Manchester United Women - Silly Season 2023/24 - Ins and outs

It's good news for us - not just in terms of the player, but in terms of what it means for the team. The Geyse signing has been rumoured since May, it's nice seeing it happening. Shopping on the top shelf!

Yes, its finally showing some ambition to everyone inside United and also to the outside world.

I wonder if the club has been affected by the current popularity of the World Cup, I mean its literally cooking with interest! Not saying United were not going to sign anyone, but maybe it just motivated the club to pull up some cash if they see the potential of cash to me made later on with the womens team? I dont really care as long as we keep it up

Now, if United can bribe the stockholm political brass to upgrade Hammarbys current stadium that is too small, then United can have Kyra Cooney-Cross for free! Would hate to see her at Chelsea along with her Hammarby teammate Maika Hamano :-(

A really interesting signing in Geyse as she's such a different striker to Russo. I'm really looking forward to seeing her and what she can do. Hopefully we can get another CF in as Geyse, Thomas & Williams isn't enough for the CL and WSL. Daly would be very obvious upgrade to Thomas along with being cover at left back for Blundell. This would be much better than using Thoresdottir as full back cover.

Didn't someone say that Daly is Millie's ex and that could be the reason we aren't interested

Daly has a binding contract with Aston Villa who just finished behind United and the top 4. I assume they would have zero interest in selling a player who scored almost 3 times as many goals as Russo to a direct rival? Probably United would have to pay a MEGA BIG transfer fee for it to be even remotely possible, and Daly is getting up there in age. I think those reasons might be a bigger issue than Dalys previous dating life :-) Not sure how strict Skinner would look at relationships and ex-romances etc, but of course it could be an additional factor.

I would not want to wait til January, we need quality ASAP! Guess they will ask for a Manchester United fee to release her now!

The cheek of it

Its hilarious Chelsea wants to grab so many players and just have them in the squad :D

But seriously, the club who put in the bid, they did really expect United to sell? Do they see us as weak financially or just without ambition?

Why else would we consider selling the arguable best keeper in the world?

I know she is out of contract, but if we sell her we might as well wave the white flag and roll over!

I got to add that with Earps her contract expiring comes exactly after she put in a monster performance during the recent international tournament, just like with Russo. Making it much more expensive to keep her!

The current highest fee for a GK is below £50k.
Exactly.. United wouldn't be able to go on a spending spree with the extra cash, we'd just be struggling to replace a keeper this year rather than next year.

Yeah, now I doubt the offer is that low. But there isn't a fee that will find another Earps or improve the squad in other areas to soften her loss.

Hopefully they can get a new deal sorted with Mary.

This is becoming a recurring issue where the stronger teams are trying to maintain a status quo by buying up the best players from their competitors. I hope she signs a new contract but that feels unlikely with the way things are going right now.

United turning the womens team to a global thing with Brazilian and Japanese players, a good way to expand the fanbase also :-)

Very interesting. With Geyse, I wonder how we are thinking of setting up. Miyazawa scored for fun in the WC, but normally I believe she is a midfielder? Her goal count for Verdy Tokyo and Mynavi Sendai are not of the striker variety. However, she was MVP two years in a row in the Japanese WE league at a very young age, so exciting!

So Kerolins clubs refusing to sell before the american season has ended, corrrect? Which means her arrival would be in the january transfer window if things go as planned!

It is very exciting news indeed. She is first and foremost a midfielder, but she will always find ways to create havoc on the attack. Back in the 2018 U20 WWC, she was a key playmaker while Saori Takarada (who unfortunately did not play much in 2023 for some reason) and Rino Ueki banged the goals on the way to the title.

Sounds promising. Still makes me wonder how a first 11 will look if we manage to bring in Kerolin as well.

We’ll have Toone, Miyazawa and Keroline, all sort of attacking midfielders, and Zelem /Bø Risa who are bothe stronger creatively than defensively as well. DM and wingers are a bit less covered it seems?

Earps
Riviere Le Tissier Turner Blundell
Kerolin Ladd/Naalsund Zelem/Toone
Miyazawa Geyse Galton

???

It doesn't seem as if Kerolin will come until January, if at all. I would imagine the aim would be to bring in full back cover and maybe another midfielder before the window is done, I maybe would have liked to have seen more depth added at number 9 and more quality at centre back but it's difficult to get everything. It will likely look like:
Earps
Riviere Le Tissier Turner Blundell
Two of Ladd, Zelem, Naalsund and a new midfielder (probably Zelem and Ladd given Skinner trusts them but I think with Batlle gone the team needs more dynamism and ball carrying through the middle then they offer)
Toone
Miyazawa/Parris/Garcia Geyse Galton

Kyra Cooney-Cross plays for my club in sweden Hammarby so I know she is a terrific prospect. Her contract with Hammarby expires in about 8-10 games and then every club will go after her. Hammarby does not have the finances to keep her obviously.

The question is if any club would pay a bigger transfer fee to Hammarby immediately now to not have competition from other clubs after her contract has expired. That could be a real smart move. Not sure if Hammarby would sell as we fight for Champions league qualifying spots and also the league title. I guess it would have to be a decent bid to let her go immediately. United did buy Lotta Ökvist from Hammarby before, so at least the clubs have negotiated before.

With signing, do they mean the clubs would sign her to a contract that starts after her time with Hammarby is done in november? Is that allowe? Or they just assume Hammarby will release/sell her without any fuss with immediate effect?

With Australia playing in the semis and final/bronze game she will attract even more clubs.

Great news if true!

WSL transfer deadline is on Thursday 14 September. Looks like Miyazawa (if it happens) will be the last addition for United.

I like our squad, although we're still a bit light on the fullback positions. One injury and we've got a CB playing out wide again. I genuinely hope if that happens we'll give Rabjohn a chance as she's apparently more comfortable playing as a FB than the other CBs we've got.

Did they manage to get Cooney-Cross in?
Miyazawa would be great too.
What about the player they were linked with from the US, Brazilian player? Apologies I cannot recall her name.

Not yet, but even if we did sign her the move would most likely happen in January. Kerolin seems happy in North Carolina so I doubt she'd move before January either.
