As mentioned before: he's really versatile. He's not perfect in any position but can do a job everywhere and I think he has so far. Good enough for a perma move? Not sure. He's better than VdB and McT but we'll have to add some more quality in CM even if he was staying.

I think he's good when he's not playing with McTominay in a 2. As with any other player

Not good enough is my opinion and I stand by it. Rather have that chap from Southampton.

He played the same next to Fred though and Eriksen doesn’t seem to have these problems when partnered next to any of our midfielders.

Our midfield is in a bit of a weird position.

VDB needs to go, and it's about time Mctominay is moved on. Fred can stick around another season as a squad option but also someone we should be replacing in the medium term.

We need in the summer someone who is genuine first 11 quality to partner Casemiro to help us control games (which is why ETH wanted FDJ on top of Eriksen last summer). And we also need competent DM who can deputise for Casemiro when he's not playing.

Sabitzer doesn't fulfil either role. From what we've seen from Sabitzer so far he's not first 11 quality to partner Casemiro in helping us control games, and he's not a DM who can deputise for Casemiro.

To me, it's probably a waste of a signing. Unless he's far better than what he's shown thus far.

He is what I expected from Vdb, even the late runs to the box. If Bayern ask for too much then give Donny another chance.

Austrian John O’Shea. We should sign him at the right price but Bayern should feck off if they want anything north of £25 million.

Really hope we don’t. Same age group as our first three midfielders, and he doesn’t really add anything we don’t have already.

If it’s a straight swap for him to be McTominay’s replacement (in terms of squad status) — sure. But is he trading Bayern’s bench for ours?

To be fair he wasn't even on Bayerns bench anymore so being a sub for us would be a better career move for him.

I'm leaning towards yes, but I have to see how the new ownership situation ends up being. For 18m its a no brainer to me, but if we have serious money to spend and are able to get a younger player in that does a little of what we're still missing like you said, I'd prefer that as well. Although I'd like him as a backup for the CAM position.

I like him but I need to see more games with him starting. We seem to have so many midfielders who specialize in being far more effective up the pitch. Talk of him or potentially Rabiot joining is good but i'm not sure they're the type of players that can dictate games.

I think Ten Hag will bring in 2 midfielders this summer, Sabitzer will be one of them.

I'd rather we solved all big issues first, then we can go for another squad player. Seems like we have a few if those in midfield area so I don't think that's a high priority so either way it goes it'll be fine.

When Eriksen got injured, ETH knew that Sabitzer would be useful as a utility player, covering for Casemiro at 6, and to share number 8 duties with Fred.

This summer, I expect ETH to spend big on a first choice number 8 (eg FDJ) and to sign a Casemiro backup, either Rabiot on a free, or someone we've likely never heard of, maybe like when he signed Malacia from the Dutch league

ideal midfielder moves for me would be

1 - sign first choice to replace Eriksen (move Eriksen to squad role)
2 - sign Casemiro back-up

then Sabitzer would be a nice squad option to have if we can move on at least two of Fred, McTominay & DVB

Eriksen seems to be criminally underrated here, our drop in play since he got injured is evident, he was a catalyst.

For £15-20m I'd definitely sign him. He's a decent footballer and we don't have enough of those.

Donny needs to go. Mctominay needs to move on too as this level is above his talent.

I think he already struggles to last 90 in CM especially in tougher games, and would rather a starter who can cope with that

I'd bet on Sabitzer and Lavia

If that’s our progression to try and win this league and progress in Europe. We are just side stepping.

They guy could play for Villa and fit in perfect. He’s not United quality.

Lavia is who we should buy over Sabitzer.

Eriksen was being overused according to some, but the reasons for that are blindingly clear.

Intelligent movement and use of the ball is always going to be better than having headless chickens like Fred, McT and this guy Sabitzer running around the place.

Eriksen did very well at times, but he also showed some weaknesses that were an issue.

