Manchester United vs Athletic Bilbao (Sun 6th August, 16:00 UK time)

YES PELLESTRI

Don't have much faith that any of our youngsters will make it apart from Mainoo.

Good work from Maguire there!

So pleased for him, really rate this kid! Haz Magz with the assist too!

I mean this is a mix of our 2nd and 3rd stringers...

And were still the better team. Goal was a defensive cock up and any attack we started was often ended by a cynical foul. It's been attack against defence since the red card.

Pellistri just equalises. Deserved that goal, he had a good game.

Pellistri, Fernandez and Hannibal the only kids looking even close to ready.

From the first team players noone really had a good game id say, Lindelöf did nothing wrong atleast.

So you don't believe that the mental pressure of playing for United can affect a player e.g. causing him to make more errors? And that the fact that he's become a walking meme could be affecting his play?

And you don't think that he plays better for England and played better for Burnley and Leicester? It's not as if he lost all his physical attributes once he joined United.

I think when you’re given a 4 year sample size you have to believe it. You can’t write off 3 of those years with “ah yeah he’s just not right mentally”. Every successful Maguire period has largely been the same setup: sat deep, defend his box mainly against aerial threats, look to counter. He’s decent technically for his size but far too slow of a decision maker and thus it makes him much worse than he should be at playing out of the back from pressure and causes a significant amount of errors (seriously people thought Bailly/Smalling were error prone?). Also there’s the obvious that he’s incredibly immobile especially over a short distance, meaning he’s quite prone to getting roasted by quicker players and can get caught out if asked to play a more aggressive style of pressing defense.

Do the boos and pressure affect him a bit now? Probably some, but people act like we’ve had a prime Thiago Silva in defense that only recently has had issues when that’s simply never been the case. And quite frankly I can’t for the life of me understand why he gets such a long leash compared to some players of past when it comes to excuses made for them.

Redemption for Maguire after that howler. Better in the second half from him.

We deserved that draw.

Really happy for Pellistri, its deserved, he has been arguably the best player for us on the pitch. Good assist by Maguire too.

Team to start against Wolves:

Onana

Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw

Mount Casemiro Bruno

Antony Maguire Rashford

Clutch player (I saw this used for the first time referencing CR7, still don’t know what it means)

I could have went to the game but didn’t bother for this exact reason.
Why anybody thought playing a non top 2 Spanish side in a friendly was a good idea is beyond me.
It’s good practice. When teams get scrappy and they sit back our team is so stagnant. We get into a position around the 18 yard box, and we just stop moving. We need a break like how we just scored!
When we get to the opp 18-yard box we just lose all composure.
Composure is there but lack of movement is the problem. We just sit still and expect a goal to come out of nowhere.

Hats off to pellistri ! Second half maguire is what we need for backup
