We were in flux last summer and LvG was late getting here due to the World Cup, hopefully our transfer activity is a lot more methodical this summer and done as early as possible.

It's massive, but not the way we do business. I'd prefer to see us do it the way you suggested, but let's be honest, in the past two years we've bought:
Fellaini: £28m
Mata: £37m
Di Maria: £60m
Shaw: £30m
Herrera: £30m
Rojo: £20m (when you factor in the Nani deal)
Falcao: £16m odd incl. wages
Blind: £14m
for something like £235m and we've ended up with, what? A target man midfielder who is clearly not good enough to start for us and who is currently ahead of our two Spaniard number 10s, who LVG doesbn't really seem to fancy. Di Maria who was overpriced and hasn't adapted well (yet). Shaw who is still learning the game and is appreciably worse than the player he replaced. Rojo who isn't a top class CB, Falcao who's a waste of space and Blind who's a very good player, but unlikely to be a great one. All added to
It's fair to say I don't have much faith in Woodward to suddenly see the light.
I don't think I am. Personally I think Rojo looks an accident waiting to happen. I agree on Shaw, but right now he's learning the game in a style he's not equipped for. I like Blind and Di Maria was top notch in Spain, but unless he ups his game considerably he'll be a flop. Fellaini is made out to be worse than he is, but that doesn't mean he should be playing for a side like ours. Mata has been unlucky, but he was also brought in by a manager who seemed to have no idea how to use him, so in that sense I'm not sure a lot has changed. You are being too harsh, Rojo looks good Shaw is a great investment, Blind a steady player and Di Maria top notch. Falcao a loan that's not worked out. Mata has been unlucky as in the manager who bought him got sacked. Fellaini is made out to be worse than he is due to his style. We don't need a full new team we just need to start buying smart imo. Bale a Right back and a centre mid will see us challenging.

All of that said, I more or less agree. Buy Bale, Clyne, a top centre half and, say, Pogba, and I think we'd be in the mix. But I don't believe that we'll manage to do that sort of business. I fully expect us to allow ourselves to be led by the nose by agents again.
I'm not convinced on Clyne to be honest I think he's below average on the ball. I could be wrong. I don't think we need a centre back I think Rojo and Smalling could possibly be the answer. Plus I'd rather have Modric than Pogba if I am being honest would make more of an impact, both would be good but Pogba is a great prospect but overhyped at this stage imo (not saying he won't be world class just that he isn't already).
£150m has to buy you 4 very good players, at least one of them top class, or else you're a fool. You only think that's not much because of how we spend money.
£150m would have got you Fabregas, Costa, Sanchez, Matic and leave about £30m to spare.
I'd like six players brought in, Koke (or Gundogan), Schneiderlin, Hummels, Depay, Clyne and another CF...?
I'd obviously also like players such as Pogba, Reus, Bale, Lewandowski etc but I really don't see it even if we get into CL. Even Koke will be a difficult one I guess.
----------De Gea
---Clyne Hummels Rojo Shaw
------Schneiderlin Blind
-----Di Maria Koke Depay
-----------Rooney
Sell Evans, Rafael, Jones and Nani. Plus I think LvG will off load Mata and possibly RvP.
We won't get Koke. He's very happy at Atletico.
Yes you're probably right...Gundogan then, seems to be over his injury and hitting form again. I'm going to watch the Juventus game later to do some scouting!

I'd still take Vidal in a heartbeat. We don't really need a youngster, we need an experienced pro in the midfield to take over from Carrick when he buggers off. I'd be so happy if we ended up with Hummels as our leader at the back and Vidal for our leader in the middle. Bring in a new RB and one of Depay/Vietto/Dyabla (don't know much of Dyabla though tbh).
I actually think what with LvG being so fussy about the tour dates, that everyone will be signed before we leave to go on tour this summer. No last minute stuff, unless something too good to be true becomes available.
weren't there news about SAF being interested in Clyne 2 yrs ago?I think by bellend would explode if we brought in Nathaniel Clyne, Mat Hummels and Diego Godin in the summer.
what we've always needed: a CM.

The only way Shaw will become a "great investment" is if he ends up becoming one of the best full backs of his generation and that looks a long stretch atm due to his attacking game. Defensively he looks very very good.
You are either on the wind up or deluded!
I totally agree.What we need:
------------------------DDG-----------------
New RB------New CB-------Rojo------Shaw
----------------New DMC-----Blind---------
Di Maria-----------Rooney--------New Winger
-------------------New Striker---------------
Keeping Mata and selling Rooney makes no sense at all. There is no way that LvG would do such a thing.---------------DDG--------------
Coleman-Hummels-Rojo-Shaw
----------Blind---New CM------
New AM------Mata--------di Maria
------------new Striker---------
Subs:
Januzaj, Fellaini, jones, Valencia, Young, Valdez, Wilson/ RVP
CM looks like it's Strootman, AM has to be world class. So like Bale or Reus. Striker can be anyone with pace. Get rid of Rooney and Falcao and the rest I've not listed. Maybe a backup LB needed too.

Strootman is very unlikely because he is yet to prove his fitness, we don't need another Hargreaves.
After watching two world class teams go at it tonight, we seem miles off them. I would bring in 2 top class centre halves, 1 right back, 2 midfielders and new forward. 6 Players in total. Assuming we get a top 4 spot...
CB- Hummels (£35million)
CB- Godin (£25million)
RB- Coleman (£20million)
CDM- Khedira (Free)
CM- Schniederlin (£25million)
RW- Depay (£15million)
Total Spend- £120million
------------------------------------De Gea--------------------------------------
-----Coleman-----------Godin---------------Hummels------------Shaw------
--------------------------Schniederlin----Khedira-----------------------------
-------------Nani------------------------------------------Di Maria------------
--------------------------Rooney----------------Van Persie----------------------
RVP is only in because I don't think LVG will get rid of him.
i remember the Clyne stories.....to think we spent 15 million on Zaha instead
150 million could do a serious amount of damage and with time on our side I don't expect to see lots of 30/40 million deals
I can see one or two but I could see some other good budget deals
someone like Clyne is going to cost 20 million +
Only a year left on his contract. £15mil would do it I think.
4 world class players would be nice seeing as we don't have loads in the current team.£150m has to buy you 4 very good players, at least one of them top class, or else you're a fool. You only think that's not much because of how we spend money.

I really think people are overestimating how many players we need. There is absolutely no way we're gonna buy more than 4 first team players in the summer as I see it, and I think 3 is most likely.
