Manchester United vs Liverpool

Ill be staying up for this one without a doubt.

I really have a feeling we will hammer them. Liverpool are still in post-Suarez depression and this is LVGs first "real" game (except we played real 2 days ago lololololol!!1) - preseason friendly means nothing when its United vs Liverpool. We are on a high at the moment and have a lot of momentum I feel. Went for 4-0 in the Match Day prediction.
Wat makes you think so? Have you recently watched any of our games?

We're missing Sturridge, Lallana, Markovic, Flannagan, .. tonight so it'll be interesting to see how we're going to line up. I really don't want to lose because it'll give you guys an extra confidence boost before the start of the season. I can already hear the "Liverpool are nothing without Suarez" comments if we are to lose tonight. That said, this is also an opportunity to show everyone that we weren't just Suarez + ten other players last year because face it, both teams will really want to win this game.

It'll be the first time I see United play under LvG and I'm curious to see how your players have adapted to the 3-5-2 system.

I admittedly havent watched much of your preseason, just the feeling I get from speaking to some fans etc.

I wouldnt go as far as to say Liverpool were just Suarez +10, but I really think without him you will struggle to get top 4 this season, and will be battling it out with Spurs and Everton for 5th place.

Let's no get carried away now. This is still a friendly and more than winning this meaningless match, I'd like to see different formations with different players being given a run to see how they perform. Change it up and learn more about the team.

Louis knows that of course. He'll try and put a line up that can get the job done but also learn something new about the squad.

I have a question guys, where is Fellaini?

You'll see a new United that moves the ball like this...

Hopefully completing his move to Napoli

I would think the opposite, actually. The same sentiment that motivates letting them leave early also motivates leaving them out this game.
Other reasons for starting players like Lingard, Zaha, Kagawa, Blackett:

1. Because Id like to see it
2. This is still preseason and the first team seems to have already gelled
3. LVG's stated aim here is to give everyone a fair chance before going into the market
4. Avoid injuries against Liverpool who will be as up for it as we will
5. Avoid a potentially confidence-sapping loss to Liverpool. We have won all of our games and have little to gain by winning another
6. Spring a surprise

Thats how I see it

Considering the players involved, I'm pretty sure it's the opposite mate. However, it does tell me Van Gaal is still undecided on where to play Young and if he'll start Hernandez next to Rooney. I'm surprised Blackett and Lingard aren't involved though. Especially after Keane starting the last game. Lingard has played very well in the few appearances he's had. I would have liked to see him get at least one start.

Don't really care if we win or not. Irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Bit like I've always been ambivalent about winning the Community Shield, in terms of whether it sets you up for a good season or not. Not always the case. Might not be the worst thing in the world to have a defeat that makes the players wake up a bit and press on. Might even spark some much needed transfer activity.

Just play well again and if we happen to lose, try not to let it be more than by a couple of goals.

Anything other than a morale crushing defeat is ok by me. We are in good form and ideally that should continue heading into the season.

I think we've been more impressive than Liverpool in pre-season so hopefully we'll win on the night.

This will be a great game, even if some first team players miss out it's still a derby. I think we should win it, our defence especially is quite pacey now and would cope well.

I would prefer we were back in Melwood rather than whoring ourselves for commercial gain and about to play you lot on a waterlogged pitch. The term "friendly" cant really be used where a match between us is concerned, all i really care about is the team not picking up any injuries.

All that said hope we twat you to win this mighty cup!

Would go with this imo. We need a really strong midfield and defense, then revert to 3-4-3 with Rooney and perhaps some of the youngsters to harry thier defences deep in the second half, but im having doubts about Clevz in the middle.

Hopefully we smash them. Van Gaal will put BR in his rightful place.

I would hope to feck that this isn't the team. we've spent time adapting to a formation throughout pre-season, changing it would be awful.

