Width and far more quality than Young - that's what he gave us. Massive impact in turning the game around.

He's been largely looking better the past few sub appearances anyway. Was saying he had to start if Martial was injured for this game because of the way Palace played, needed that width and directness more then lingards off the ball movement in front of the defence. Worked out in the end.
One thing about all our attacking players bar Sanchez and Lukaku (though with sanchez, still early days and I'm sure he'll improve here, while Lukaku has his own struggles), is that they're all so inconsistent but all can be difference makers off the bench. Martial gets benched for a few weeks, turns into a devastating sub and forces his way into the team. Loses a tiny bit of form, rashford shows great impact from the bench, gets a few starts, loses form. Mata comes on today and has a great impact, but then loses form and gets benched after he gets a few starts. Same with Lingard. Was in great from end of december. Lost form in January. Went on the bench, made the most of a couple of sub appearances and was a difference maker vs Chelsea, starts today, has a very "meh" game. Like that with everyone. Big part of why it's so hard to get consistency when we have 4 attacking players playing as squad players in terms of consistency. It'd be fine if we had Sanchez fully integrated and at his best, so I'm sure it'll be fine in the near future, but he's still adapting and finding his role in the team while needing to find form himself. Nobody is putting a run together of playing at the same intensity, same consistency, same high levels, etc.. So in that sense, spots are there for the taking for any of them and Mourinho is generally just picking based on form.

He adds balance to a very narrow playing team. Our play gets crowded centrally and he at least has that positional intelligence to hug the touchlines and it was nice to see some penetrating passes from him i.e. that ball that played Mata in one on one.

Think this kid deserves a lot of credit for our second half. Looked much tighter on the ball and very dangerous. Hopefully keeps developing that close control dribbling because with the pace he has.. he doesn't need to over do the tricks or just run at full pelt all the time, just needs to keep defenders guessing and glide past them.
Still want him taken off free kicks. That one free kick where he did the Ronaldo hit and it just went wide was too funny for all the wrong reasons.

Thought barring giving us some much needed width he was poor again yesterday. Awful crossing and free kicks in addition to not offering enough threat or quality but an improvement on his previous performances. Hopefully can get some form back

He’s out of form - but he just keeps trying. Really like the effort he is putting in. The free kick aside, I thought he did good - with the ball to Mata being great.
And some people wants him out on loan. Playing and experience this is a far greater learning session.

Think the reason why you need to continue to play him is because he plays with a sense of urgency and has a great activity level. For a team that often looks sluggish, that is a big deal. Martial is a talented dribbler but definitely less active, if he isn't feeling it, he often disappears.
With that said, I wouldn't mind playing them both, Rashford can play on the right.
Either way, Rashford just seems to have IT. I think its the mental approach he has to the game, you can tell he wants to improve, be great, impose himself etc. A lot like Ronaldo in that regard.

I still dont think hes a winger. Maybe part of an attacking front three, but he needs to be closer to the goal vs out wide.

Definitely showed signs of improvement in that regard. If he can continue to develop that he can really be a frightening prospect with the speed he has.
His dribbling really is fantastic. I think the most important part for him is to develop his decision making. If he does that I'll start believing the top/world class potential.
He's having the same development role Ronaldo had with us out wide. The more he proves himself, the more licence he will have to roam inside.
Im not sure they are the same type of players. Ronaldo used skill to beat men. Rashford has to rely on pace (it seems) to get past a man. And his crossing isnt the strongest either.
IMO its a mistake to put Rashford out wide just because hes fast. Thats the way I view it. (Hopefully it turns out great for him here).
His direct play with the ball is more suited to the wing though. He will normally have his back to goal up front.

The method they used to beat a man is irrelevant but the box of tricks they use to get past a defender isn't entirely dissimilar, Rashford opts for a kick and run approach most of the time but he can turn on the flair when he wants to. Ronaldo became much more direct by around his 3 season with us.
It's not "just because he's fast" either, he's got a wicked cross on him and a wicked shot from distance. Limiting the space to run into and time he'd have on ball by playing him off the shoulder of the last defender is a waste of his current talents and would put too much pressure on him to produce statistics.
For me it is brilliant in spurts, but also incredibly poor at times too.. which is why I thought the Ronaldo comparisons were so hasty (he was a fantastic dribbler at 18, but overdid things.. which is different to bumping into players and running it out of play). For me instead of trying to copy Ronaldo in terms of tricks etc.. if he added more of a Messi style of taking players on, relying on feints and bodyswerves.. it would suit him more and make him look up whilst dribbling and pick out passes more.
Getting dropped was the best thing to happen to him, because it makes him realise he's not the finished product yet.
When he broke into the scene, he was just about scoring goals and showing he's up for it. Later year he added started showing few more attributes like his changed shooting, free kick techniques, built himself quite well for the league. Though he's had a silent season, his numbers are pretty good considering his age and the exposure he's getting. Wait till he puts 1 and 1 together in his mind and he'd be right up there with the best. I could see him having an amazing career at Untied.
It isn’t me; he gets too much space wide - too much time to think, and too much room to kick the ball into and chase.
He’s best football came under Van Gaal when he was forced to be instinctive and more decisive with the ball in congestion in the center of the pitch, close to goal.
See, I think the opposite. I think his best output for us has been up front. I think hes too selfish to play on the wing (obviously that can change). I think his bet games were for instance, vs Chelsea at home last season or when he broke into the team and was up top (eg vs Arsenal). His movement stretches play. Id personally like to see a front two of him and Lukaku at times especially if we are chasing the game.
Id like to see the numbers on him with regards to crossing, especially this season. I dont remember awesome game that makes me think, yeah, hes a winger.
Definitely this. From the bench or otherwise, if we need impact I'm a bit more confident Rashford will deliver and affect more of the game.
I don't think he is a winger really either, but I think his direct play is useful on the left.
Good impact sub to have on Saturday I think it’s one of the issues at the moment .Martial Rashford and Lingard all seem to more of an influence on the field when they come off the bench rather than starting.

Not sure what chance he has with the rest of the 11. Hope for the best but it's not a fairr game to throw him back in and hope he can make a difference (or anyone in our attack). The rest of the lineup just isn't going to give them the platform to attack from.

I’m watching sky coverage and Sheringham was asked what would Rashford bring into the team today. He said he was a exciting talent. It got me thinking, what do pundits mean by exciting talent.

At this age he's already scored braces against Liverpool and Arsenal, scored away against City in 15/16, contributed to winning the EL, scored at home against Chelsea last season.

The guy is going to go down as a legend for us. Scored winners against arsenal, Liverpool and Man City now in his young career already and will only add to that. Brilliant today. He was looking better and better the last month or 2 with his subs, and today was fantastic. Think he suits Sanchez the way he plays more then martial.
