Moyes brought Murtough in.This is a good video for people like me who don't like reading.
Ole maintains his veto power over transfers.

you didn't mention that at all.so you really couldn't tell that I was referring to his coaching and executive credentials?
Whether you like it or not Woodward IS the Abramovich of Manchester United. He is the Glazers right hand man, and they're obviously happy with his job.Top? Obviously not. I would have thought it would make sense to report to a board, rather then one individual (unless it was the owner).
As an example, the person in an equivalent job at Chelsea would report to Abramovic, not someone else in between them.
Woodward (non football background) is still going to have the final say on football related decisions. Although you would hope that he is now going to be better informed by this change.
Yes mate here is the source
Murtough in particular has been doing a very good job in his previous role. Lets see if it translates to the first team.
First I've heard of that. Source?Yeah he was but Butt is leaving the club in the summer so they promoted Fletcher to take over.
Our youth transfer record has definitely improved, if he has had anything to do with that and could do similar things for the first XI.You actually think our transfer record improved post 2014?
As others have mentioned just seems like we are hiring yes men for ed
Murtaugh is a stay over from the gang Moyes brought with him from Everton. He must have done something useful to stick out from that lot.
I'm too lazy to even click the video. From the thumbnail I'll just assume Darren Fletcher is now our new manager.
Very true. As one of the journo's said they could be very good appointments IF allowed to work they want to under Woodward.Could well be a decent guy for the role but with Woodward at the helm I find it hard to get excited by anything that happens behind the scenes. Pitchforks will be out in August if we've had yet another lackluster summer window.
What club does it that way? The CEO is always in charge of the club as a whole, and the DoF is hired by him to run the footballing side of things. The DoF still has to report to the CEO and show that he is doing that job well, and ultimately if he's not doing it well the CEO will fire him and hire a new person for that role.
Some DoF's have 100% control of all footballing decisions (although the CEO still has to sign off on the financial side of things), some have a bit less. Murtough seems to be the latter since it sounds like he's working alongside Ole rather than truly above him.
Well, at least the position has been created. Which means if he doesn’t do the job well then we can bring someone else

And? Bayern is full of ex players. They proved their worth over time and internally showed why they got the job. It's the right thing to do to go internal.so you really couldn't tell that I was referring to his coaching and executive credentials?

He isn't going anywhere soon, so this is the way it has to be structured. Woodward is the boss, the others will report to him.
At least they're making moves to take the football side of things out of his hands, which is exactly what we've been asking for.
No disrespect to John Murtough but what I've just read sounds like it's a promotion to shut the media up. Just sounds like a yes man to me, how on earth can you go from looking after the players and women's team to director of football!!!!
Disgusted if I'm honest.
But it doesn’t really does it. If he still has the final say on all footballing decisions, we’ve basically just given out some pay rises and job titles.
So If I am reading this right: we are moving some people already at the club into newly created vital roles that they have no experience in?
To go along with a first team manager and coaches who are also learning on the job?
We are being fobbed off.
You got me too DOF threads on here have ruined me.
For some reason that's the opposite for me. I like that Fletcher is there and feel like he will bring something to the table. It's clear that they see something in him, as he didn't last long in the coaching role, but saw something bigger in him. Apparent maybe, shouldn't say clear.Good news.
At least we have the position now, give him a chance and if he's no good we can get somebody else.
It's a step in the right direction. Fletcher is the more questionable appointment for me.
DOF still have to sign off on decisions at which ever club theyre atBut it doesn’t really does it. If he still has the final say on all footballing decisions, we’ve basically just given out some pay rises and job titles.
Lacklustre summer in terms of spending is already assured due to the impact of COVID on our finances.
Hopefully we can find the players we need for a reasonable fee (or leverage a few contract situations to our advantage). Other than City, Chelsea and PSG, everyone else will be struggling financially, too.
Just because he's above them doesn't mean he will be double checking their work and making sure he signs off on it before it's done. But it doesn’t really does it. If he still has the final say on all footballing decisions, we’ve basically just given out some pay rises and job titles.
Me not like readie, Me like ears working.
Lackluster in terms of spending in one thing. Lackluster in terms of approach and chasing shadows all summer though is completely unforgivable. If you can't afford a certain player, make it clear and swiftly move onto other targets.
I'd have loved to see the reaction you'd have had if you were an Ajax fan when VDS took over the CEO role of Ajax.
(Yes contrary to popular belief VDS is the CEO of Ajax and Overmars is the DOF)
