Jesus.

He did very well to make something out of it.
Which is what I meant - his first, second and third touch were great on that occasio but it's the final product where he cocked up. Around the 27th minute he got the ball, controlled it really well then put in a piss poor cross. Credit to him for his effort tonight though, isolated for so long and some kind of illness. But it was a one-on-one.

He did the best he could when we went down to 10 men and gave us the only moment of excitement, his control and first touch need to tighten up though, too slack at times during that first 30 minutes when he got into decent areas.

Thought he looked bright all night, and a threat for the full 90 which is something considering the position we were in with 10 men and how isolated he got late on.

Honestly with how our season has gone, I would have been shocked if he scored that.

Our players just can't finish the easy chances at all.

Superb work done to get the chance, but then fluffs it. Sums up our season so far really.

Extremely tough challenge for him out there tonight but thought he did really well. Think Jose will take a lot from that and be very happy with him.

Shame about the chance but that's life. Glad to see him continue his development under Mourinho.

When you're down to 10 and chasing the game, you ideally need a striker capable of holding the ball up and waiting for supported arrive, but you can't expect him to do that as it's not his game. He did well in the circumstances.

He tricked Cahill and got a decent look for a shot. He did very well, it's not easy 1on1 with a defender like that.

He did the best he could in difficult circumstances. Didn't show any signs of being ill though, unless it was just a 24 hour bug or purely mind games from Mourinho.

Not sure if he has the mental game to 'improve' his consistency with regards to touch, decision making etc but he definitely has the heart for it.

He could have easily gone into hiding but he worked and worked. That can only be a great thing. Hopefully we see more Rashford on the pitch centrally.

Martial needs to learn this.

In a nutshell. The fact that I didn't even flinch when he missed it is really telling.

He didnt exactly fluff the chance though. It was a decent save. I do think he should have lifted it cos you know the keeper is going to get down. Its a shame he didnt score but everything before that was right. Cahill imo blocks it if Rashford goes on his right foot.

Cahill defended it perfectly, he showed him.to his left foot only. Was actually very good defending in the end. Thought maybe he could have just slid it down the keepers right though. Good save all the same

Was fantastic tonight, and tonight he shown what he brings different to Ibra, which is superb energy and pace. Even with 10 men, where he was up top on his own, he gave Chelsea problems.

A shame he didn't finish his one chance, but overall, I thought he was really good, and look forward to seeing him play in our next game.

I thought he was great tonight. Worked hard and made the most of the little he saw of the ball, real zip and focus about him.

Yeah, might need to see a replay again, but I think cahill was trying to do just that. Think the finish is more hindsight than anything. I think the keeper needs credit for getting down like he did to get it away. Just a shame it wasnt a goal.

Back to Rashford, has it been said what was wrong with him in terms of illness? Given the circumstances, and being a lone man for over an hour, his closing down and work was great. Do think he needs to add some strength (eg the time I think it was Kante just brushed him off the ball), but people keep forgetting hes not even 20.

did as well as he could tonight.

Did so well to create that chance for himself and only heroic goalkeeping from chelsea keeper stopped a great equaliser.

Worked his socks off as always, and had the one good run but today more or less shows why he isn't ready to lead the line. Not blaming him for missing the chance he created, but that's pretty much the only thing he did all game. He works hard but doesn't have the composure or intelligence yet to really lead the line on his own. Can't compete physically with anyone, is non-existent in the air (and literally turns his back on high balls most of the time which is annoying), and doesn't have much hold up play because he just gets pushed off of it. Hopefully he learns, but he is way more suited to playing off another player as playing alone up top he is just too weak.

I was impressed with him tonight. Once he develops some upper body strength and varies his finishing I believe he'll be a very dangerous player.

Can't argue with that at all tbh. He's obviously miles away from being a Diego Costa type that can lead the line on his own. He'll pose an occasional threat in a game with his pace but it may mean us surrendering the ball to the opposition a lot in the process given his lack of strength, aerial presence and the dark arts of the game that come with experience

We played a back 6 without any semblance of actually trying to play some proper football and Rashford often didn't have a teammate within a mile of him. Ibra would have been absolutely shite tonight along with just about anyone you stuck up there.

In the end the lad was isolated but still created our only proper chance of the game. Shame he couldn't finish it. He'll get that composure with experience.

its hard to blame him as he got almost zero service today. sure he should/could have scored there but thats it.

nothing special today but he is not to blame for anything today. hope he keeps his head up and doesnt let this missed chance get into his mind. good lad i hope he can do anything against rostov

I thought he was very good. His speed and sharp turns asked them tough questions and he kept fighting a lost battle on his own in the second half.

I really enjoyed that performance. Another couple like that with a goal here or there and he'll have shown Mourinho he's a credible Plan B up front.

I think he earned himself a lot of credit in a situation he could never hope to win.

If nothing else he deserves a proper appreciation of the hard work he put in, hopefully it gets rewarded with a goal in the next couple of games.

Tough game for him but still a really strong performance. Still has a few things to develop but I'm sure that he's aware of this and will improve himself.

Did really well pressing from the front, in fact, he led the press better than any United CF I've seen in ages (maybe ever...).

His speed and aggressiveness in the press really highlighted something we've been missing with Zlatan all season, and will continue to as long as he starts every game and plays 90 mins.

I actually think that press from the front suited the team and Rashford was bossing it chasing down Cahill.

It's a shame we didn't get to play 11 v 11 as I reckon he would've scored.

Was trying hard but was lacking that bite. Too lightweight, should've bullied Luiz into mistakes instead of giving up on every 50/50 challenge.

He had nothing to work with, he did well but should have delayed his shot a little bit as Thibo was going down.

Fed on the scraps, he's in our team precisely because of his mentality. He can't be defeated in his energy and enthusiasm to chase the ball and give it all. I think Martial can take a leaf out of this playbook to be honest. It is a shame he was denied on that chance because he did so well to set it up, can't fault him for the keeper making an excellent save.

One little aside to his emergence last season is that it was probably two and a bit years to early. You can tell that he isn't physically and mentally developed enough to thrive in this environment at the moment, he is on the right track but I'd have been much happier with him out on loan this season banging goals in against championship opposition and playing every minute of every game up front.

I think it would have done his development a world more of good than to be a bit part-come-utility backup player for us this season. Just food for thought though, I think he will definitely be a capable play for us in the future.

Perhaps you are right, but he needs more opportunities to play centrally so that he can develop those skills. He has been playing all season as a winger, so he deserves a lot of credit for the work he did tonight.

An excellent effort, all things considered. He's learning all the time. I think he's not too far off becoming our #1 striker, especially after Zlatan is through.

Impressive, great effort, played with heart and fiery attitude of no fear.

For once, he looks convincing leading the line, in his own unique way of playing.

Took his chances well, by being professional in attendance, i.e. making himself available despite the small illness.

Our diamond in the rough:drool:future is bright.

Haha, are you serious? Cahill gut punked hard.

think a sharp Rashford puts that away

sadly Mourinho has barely given him an opportunity at 9 - against Arsenal/Blackburn all season?

this season has been a poor one for Rashford in my opinion based on Jose's selections.... Rashford should have had much more time at 9
