MANCHESTER UNITED U21 VS. MANCHESTER CITY U21

Great first half hour or so, after which we were poor in possession. Could have done with a Pearson or the likes in midfield really. Nonetheless some superb defending and impressive discipline to hold the lead. Joyce goes marching on.

Ok game. We got some exciting young players imo.

Will Keane should get a chance with the first team. He looks like a pro. He could very well make it.

I think they were talking about the U-12s and U-16s. They only recently amped up their recruiting efforts so they're still a ways away from the U-21 team being competitive.

Not really true.Their best British talents might be still down the line but they have a lot of good foreign imports in the current U21s crop (some been out on loan).I don't think their coaching at U21s level has been that impressive.Their tactical play usually very predictable to me, focus on possession, passing but not doing a lot with it.

Poole is new Jones, good debut for a 17years old slightly out of position... decent performances from all players, liked that left hand side with Riley going forward a lot, shame Harrop got injured, would say he has a good chance if he stays fit

Ro'shawn williams keeps improving and really settled at this level and he's the youngest player on the pitch most of these games.

Between him, Mensah, Borthwick Jackson, Tuanzebe and now maybe Poole will be quite interesting who can make it how high ? Some talent there.

:nervous:

Who is number 5? Played left back tonight.

Great block from Poole right at the end. Him, Williams and Fosu Mensah were the standouts for me. And all still u18?

When did Will Keane turn 23!? he's older than Kane! Should definitely get some first team run outs this season, his form has been fantastic since coming back from Preston.

It's a shame, those knee injuries really robbed his teenage years. He's looking sharp again though which is great to see

Absolutely, I have to be honest - he completely slipped my mind post-Fergie and am surprised to see his name being banded about the Caf again. Great to see it though; if he can make it in the EPL, not necessarily for us, he'll have done brilliantly considering his injuries.

Just finished watching the match. Class finish from Rothwell, love that lad and Harrop too. RoShaun Williams was fantastic again and a strong debut by Poole. If at least a couple of Williams, Tuanzebe, TFM, CBJ, and maybe Poole don't make it then we'll have seriously fecked up. James Weir continues to have a great season, made some fantastic runs today and has really stepped his game up. Really entertaining match all around.

Ron Atkinson seems to have some sort of speech impediment where you laugh in between each word.

We were good in the first half and poor in the second half. City generally poor throughout. Both teams have excuses though - they had key men out, and so did we, namely Januzaj, Varela and Pereira. Not only were they missing but the reshuffle to fill their spots left us with some odd positional decisions. TFM was both wasted and uncomfortable at RB. Poole did alright at first but dropped right out of the game in the second half, understandable given his age. Once City got a hold of the ball a bit more in the second half and shored up their defence, Rothwell, Harrop and Weir seemed to struggle without Pereira anchoring their attacking moves.

Win's a win though, we were the better team overall and now we're top of the league, right?

Agree with this but should you be relying on Adnan and Varela to make a difference at this level? Surely they're just special guest stars?
The EDS League is a bit of a mess really. Players on loan, postponements all over the place, overage players using it to regain match fitness.
Nice to see the young players but it's all a bit of a dog's breakfast as a competition. I'm sure something better will be introduced eventually.

You lot seriously call it that? It's like you want us to make fun of you.
