Marc Cucurella - World Class Hairdo

Andy Mitten seems to rate him highly having followed him since his Barca B days and then at Getafe. If you can give Mason Mount a pass for a cluster feck of a season at Chelsea, why not him?
I am not at all convinced about Mount but at least we've seen him play well at Chelsea, PL and CL.

Not having him. He’s an aesthetically pleasing player who has been found out to be not a very good left back. Would genuinely rather have kept Telles.

The season started and I suppose the loan stops after the last competitive game so it's maybe calculated on 40ish weeks or so (?)
If the fee is a way to pay his wages upfront, that's fine. If we have to shoulder them on top of that (I imagine United can't exactly plead poverty or a stringent wage structure) it's a little rich. But beggars can't be choosers...

Not bothered how they calculate the timeframe as long as we wouldn’t be covering his wages on top, otherwise £7m is a bad deal even if we negotiate it to around £5m fee

Is Shaw dead or something? If he’s going to return within the next 4-6 weeks as rumored then what’s the point of spending significant amount of money on replacing him with Cucurella?

I think the most logical inference is that Shaw and Malacia may be out for a little while.

Shaw the most pessimistic talk is maybe out until 2024. Malacia we don't really know. AWB, Dalot and Fernandez (if he's even part of the plan) is both light and risky if for too long.

We can’t clear our own deadwood but seem to be hoovering up Chelsea’s deadwood
Gonna happen to Chelsea a lot when they pay extortionate fees and tie down players on 8 year contracts.

Can you imagine us having to field Cucurella - Maguire - Lindelof - Dalot in the same game? :nervous:
Even with Martinez instead of Maguire it's a slow and physically weak back 4. Cucurella has usually played in a 5.

If we pay 7m + his wages then we deserve the bad performances he would give.

This is shaping to be a terrible transfer window.

He's most likely out until December.

- Hannibal, I am signing your brother!
- I don’t have a br…
- HEH!

Was really good at Brighton and cost Chelsea a lot of money (City also bid for him)

Doubt we’ll get a better LB option on loan

Looking forward to a Maguire--Cucurella left side defensive partnership.

The worrying thing obviously is that Poch didn’t try to keep him or play him at all. Obviously he is better than the other options but there are a lot of question marks on him as well.

I’m happy with him but nothing will make our season go better than an additional midfielder.

Talk of Chelsea wanting £7m (and his high wages) is a lot of money when we seem to have very little. £20m probably gets you Amrabat. But this potential deal now looks certain to put a nail in a the new DM coffin.

If we need to sign a LB (which really depends on the prognosis of the injured players) then my preference would be a loan, as there's no benefit to tieing ourselves long term to someone we don't really want. And LB definitely isn't enough of a priority this summer to warrant the sort of money we'd have to pay for someone we would want long term.

And of the loan options mentioned, Cucurella would be my preferred choice. Simply because we only have to hope last season was a one-off outlier and then he seems a fine choice. Whereas the likes of Alonso/Reguilon have proven themselves to be sub-par over multiple seasons.

I've seen Tagliafico mentioned as an option but my understanding is that he spent his last season under ETH as second choice to Daley Blind. Which hardly fills me with confidence.

I think a lot of the complaining about this move would be eased if people knew we were going to get a midfielder in as well. Because unless the loan fee is extortionate there's really very little downside.

what I find funny about these reports is that personal terms on loans are limited, maybe covering accommodation and travel only from experience? (league 2 only I admit). Mostly relates to the covering of wages which will be dealt with by the club.

Amazing how efficient we can be when we want to be

I see Caf have to be miserable about literally every transfer. I personally look forward to the lad coming here and maybe regain his amazing from from Brighton.

Feck it, I'm all in on this guy. Just happy that we're getting someone new in. I like shiney things.
