Manchester United vs AS Roma (Pre-season Friendly)

I myself don't see any chances apart of adding Chich to the attack. I'm gonna assume LVG wants to put a goal or two lead on the game before bringing on 5-10 subs.

Similar line-up to the first half of the galaxy game with a few tweaks. The last match was very close to the strongest 11 for me. Maybe kagawa for Mata, Tom Cleverley for Fletcher. Really hoping for more of the same positivity from Herrera and at least a slightly improved performance going forward from Shaw. This will be more difficult but I feel United will be able to beat Roma if Van Gaal is playing for the result. Second half will be a substitution bonanza!?young for a hat trick anyone?!

Roma only scraped a win past Liverpool, so I think it'll be at least 2-0 to us.

Oh and also, will the stats for the players include friendlies when the season starts? Btw I really like the new match day format, really sets RedCafe apart from other forums.

I'll probably have two tabs to separate the stats in the player profiles: Competitive | Friendlies

@Niall Only a very slight problem but when predicting the score I'd rather have options higher than 5 goals, 10 would be better imo.

Yep this has been requested a few times already. I wasn't going to increase the limit but yesterday's result has forced me to reconsider

Why are these matches kicking off at 6 minutes past the hour?

Last match in India was on sonysix, but this one doesn't seem to be live on the same, any idea on the channel for live telecast?

I don't think we'll need the stats from the friendlies once the season starts.

Anyone know when the press conference takes place for this game?

Thank you mate, but none of them are available here. would be gutted if its not live. Hopefully the chevy site should be relaying it or not?

Doubt it. The Chevy site only showed the last game because it was for the Chevrolet Cup.

If there are any legal streams, will probably find out closer to kick-off.

Thanks for sorting out the first post @Damien, I was looking at it earlier lamenting its crapness :)

How good was the commentator in that game? Made it all the more intense and memorable!

I just remember how loud OT was that night! Passion and attack, its what this club was built on!!!! More of the same this year please!!!!!

The 7-1 drubbing of Roma was probably my favourite United performance ever, with Giggs, Ronaldo, and Carrick just on another level in the game. However, it wasn't our last encounter with Roma, just the most memorable one. We played them another four times after that the following season (when we won the thing), in the group stage and then in the last eight again. They set up a lot more defensively (understandably), but still suffered two 1-0 defeats, a 2-0 defeat, and managed a 1-1 draw in the group stage in Italy. They were probably sick of the sight of us by then and I don't think we've met since

As for this game, I agree with the line-up of:

de Gea
Smalling Jones Evans
Rafael Cleverley Herrera Shaw
Mata
Hernandez Rooney

Just a few changes, with Rafael getting a start and Fletcher a rest after playing the full game. Herrera will start again, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him subbed off in the second half (maybe even at half time) but he should be one of the fresher players there. However, he'll probably have to play 90 minutes against Inter and Real, so this is the time to give him 30-45 minutes off.

Wholesale changes in the second half again depending on the score, but Kagawa, Lingard, Nani, Welbeck, M.Keane, James, Amos, and Blackett are all very likely to see action for my money. This is likely the game where most of the kids will get on the field, but LvG won't want to lose it.

Oh, and for the record, I think Herrera and Hernandez will be lethal

I'm a Roma fan, I don't think Pjanic will play the game. And De Rossi too. Too few days of training for them... but I'm not sure

I think 4 or 5 regular : Cole, Benatia, Castan, Iturbe, Totti

He's talking about our last encounter with Roma. We done it before it was cool.

epic game, top performance.

Even Roma's goal was quality.

But Carrick, 2 great strikes, can't recall him even getting that close and shooting for ages.

We're going to miss the Champions league this year :(

A lot to ask given that he's basically out of position there, and will be playing against a better team.

What does anyone think of the idea of dropping one of the 3 CBs from the Galaxy game (maybe Smalling) for Shaw, and then starting James in the left wingback slot? That would surely be a better way of getting people in positions that actually suit them.
