He was turning up in 3-5 cl games a season and embarrassing himself week in week out in La Liga. He is one of the main reasons Real struggle in the league defensively. He was benched by Coentrao, benched by Real's current LB.

He was a huge piece in 4 Champions League titles. I'd say that turned out quite well for them..

He wasn’t a huge piece in La Decima. Only started one game in the knockouts, vs Schalke in the round of 16. Got benched by Coentrão then.

But yes, key player in the other three and truly remarkable in the past two.

A colleague of mine met Marcelo a couple of years back and said he couldn't believe it was a pro athlete he had met. He was small and chubby.

I’m not sure it’s just that, physically he looks a shadow of his former self.

Not sure if he needs a new challenge or he’s actually finished but it’s been painful to watch him this season.

He must leave Real Madrid to find that out.

Incredible player - probably the best LB I've seen in my lifetime, not quite old enough to remember Carlos but I hear quite a majority of them rate Marcelo over Carlos anyway.

They were both great. Roberto Carlos was better IMHO but Marcelo is a close second.
I'd say he is underrated because not enough credit was given to him and Carvajal, while too much credit was given to Ronaldo.

Probably my favorite full back I've ever watched. Absolutely freakishly gifted and at his peak could have probably been one of the best wingers in the world if he wanted to but instead played fullback and formed possibly the greatest left side of an attack in the history of the game.
