Buttner and Young. Urgh. I'm going to sellotape some newspaper to my TV that perfectly blocks out the left side of the pitch.

CONFIRMED MUFC XI:

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Evans
Buttner

Young
Jones
Giggs
Januzaj

Kagawa
Rooney

SUBS: Lindegaard, Cleverley, Anderson, Valencia, Nani, Hernandez, van Persie.

Like Jones and Giggs in CM. Say the right side is Rafael & Januzaj, well that is just jizzworthy and shows the future of the club. But that is tapered by the left side, Buttner & Young, urgh a disgusting pairing.

Very nice lineup, very attacking. Young, Januzaj, Kagawa and Rooney are all capable of interchanging throughout. Surely expecting to see Kagawa mostly through the middle behind Rooney, but still drifting all over, should do damage tonight.

Very confident. Been mostly very good to quality in Europe so far.

Buttner has to be picked as he's the only cover for Evra who can't play every week. No issues with it for me for now but it shows we do NEED another full back so hopefully Baines or Contreroa will be signed in January. As much as people bring him up Fabio is clearly not rated as a left back by Moyes and I'm afraid Fergie was the same as he played him as a right back after trying him at left. It might just be that he really is not cut out to be a left back.

I'm disappointed Young is getting a game ahead of Nani who clearly needs a real run of games and who could be a match winner for this side. This is not the time for constant rotation of the wingers. Young can get a run out in the league cup.

Other than that, Januzaj, Kagawa, Rooney and the midfield pairing are about the best we could play in this match and I'm glad RVP has not been risked.

Hopefully Rio "80 percent" Ferdinand gets his finger out tonight. Been shocking this season.

Yup, him and Young (as shit as he is) have been awful whenever they've played, and even if they're not that great anymore or at their best, they can still be decent players. Young is a lot better then what he's shown, he just needs to stop diving everytime he gets the ball and try something else other then cutting in at the edge of the box and crossing in. Buttner is good at overlapping, but non-existant defensively, so Young will help with that. It's funny, it's like we're picking our left winger for his defensive ability and our left back for his attacking abilities

If they don't sit off us like Sociedad and Leverkusen then this could be very difficult.

I still don't understand what we're trying to with the defence, I get that this match means less but it's a further example of a constantly changing backline. How can you expect any of the players to develop some degree of partnership if it changes every single game?

Where is Fabio? Seriously, why has he not featured? Is he shit?

Said it a million times, his last two managers at United don't rate him as a left back. Fergie moved him to right back(where I was impressed) and never considered him a left back again. Moyes obviously thinks the same.

We have plenty of right back cover and a good first team regular so he tends to miss out.

It's getting on for four years since he last played a game for United at left back. That should tell it's own story.

I think Moyes is giving Young a last chance as Nani and Valencia aren't playing really good so hope Young works out.

Always said Buttner would be a better option on the wing, than at left back. Not that he's good enough to play as a winger at United but his attacking abilities are actually not too bad, whereas defensively he's a disaster.

As long as Kagawa plays in his favorite position the rest matters little. Even if we of course would be several times better with Fabio-Nani on one side and Rafael-Januzaj on the other. Must be something personal to keep the first 2 out.

It's pointless though really as even if Young has a decent game we all know he's not good enough to play here on a consistent basis. Maybe putting him in the shop window ahead of January.

Not a bad line-up really considering we are already through and what injuries we have. Is this Kagawa's third start in four now? Looks to have improved slightly in terms of his overall performances in that time too, finding some individual form now and confidence from Moyes.

The rotation, and showing off the depth of squad excuse is a bit worrying. 6 changes from the weekend, whereas the weekends team had like 8 changes from the Everton game. Far too much rotation, and possibly one of the reasons why the team struggle.

Not sure on the point of Young, as others have said need to get some consistency there, we've tried Valencia there a fair bit should be Nani's turn to get an extended run, hopefully Nani is being rested, would be ridiculous if he's out after the toon game. Buttner isn't ideal but makes sense to rest Evra, surprised at no Fellaini, but he could still be injured. He's another that could use a run, I mean I don't mind Giggs playing but it can't help Clev/Fellaini being so in and out as well.

Otherwise good team.

Can't help but feel we should've saved Giggs for the weekend, but tonight should be an enjoyable watch.

I was hoping that we might have used tonight's game to field test some new approach but that would appear not to be the case.

In isolation it should hopefully be competitive enough although an opportunity lost i feel.

Yup, he hasn't been spectacular in the league, but has still played better then all of our other wingers bar Januzaj, and he's looked good to very good behind Rooney. The one game he missed out on was because he had his stomach pumped as well, probably why he got subbed off against Everton too.

Well, here's a chance for Young on the right. Can't remember the last time we saw him there, no excuses for slowing down attacks to pull it back onto his better foot and whipping it in. Big night for him methinks, most likely one of his last appearances in the shop window before being peddled off somewhere in January.

As with my last post, I still believe he's talented, but clearly lacks the application for a top team.

We have one on the pitch playing out of position though. Any problems and we'll shove Jones back there.

Yeah, we've done similar in the past this season (no defenders on bench but ones out of position in starting lineup like Smalling at RB who can move to CB if injury there, or Valencia slotting in at RB or Jones moving wherever).

Can't say we're not giving chances to players. There are guys in that team with big question marks over them and they need to prove why they're still here.

Giggs and Jones need to be at it tonight because Shaktar have speed. We can't afford to give away possession and not provide cover for the defence,

Young aside, that's what I expected given the fitness of Van Persie, Fellaini, Vidic and Evra.

No point hoping Young performs anymore...we know what to expect.

I highly doubt we'll see Jones and Giggs boss it as they did in Leverkusen but I hope for the best. Defence and forwards picked themselves tonight.

Buttner?

Why does he ever play? Why? Why?

Why?

It makes me sad and mad at the same time, and I'm not even cheered up by the fact that rhymed. Our left side is more or less pathetic. Moyes talks about giving Nani game time to give him confidence then benches him every other match. That's useless tactics.
