Manchester United Transfers '13

Yeah! Rafael, Vidic, Evra, Hernandez, Jones and Smalling amongst others. Who are those, right? Damn scouts!

Rafael is the only one from that lot that I would class as an unknown youngster. I was meaning kids especially from South America and park benches etc. Not ones who have first team experience elsewhere. Jones was highly regarded as was Smalling. Vidic and Evra had experience, it was just that we didn't know them. Hernandez was unknown but not some 16 year old that goes into out youth system, then eventually goes back home. What benefit is that to our first team. We seem to just produce kids to play in the lower leagues, not our first team.

Can not believe some of you. Thiago deal is dead in the water, we should focus on the players we CAN get and Barry (or fellaini or kondogbia... I never said go all out for Barry) would be a good option.

And contrary to popular belief, Barry IS rated by City fans. He is a league winner who contributed alot in that year. Moyes is probably eyeing him up, not a much different player to strootman with PL experience. I would.

Even with SAF at the helm, the club was finding it tough to compete for the big names mainly due to the club's wage balance. It can only get more difficult now with Moyes tbh.

I agree, I think the days of people just wanting to play for Manchester United have gone. We are going to have to fight for players. There are too many other options now. The name of Manchester United is not enough now, unfortunately. RVP might be one of the last. If we could win the CL of course that might attract players. Except I am not sure we can win it with this midfield. I am really happy with the rest of the team. The midfield just isn't inspiring and I dread what will happen if Carrick ever got injured.

Barry is 32, so how long before we need to replace him as well, we need someone younger. It's more his age that bothers me.

A question we've been asking ourselves me and my friends, would RVP have signed for Man Utd if SAF retired the previous season ? I honestly don't think so.

Probably not. Now I am depressed. Please Moysie, cheer us up with a big signing or at least a useful signing.

Ok, so Januzaj and Pereira then. The 90-minute rule has made it difficult for English teams to do what you described.

And the obvious benefit of having the academy produce youngsters for all tiers of English football is that the youngsters see that most of the ones who come through our academy is able to make a living from playing football. No one would bother to choose us over another club if our track record was terrible, but the fact of the matter is that Manchester United has been producing an insane amount of professional footballers for the English league system. It might not be an instant "fix" for our first team, but the academy isnt supposed to be anything of that sort either.

We've been spoilt in the past with great players coming through our youth system, but the pressure was much less in those days and the consequenses of losing a game is much bigger now due to the competition and prize money. We can only afford those let the very best of our youth system have a go, and it might not be something we like, but due to the competetivness of the league, it's something we have to get used to. Barca and Real amongst others have been able to give their youngsters plenty more games than we can afford, simply because the competition is worse. Their U21s are also allowed to play in the league-system, which means that they will be matched against tougher opposition on a regular basis and it'll allow better development as well. I would say it's alot more complex than what you are making it out to be.

The jury is still out on the two youngsters you have named. Hopefully Adnan can get some playing time on this tour and impress Moyes. Was hoping he would get on during the last game of season, but due to the way the game was going that didn't happen. He is the one I do have hopes for. Also it depends how brave David Moyes is regarding giving kids their chance. Rooney supposedly left Everton because he thought he should be playing more, but in hindsight Moyes was probably going about it the right way.

He's a decent player is Barry. But we need a first team player and not a squad player, he's also 32! If this was 2010 then perhaps he'd be a decent shout, but we're in 2013.

Citeh - Fernandinho, Navas, (Will get another striker)

Chelsea - Schrulle, Van Ginkel, (Lukaku), De Rossi soon.

We definitely need to start strengthening soon if we are to regain our title next season.

We need to stenghten, but Chelsea and City finished miles behind us in the league last season, so they're naturally playing catch up.

We still have the best striker in the league, a lot of top defenders, a potential world class keeper in DDG and two top wingers when in form, in Nani and Valencia. Central midfeild needs to be improved, but we've still a great squad.

 Can't believe people are still being picky. Honestly, at this rate, just someone that makes sure we won't be a 100% reliant on Carrick would be good.

Yeah, but after years of hearing "there's no value in the market" spending 20m on Fellaini will be a bitter pill to swallow.

Relax morons, we're not signing Barry, we're not Everton.

Oh wait...

If rooney and nani leave and we sign one big fecker in central midfield, baines, garay and use zaha and kagawa as replacements, how happy would you be.

and we lost the best manager ever. That changes everything.

What happened to the Fagregas rumours? Are those dead too?

Since the end of the season Fabregas has said repeatedly he doesn't want to leave, despite him doing a fair bit of whining during the season (about the press and fans). It's very unlikely that Barca would want him out - particularly after losing Thiago.

We need to get a move on in the transfer market. I fully expect Rooney to leave for Chelsea and make them even stronger favourites for the league. We need to be looking at a replacement for Rooney and a quality CM. If we don't I worry about an injury to Carrick leaving us in a dog fight for automatic CL qualification.

I'll be very happy if we end up with Garay and Baines as our only signings from now.

That kind of thinking is dangerous. We walked the league in 2001, added two big signings but failed to address the obvious issue (the back four - well it became a problem area when Fergie threw his toys out of the pram because of Stam's book) and ended up finishing third, behind Liverpool.

The situation is kind of comparable: we have a glaring hole in the squad and some of the best, most important players of the previous great triumphs are on the wrong side of thirty (Carrick, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, even Van Persie turns 30 before the season starts). We surely can't afford to sit on our laurels, saying that it's all good, we won the league last season.

We'll probably sign Baines, Fellaini and Khedira. That's two midfielders, which can only be a good thing, and Baines isn't a dreadful player. If Evra is moving to Monaco (as seems possible) then Baines is at least a solid left-back, if an unspectacular one. Fellaini and Khedira would give us a bit of dynamism and defensive solidarity in midfield whilst also providing cover for Carrick. Neither of them are world class, and neither will be key men in the squad, but they'll give our forward players a platform to build from, and whilst they might not be the best midfielders in the world they're still a lot better than not having anyone at all.

I'm not particularly concerned with losing Rooney and the impact that it will have on our squad, because I don't think he contributed anything last year that other players aren't capable of doing just as well if given a run of games. My main problem with letting him go is that it'll probably revitalise him if he moves to Chelsea. We won't miss him directly because he was in such poor form for us last season that his contribution was negligible, but an in-form Rooney is one of the best players in the world, and he could easily go on and do for Chelsea what Van Persie did for us last year. We might not miss seeing him in a United shirt, but we'll regret seeing him in a Chelsea one.

That's exactly how I see it at the moment. We have a big issue to deal with and at the moment we're a month away from new league season and we've done nothing so far.

Getting Baines would just reinforce the idea that Moyes station is about Everton's level. Besides the fact that Evra is only a couple of years older.. why not stay with Evra and get Fabio up and running. Left back position certainly isn't priority and everyone knows it -- so by buying Baines it will only send out a depressing message and that Moyes doesnt have the ability to attract bigger players.
Besides what does it tell the youngsters?

Baines is the best left back in the league, Garay is a talented centre half and Fellaini is one of the best midfielders in the league. Nothing wrong with those transfers.

"the little boy in me screamed Manchester City!"

Baines or Garay (both?!?) will hopefully be announced tomorrow to deal with Bayern's Thiago unveiling. I refuse to believe united will take this lying down.
