Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Think this is the game that turns the fans on the players. They’ve been very patient, and previous narrative has been the ownership and ETH. Players have nowhere to hide now. I suspect when that third Newcastle goal hits the net Old Trafford gets vitriol.

Why? We're all expecting to be beaten.

One more thing, about the CF spot.. he should stop rotating them imo. Both are shit atm, but give one of them a run of games to get into the groove(hopefully) don't care who(well kinda want Højlund, cause I don't rate Zirkzee at all, don't rate Højlund that highly either, but at least he has the physical part down..). But just give one of them like 5 games in a row (in the PL).

    Onana
De Ligt - Maguire - Martinez
    Antony - Casemiro - Mainoo - Mazraoui
    Amad - Eriksen
    Hojlund

Garnacho, Zirkzee, Dalot, Yoro and Collyer will all come on from the bench.

We've an obvious weakness at set pieces, so that needs addressing, Martinez doesn't start, Yoro, Maguire and De Ligt do. We've got to be solid but have a decent outball passer too, Mainoo is out of form and needs to be taken out. I'd go with Casemiro who works well with Ugarte as a defensive unit, is a good header of the ball to help on set pieces, and has a decent pass to start counterattacks. He also pops up in good spaces for our own set pieces. Bruno, luckily, is banned because he's hurting us more than he's helping us at the minute. I'd prefer Mazraoui to cover the lack of pace on the left with being the smarter of our 2 wing backs on that side. Dalots' lack of positional sense will hopefully be covered by Yoro on the right. Garnachos' pace is needed on the break, him and Amad behind Hojlund.

Alternatively, I'd try Antony in that LAM role on his stronger foot.

    Yoro Maguire De Ligt

    Dalot Ugarte Casemiro Mazraoui

    Amad Hojlund Garnacho

OT will be half-empty once they score their third.

Probably the best 11 to deal with Newcastle’s height and physicality. We’ll need Maguire, De Ligt and Casemiro to deal with set pieces. If we win, we’ll have to win ugly and our experienced players will have to lead the way. Captain’s armband to Maguire for the rest of the season.

I think our supporters are fair to a fault especially the match goers. I hate the players but the best response from OT would be to get behind them to boost their confidence. Amorim needs a big win here and the next 3 games can turn the season around.

Logic is make it as physical and technical as you can. Want to see Zirkzee tried in the 10 and think he, Mainoo and Maz could make an interesting, albeit one paced triangle. Balance of attack and defence on the wings with Antony and Maz. Would have rather had Case Ugarte in CM but suspension rules that out. If you think that left footers are absolutely needed on the left, could swap Antony to LWB, but that will negate much of his threat. We cannot play Martinez in this game. He will be roasted by Newcastle's physicality.

We should also have a rule of maximum 2 tiny people in the team at any one time, and so my budget is fully allocated with Amad and Antony. No space for Garnacho, Martinez or others in the 11.

Hard to be confident we're going to score a goal, so have to hope the 5 at the back can keep it tight for a 0-0

Yeah but I think it’ll be the manner of the defeat. It’s one thing losing a game 1-0 unfortunately. It’s another being beaten 3-0 at home giving up quick fire goals.

They’ll get behind them of course. Like there won’t be hostility whilst it’s 0-0. But I think deep down we all now how this is gonna go. We’ll play alright first half, look fairly comfortable. Second half will start and within about 15 mins we will have conceded a goal from a set piece, another goal quickly after and then be out of the game and that’s when the crowd will turn.

Oh, I'm absolutely expecting a 3-0 score with quickfire goals from Isak.

Just look at the number and kind of goals Newcastle have scored in their last few games, including the one against supposedly stingy Liverpool. They'll cut straight through us.

Casemiro, Eriksen and Mainoo as our midfield options is the big worry for me, no mobility at all. Brunos sending off couldn't have come at a worse time with Ugarte suspended too.

Once in 50 years Man United have lost to Newcastle in Old Trafford in a league game. (0-1 in 2013 under Moyes) going by the cafe this will be a 2nd defeat and the heaviest defeat at home to the magpies since 1972 which was 0-2.

If we get turned over here 2/3-0 like everyone expects then where do we actually go? Anfield will be a fecking nightmare. Not known United hit such lows in a long time. We just have to ride through it as things can improve very quickly, but there’s bad and then there’s being genuine relegation level. A result here would be welcome.
Mate, you are probably too young to remember the 73/74 season. That was definitely sh*t. This is on paper a better team but as Cloughie said the game is played on grass.

It feels like only a week or so ago that a top 4 place still looked possible with a good run. Now it looks a near impossibility. A run of 14-4-2 in our 20 remaining matches would give us 68 points which was the total needed for CL last season. That seems utterly implausible as a target and requires title winning form for the rest of the season.

Quite depressing that we genuinely go into this match as underdogs. Hopefully we can somehow spring a surprise and at least look a vaguely appealing option for new players in January.

Yeah Guimaraes, Tonali and Joelinton will be licking their lips at the thought of facing that

We are at home so the crowd should make it their business to help the team. It should be hostile for Newcastle whilst roaring and singing encouragement to get us going.

We need everything for a miracle.

75% of fans predicting a defeat at home to Newcastle. 70% predicting a defeat by 2 goals or more. I've seen stats like this for the Scousers and City, but it's a low ebb when confidence is this low against a team whose level we should be on.

Newcastle are in great form, have dangerous players all over the pitch and will smell blood from the off.

Ugarte is a huge loss for us, we simply have no one to replace him in the midfield.

This has another 0-3 written all over it.

Don’t even care about the result for this one. Just want to see a decent performance and some fight. This squad will go down in history as being the worst modern day Manchester United team - you’d think the players will want to challenge that but they seem content to embrace that damning fact.

United would be a hell of a lot better if they could stop doing stupid braindead things on the pitch, and gifting teams 1-2 goals.

The players shouldn't need a tactical genius to tell them that either.

Task against Newcastle...get through 90 minutes without any glaring feck ups!

I really like this. We need to get on the ball in the middle and I think Zirkzee dropping back doing his little flicks with Amad should see us get into decent positions. If we stop conceding from every second set piece we’d be fine apart from the fact we can’t score a goal either

I think what's needed at this moment is an 11 with good workrate and discipline. I'd have Mazraoui on the left and Dalot right. Maguire, De Ligt and Yoro. Casemiro and Collyer if both are fit. Then I imagine Garnacho, Rasmus and Diallo. Not the most technical but at least from an energy perspective all those players can match Newcastle for energy. The last thing I want to see is Eriksen wheeled out. Regarding not playing Martinez, we aren't really making use of his progressive passing, he's not stepping into midfield often to overload it so his advantage in passing (bar the city pass) isn't really being used. When Ugarte gets back then put one of Casemiro or Collyer (depending on how he performs) next to him.

Our centre mid options for this game are pretty awful. No Ugarte, which is a massive loss. He's been our best midfielder this season. Mainoo is out of form. Casemiro hasn't played an awful lot and is wildly inconsistent. Eriksen hasn't got the pace or stamina that we need these days. We're very short there. Looks like it's going to be Casemiro + Mainoo, then maybe Eriksen coming on as a sub for when Mainoo inevitably drops off at the hour mark.

I'd actually like to see Eriksen in one of the positions behind the striker, with Amad in the other. But, think we're going to need to use him in the centre mid position as a sub. What a headache.

Taking my ten year old son to his first game, I should be getting done for child abuse, I can see us getting absolutely smashed, this is your club for life son.
