good balls in the box.

The fact Rashford is keenly aware of the keepers weaknesses and attempts a shot when he otherwise would not is exactly why it’s a good shot. It’s not a hard concept.

I really hope that injury is not serious.

One of the only players we have that actually terrorises defences.

 Listen to Mourinhos interview..

And no, just because he's an inexperienced goalkeeper it doesn't make it a good shot.

It's a clever attempt - not all that well executed and the goalkeeper makes a mistake he's going to regret for a long long time.

It's not a comparison, it's a point.

A shot's quality is based on the context behind it, a bad shot in one situation can be a good shot in another. Its safe to say that Rashford would never have attempted that shot with an experienced goalkeeper. Its very basic strategy, a winning move is a good move.

Not only was the Robertson shot unintentional, but it was from one keeper to the other. Any point you made was completely incoherent.

Mourinho said it in the interview after the match, they had a strategy for the goalkeeper and knew he took big risks. Rashford tries to take advantage of him standing so far out, but he doesn't hit it hard or high enough, instead the goalkeeper can save it easily but completely fecks it up.

It's absurd to argue that the shot is good because the goalkeeper makes a huge mistake. If he takes a step back, jumps up and puts his arms up, he can collect it easily, or if he doesn't trust himself enough he can just put his hand to it and put it out for a corner. Shit goal. Not sure why he's being made out like a genius for what was one of the worst goalkeeping howlers of all time.

It was an over-hit cross to me.

And it was an awful GK error.

Rashford is just frustrating to watch personally. So many good moments in a game with some WTF moments too. His technique/technical skill deviates SO much throughout a game. I've said it before, but I don't think this is something you improve with age. You either have great technique or you don't.

Thought he was our most dangerous player overall though and the only one pushing for a goal. Hopefully injury isn't serious.

Dunno if it was a cross, shot or shit cross/shot, I just know it's one of the worst keeper blunders I've witnessed recently. Why are they playing an 18 year old keeper though

I thought he was a bit erratic tonight but I do think he meant to test the keeper with that free-kick, it was obvious from the previous two corners he whipped in that the kid was susceptible. Hopefully the injury isn't too serious.

Thought he was poor in the first half but really took the initiative in the second. Hopefully the injury isn’t too bad... but an extended run for Martial could be a blessing in disguise.

He was obviously testing the keeper, and it worked. Doesn't really matter that it was a big mistake on the keeper's part - that was the point. Rashford knew he had a mistake in him and kept asking the question.

Mom said possible knee injury for Rashford. Fingers crossed. Hopefully nothing serious.

His goal was obviously not an intended cross. He rightly tried to catch the keeper out. I do agree though, that it is equally obvious that as far as shots go, it wasn't a 'great shot'. It was ridiculous goalkeeping. If Rashford had actually lobbed the keeper or something with his free-kick, like Ronaldinho vs England, that he would have of course attempted due to spotting a weakness in the keeper, it would definitely be a stroke of genius. It was clever, but obviously not a 'great shot'. Surely, a shot that a keeper SHOULD save easily doesn't become great because the keeper lets it in?

That's like Le Tissier's shot against Taino being called a 'great shot' because he took the effort on the basis the keeper was dodgy.

Marcus has more goals than C.Ronaldo in his first three champions league appearances. Ronaldo actually never scored a champions league goal until he was 22 years old, despite debuting in the competition as an 18 year old. I'm just saying, this kid has done more at his age than some greats of the game. The performance in itself was not very good, but as always, he showed the potential is there.

Crappy non goal aside I thought he was our best player in the second half and was the driving force before the injury. Really think it's getting to the stage we play him and Martial in the same side as the team really isn't playing well. Grinding through games at the moment and lucky to not be found out at the moment.

Sums up the quality of the game. There isn't much to talk about. Rashford did well to test the keeper but conceding from this shot was a blatant error.

Exactly not sure how anyone could think that was a cross from Rashford as He had been clearly trying to catch the keeper of his life all second half .

He was looking straight at the keeper for the free kick and actually rushed his shot as he saw him go off his line as much as he did .

It was intelligent play from Rashford and he got his reward for it

Love him and get a buzz watching him play, regardless of how he does. Plug somebody else in on the right side and give us some balance and I am placated.

Got his act together in the second half because he became more composed instead of trying to break every time he got the ball, loved his corners and that bit of skill he displayed when he left their RB in a heap. I don't know if it was instructions or whatever but I don't like it when he reduces his game to just being a pace merchant because he has the vision and skill to be much more than that but since he is still learning his trade he can be forgiven.

 The caf's new favourite cliché.

I agree though, and not in a ghoulish 'love Martial, hate Rashford' kind of way. This should be Martial's chance to grab 70-90 minutes in every big game.

Get well soon Rashford.

I thought he meant it for a shot. When I watched it, the curve of the free kicks looks like he took a shot and aimed top corner but it didn't go top corner at the end.

This thread is so tedious
Isn't it just. We really needed a surgical dissection of what, for the sake of neutrality, could easily be called a cross cum shot towards a suspect keeper. Who gives a feck, when all anyone will remember is that the goalie made a mess of it and we scored.

Rashford knew what he was doing on that free kick. He was doing the same on corners.