Stick with the same team that beat Madrid, even their depleted side would beat Liverpool. I'd prefer Shaw starting on the left and Young coming in for Valencia on the right. Maybe swap Keane for Blackett too. Apart from that we're good enough to beat these tonight, really lay our marker down for the new era.

I can see us playing a stronger team this coming weekend than we do tonight.

If Liverpool use a 433, does Sterling play on the right or the left?

If he's on the right, I hope we start Shaw as LWB. Well, I hope we do anyway, but he's the more defensively solid choice there, and together with Evans should be able to handle Sterling comfortably enough.

If he's on the left, we need to make sure Jones is on that side of the CBs, not one of the kids. It was hard on Keane to put him up against the only really threatening Madrid player while the more senior defenders had very little to do, and I wouldn't want us to make the same mistake twice.

Sterling is the danger man because of his pace and directness. Nullify him and we'll defend comfortably.

I think for a confidence thing this match is quite an important one, as one of our biggest rivals next season (if they're hoping to repeat last season's impressive finishing position) beating them here is going to be a big boost to our confidence and maybe even start to rebuild that "fear factor" we once had over EPL teams, if we win this one well it might be the match that the rest of the league notice that United is back.

I really think we can beat them, especially without the Suarez factor. Our defense so far has held up well, but the likes of Sterling and Sturridge (though is he out? Shame if he is) are going to give them a nice test, so should be interesting to see. And as for goals, we don't seem to be struggling in that area with Rooney, Mata, Hernandez and (weirdly) Young being on good goal-scoring form.

And of course it always nice to beat a rival. This is LvG's first match against another English club too, so it's really going to be a taster of what's to come for him.

Id be disappointed if United dont win this. I think our players are collectively better and LVG has them playing as a team again unlike last year

He's already back in the UK, apparently it has something to do with his hamstring.

Ah right, fair enough, thanks for the info. Would have been nice to give our defense an extra test in a match that doesn't really matter, but never mind.

.

What do you mean pal?

If Sterling is on the left, then Shaw as a lwb would be on the opposite flank.

Best part is most of those passage of play resulted in a goal or either a very good goal scoring opportunity. Not some pointless tiki taka shite with no end product.

Saw this on RAWK. A few of the other members predicted this guy's comment would be on here and I would not want to disappoint them.

I think the funniest thing is that they do not think that they have regressed at all having replaced Suarez with Lambert. They also, however, think that we are still as rubbish as we were with Moyes, even though these players won the title the year before...

I saw your first 3 games but missed the Milan game of course, but you haven't been that good really. Against city it was end to end stuff, sterling has looked excellent and like your main creative talent, as has coutinho. Apart from them though, nobody has really stuck out. Bit of a mess defensively in that game. Against olympiacos I thought you lot were quite poor too, and the Roma games as a snooze fest.

You have missed a lot of first teamers though so it's obviously not a full strength team. I just don't think you'll be anywhere close to last season in terms of consistency or quality without Suarez but with champions league football.

The scouse are shitting themselves over at RAWK, hedging all over the place. The guy with the basketball tactics takes the prize so far.

I'm not too bothered about the result but geared up for the game. I would seriously love it if we beat them. Thing that matters is what we do when the season kicks on and from what I've seen I'm convinced that we all get top 4 and may even challenge for the title if our defenders stay fit and get a couple of nice additions in. We have a lot of positives to look forward. Even if we lose it'll be a kickside in the back for the players and with LVG no non sense attitude It will benefit.
At the end of the day its a friendly but Its against the scouse and from one of the most embarrassing days Old Trafford has ever seen this win will look extremely sweet. I hope we give them a proper beating.
I wish Rafael was fit for the game , from his reaction when we lost to the pool was very heart breaking and he had the fire in his eyes to have a revenge.

I think Wayne will give them a taste of what is to come. He really hates the scouse and I won't be surprised if we end up our MOTM.

Is this the worst team sheet i have ever seen in my life.