The main issue was stamina. Even when he's fresh he seemed to drop off quite significantly after 60-70 minutes, and for the last month or two before his injury he seemed to have run himself into the ground and he was struggling quite a bit throughout most games. The other was that he did tend to struggle a bit in high intensity matches where the opposition was pressing hard.

It'd be great to have someone better than Eriksen to come in and be 1st choice, but we at least need someone of a similar level who can alternate with him.

That itself makes me question how much use we'd get out of Sabitzer. Ideally we'd have Casemiro, a back-up DM, Eriksen, Eriksen alternative, and one other. We've currently got Fred, Sabitzer and McTominay who would all be competing for that last spot, and Sabitzer hasn't yet shown any reason why he'd be ahead of Fred (indeed he's been closer to Scott's level IMO). If we manage to sign a midfielder who is suitable to play either with or instead of Casemiro (so the back-up DM and Eriksen alternative in one player) then maybe we could keep both Fred and Sabitzer, but otherwise it'd be just the one.

I honestly think he’s alright. He’s a good squad option, our squad is just thin and depleted as feck. As a bench option, he does a job. Just depends whether he’s happy being on the bench (like at Bayern).

Eriksen was being overused ie. He got tired. The guy was out on his feet before he got injured. A fit and energised Eriksen will be huge for us.

Not for me, i'd rather go for Tielemens (or equivalent).
Rabiot and Tielemans for free as cover for Casemiro and Eriksen would allow us to sell McT, Fred and DVB and keep our budget for the other positions (striker, goalkeeper, etc). This gives us the opportunity to monitor the kids like Mainoo and see if they have first team potential, squad level, or move them on.

Still not convinced whether we should sign him. If we go into next season with Case, Eriksen, Bruno and 1 of Fred/Mct. Then expect to buy a proper 8 to replace/challenge Eriksen, whilst potentially giving Mejbri a chance, i'm not sure whether we 100% need Sabitzer. If we sell Mct and can replace him with Sabitzer for cheaper then I guess its good for depth. But i'd probably prefer to spend that money on a good young DM to be backup to Case.

Me too. Ideal midfield looks something like this for me.

Starters: Top no.8* + Casemiro
12th man: Eriksen
Rotational players: Fred; New no.6; Mainoo/whichever young kid

Sabitzer only if we feck off McTominay and DvB.

* = a player whose strengths are passing the football around and adding something to ensure that we are better at retaining possession. Frenkie is the prototype, someone of similar equivalence.

Seems a decent addition to the squad, at least he is an ETH man, which is key for me. Extend loan deal and let him prove himself, because he has arrived at an awkward time. I would like to see more of him alongside Casimero, that's a decent defensive midfield two. I trust Sabitzer, rather than SMT, or Fred who despite some improvements, need to move on because our ambitions, expectations and mentality under ETH is far, far different from OGS. I don't see 'winners' in Fred or SMT, and Eriksen and Casimero have come in and exposed this. Man Utd should not be granting players favours, year, after year, after year.

But there are some good options out there.. Tielemans, Ward Prowse.. Brentford, Brighton.. these clubs have midfielders better than Fred and McT. We need to set aside sentiment and upgrade on those two. Sabitzer stays (on loan, or a v realistic fee..) imo.

Casemiro backup is more important for me. We get a good level out of Eriksen or Fred as long as they are next to a DM. We get a horrible level once casemiro is out or rested. The best way to prolong Casemiro's prime is to rest him properly. A positionally sound DM is a must, and if we can't afford a starting CM on top then we get someone like sabitzer and sell off McTominay and Donny. Fred, Eriksen or sabitzer next to casemiro or new DM to be the midfield 2, Eriksen can also backup Bruno so we'd always have decent cover.

Im not convinced yet. If the new owners are in and splashing the cash then sure why not, he does a job, but if we’re managing our budget carefully under the glazers then £20 million on a squad player who doesn’t replace what either Erikson or Casemiro bring to the team then I wouldn’t bother.
