Sell McTominay for 15m and pay 10m for Sabitzer and we’ve upgraded our depth in midfield.
I just don’t get the hate for Mctominay, he was injured most of last season, is scoring goals for Fun for Scotland playing in his correct position which is a BTB 8 and he’s homegrown academy product, would keep Scott, get rid Of Fred and DVB, M Mount is Fred Replacement and Sabitzer at £10m would be DVB replacement, we still need a young 6/8 unless ETH faith in K Mainoo in which case play the kid.

It's interesting how he put up better numbers than Szobolai at Leipzig before the goals dried up as soon as he went to a top team.

We do need, however, to move McTominay out. I’m not a hater, but he just needs to go. I’m worried that Eriksen is in free fall athletically. Fred can still do a job for us, but I trust Sabitzer with the ball more than I trust Fred with the ball. We do need cover for Casemiro, but our midfield isn’t set just with the addition of cover for Casemiro.

That said, I’m not sure who in the youth squad is ready to step up. Maybe Mainoo, but I have no idea.
I agree that we should sell McTominay. Eriksen is perfectly fine as a squad player. Fred looks likely to be sold and Mainoo can step up and be our 4th choice number 8 option. That only leaves cover for Casemiro as a big must for our midfield.

He had a different role at Bayern than at Leipzig and played far less.

At Leipzig Szoboszlai had Laimer and Schlager behind him who are "pressing monsters". Let's see how it works at Liverpool were he has to "work", too.

He did well for us and looked capable of stepping in at 6, 8 and 10. I don’t think he would be a waste of money because he gives us those options and is better than certain others at the club.

However I don’t think he’s quite good enough to provide genuine competition for Casemiro, Mount or Bruno so he doesn’t pass my “good purchase” test.

Good player, though.

The fact that some actually want him on a permanent deal after watching him here is insane. Whenever he did play, Sabitzer would average around 30 touches a match and make around 25 passes of which most were just sideways or layoffs.

He is physical, nice touch, pretty good in the air, and has a cracking shot on him. But that’s about it. I don’t think he has any of the fundamentals needed for a top level central midfield. Certainly didn’t show it here.

He’ll do alright at a weaker club with lesser expectations, I’d expect.

Going purely off his time here, Sabitzer was no better than Scott (indeed he had the same huge weakness of barely getting involved), and Scott provides better cover in our weakest midfield position. Scott also came through our own academy and obviously helps fill the homegrown quota. He's also on lower wages than Sabitzer would probably want.

I really don't rate Scott at all and want him sold, but exchanging him for Sabitzer is a side-grade at best, if not a downgrade. Let alone Fred who is comfortably the best of the lot of them (albeit Scott proves better cover for Casemiro).

Agree. Sabitzer wasn't any sort of upgrade, and most importantly only wants to leave Bayern to be a starter somewhere. He won't get that here, so we'd have the classic risk of someone coming for sky high wages, not really being that happy with their role.

Any McFred replacements have to actually be proper upgrades.

Don’t dislike Sabitzer, good value if the price is as quoted. But I’d rather go after his teammate Gravenbirch given that he only played a handful of games last season. We need a player with physical presence capable of covering at 6 when Casemiro isn’t available.

Would definitely prefer McTom instead of Sabitzer, if we don't get any DM. If we do get DM, then it's flip a coin between the two.

To be fair, at just over £10million it's a fairly low risk signing if we move on a midfielder or 2 but I wouldn't rush into it.

Last season two of our biggest problems were fatigue and players being out of action for one reason to another. While Sabitzer wouldn't be a starter he would be a cheap way to add depth in midfield and considering Eriksens fitness dropped massively in the latter part of the season while Mount missed a significant part of last season, having an extra body makes a lot of sense.

He was a disappointment, not only in his play but his fitness. When you bring someone in because others are injured, only for that player to be totally unreliable its a bit of a waste of time.

For me we have to raise the level whereas Sabitzer is someone who maintains it. And by it I mean our usual loitering around a top 4 challenge / place.

I thought Sabitzer was much better in attack than Fred, McT or VDB, his shooting is excellent and looked really lively in and around the box, could easily be used as an auxiliary forward. In actual midfield play think he was easily the equal if not better of those 3, if we are talking about moving those 3 on including their wages off our books and can replace with Sabitzer for sub £20m and save substantially on wages then I would be all for it.

This, about his fitness, is a good point. Might have just been a little run of bad luck but would be enough to worry me. I do rate him above McFred, he’s cleverer and a proper jack of all trades (master of none, of course) but if he’s going to be injured a lot it won’t be worth signing him.

Given we have Mount, if we’re signing any more midfielders, we need a no6 to properly compete with Casemiro and who can fill in at no8 if required.

Fred is a much better player … seriously. It was because of the intensity and forward thrust Fred have us that enabled us to beat Barcelona. Sabitzer is a good deal slower but better against deep teams

We were holding him back all along. Sign him up for another loan.

What was the point in this? You’ll gain absolutely nothing pummelling a side clearly nowhere near the same level. It won’t really build fitness levels either as I imagine they’d have been permanently camped in the oppositions final third the entire game.

It's a charity game. They do one every year.

it’s the perfect preparation for games against everyone except dortmund in the budesliga.

More than a bit knobbish of Bayern to rack up a scoreline that high.
Smashing a group of amateurs in a charity game. Miserable bastards
Sir Alex used to say you show respect to your opponent by scoring as many as you can, and not backing off or taking it easy. Useless assholes couldn’t even score 30…..

I really don't care if this was a fundraising event for the worthiest cause on the planet. This was a mismatch unlike anything mankind has ever seen. And even if Bayern had no idea how weak the opposition was, Bayern should have stopped scoring after they reached the teens. Let the ticket-paying fans watch the other side play the ball here and there.

So cringe. On the same level as Michael Owen blasting penalties at a 13 year old...

Bayern trying to hide their chronic insecurities aside, Sabitzer is pretty shit and was on par with Sweinstiger for us. Not someone we really should consider bringing back when there’s better players available or already in the team.

Bayern thought they were playing against their sons UEFAlona?

On Sabitzer, we don’t need him. We have a way better player in Mount.

I watched the highlights on YouTube, the defending was absolutely dreadful. I know there’s a monster gap between the sides but Bayern didn’t even look like they were trying that hard. I bet we could assemble a more competitive 11 here on the cafe

It's just a fun occasion for the home team and their fans.

I liked the look of Sabitzer, good on the ball, eye for a quick defense splitter, good shot. He got injured before he really hit top form. If we could sign him for a nominal fee, I’d be for it. Fred has to go. Beek might actually look decent in a real EtH side, do t know if we’ll find out. Sabitzer is good backup.
