Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

It's going to a big season for the youth teamers that's for sure if we don't invest.

There isn't a lot of time, the first league game is 4 weeks today.

If we learned anything from last year it's surely that we can't just throw on any 11 players and expect to win just because we're Manchester United.

Very true, but if I am correct the transfer window doesn't close for a few additional weeks after the first match. I get your point, if we're going to add players and we all think Utd will, let's get them in and get them acclimated. Ideally we'd have wrapped up our transfer business two weeks ago but after that first initial league-wide flurry of activity it has been quiet. Seems many clubs are in a wait and see mode and we're going to have to be patient.

Every day there are different names in the papers and on twitter and it is driving me crazy too, but calm, pint, patience.

The cynic in me says LVG knows he is walking into a new job, new country and most of the supposed victims will have established roots within the club so this ''three or four weeks to assess the squad'' is simply him trying to create a situation where he looks like he is giving everyone a fair chance but I think he already knows or is close to conclusively knowing who he wants gone and who should stay. I think he doesn't want to look like an axe wielding maniac and alienate a lot of people in the club so he will take his time, what he will do is buy first then look to loan out or sell those he'd have flogged . It's just that the players he will buy will be workmen like signings not the ''three big ones'' some feel we ''deserve''.

That is true - but everyone knows we can't let 4 defenders leave and replace them with an 18 year old. Regarding midfielders and strikers - yes he can assess the situation. Fellaini, Cleverley, Valencia, Nani, Young, Fletcher, Zaha etc - we have players. The majority of them aren't good enough to win the title with - but it's not a catastrophy to start the season with these players even with Carrick out injured as long as we have players like Mata and Herrera.

The real problem is in defense. We have got 1 really experience defender - and he is 26 years old. We have 5 established defenders and 2 of them are basically teenagers still. 3 of them are injury prone.

Yes we can move Valencia into defense - but we NEED to get at least 1 more defender in. This is not about assessing the situation - because Giggs can easily tell him that apart from maybe Michael Keane - none of the others are anywhere near first-team level.

When you look at our defensive options I think it's impossible to argue that we are short even if we accept the makeshift RB cover as the best we can manage. Lets say Vermaelen comes in, he can barely stay fit and isn't that good at actual defending, but he's a body that covers CB and LB, we would still need 1 proper CB brought in to add to Smalling, Jones and Evans since Jones and Smalling may have to play RB at times.

Then you look at midfield and weep. Carrick is injured and 33, Herrera is the only other good CM we have. I'd rate Cleverley as 50/50 to make it as a squad player here. Anderson, Fellaini and Fletcher are not good enough. We need two CM additions now to make sure we aren't caught desperately short.

It seems likely we'll play 3 up top and I don't see us adding a forward of any type this summer now, I mean Mata/Januzaj/Valencia for the right, Rooney/RvP/Hernandez central and Welbeck/Kagawa left. This is all not even counting Young, Nani, Zaha and Lingard who we don't know for sure will be sold/loaned out.

Way does everyone say we need a back up LB but ignores the fact we have no back up for RB either and if anything Rafael is likely to miss more games than Shaw.
Valencia, Smalling and Jones have all played RB is the past we also have Varela and Vermijl who could step up. If Evra goes we have no player with past experience at LB and only Blackett at U21 level

No way will Van Gaal approve Cavani's purchase considering we have RVP here. Its just the press adding 2 and 2 and coming out with 11 as the result

Not Cavani again! Why wont this go away?!

The "logic" is that he will play RVP up front and Rooney won't like where he is played or won't be very good at it so a Rooney/Cavani swap plus dosh is a good deal. Probably bollocks mind.

They need to fill column inches. Cavani to Utd makes no sense whatsoever, unless Van Gaal moves Rooney back into midfield. I can't see that happening anytime soon though.

Not to mention hes named RVP captain, and has to know where to play his number 10's like mata and kagwa, last thing united will be doing is spening a kings fortune on a position that is well stocked, unless messi came on the market

Wolfsburg have rubbished reports suggesting that they may be willing to negotiate the sale of Ricardo Rodriguez to Manchester United.

Rumours in Germany claim that United have already sounded out a possible deal with the full-back’s agent Roger Wittmann.

It is reported that the Premier League side have turned their attention to Rodriguez as they prepare to lose Patrice Evra to Juventus.

If the experienced Frenchman does leave Old Trafford, then cover and competition will be required for big-money signing Luke Shaw.

Switzerland international Rodriguez is said to have been identified as a top target by Louis van Gaal, but Wolfsburg have no intention of entering into transfer talks.

Asked about reports of a meeting between United and Wittmann, Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs told Kicker: “That will have been a brief conversation.

“Ricardo is not going anywhere.”

Ans that's how you nip things in the bud, Dortmund and Juve were not so blunt

Huh? Asked about the "rumour" from Spain of Hummels joining United for 20 Mil. €, Dortmund coach Klopp nearly fell from his chair laughing his ass off yesterday, calling it "garbage". CEO Watzke said the same as Allofs two days ago. In difference to the head of football of Wolfsburg, Watzke widened out his statement to the whole squad, though, clearly stating that there will be no nome departures in the summer.

That sounds pretty blunt to me. You basically can´t make stronger statements than these as officials of a football club. Not that this will change anything for some muppets....

As definitive as saying "I wouldn't sell that mob a virus"?

wow, that article (about Hummels) from express is shocking, why even bother posting that?

Not hearing much about potential departures. Think it's going to be a real struggle to shift some of the shite we have in our squad.

I can't wait to see the back of:

Nani
Young
Anderson
Bebe
Fellaini
Cleverely

As well as Valencia but that's not happening.

I was wondering when we were going to shift the dead weight.
Anderson, Fellaini and young should never be allowed to wear a MUFC shirt again..

Thats right. Because the first thing any new and decent manager does when he comes in, and prior to seeing anyone in training let alone play, is says "OK, X, Y, and Z are shit and are leaving"

It will be no struggle to shift anyone LVG doesn't want. We are financially strong enough to virtually give the useless cnuts away which isn't far from what will be required for those on that list (a list I largely agree with).

Give the man at least a couple of weeks - I really don't think he's going to fight shy of getting rid of the passengers.

I think we will struggle even to give away Fellaini and Young - due to their large wages

It is pretty difficult to get shit off the back of the clubs shoes

bebe looks to be leaving, I would change cleverly for fletcher, because we need CM players who can stay fit, I can see cleverly benefiting under LVG, since he is a tidy player.

The ones I would move on
fletcher fellaini anderson nani young bebe kagwa

wages off the books, and spaces for either young players, or the funds needed to buy new players

Why do we offer such idiotic wages actually, its like when you are playing FIFA and u have like 700 million euro and plenty of wage money and you just give them a wage so that they will not complain or other clubs cant buy them.

I question why the hell we give the wages, these guys would play under united for peanuts, fellaini and young at most should be on 50K a week. And many of us thought kleberson djembaX2 were bad

I'd keep Cleverley as I think he can be a useful squad player with van Gaal here, but I agree with the rest.

We overpay wages in the mid-range category, partly because we wouldn't go to the top bracket for a long list of targets in the last five or so years.
