We'll be half way through October when proper football returns and heading towards the January transfer window. Activity in the window varies but just in the past 3 seasons transfers like Matic to Chelsea and Mata to United have happened, so it's not out of the question that some business may be done.

As noted above Jose has previous during a rebuilding period and I can see us bringing in a couple. I reckon Memphis will move on and we'll buy one of the young, pacey wingers we've been linked with, and I think Darmian will go, leaving room for us to finally get some RB competition for Tony.

I'm not expecting anything. We'll probably still have the Europa League to play in and I can't imagine many, if any departures happening. Also Mourinho already thinks our squad is bloated so I can't see him pushing for incoming transfers unless it was an emergency. Also, a lot of those under-the-radar buys you mean are players that might be cup-tied in Europe, if I'm not mistaken. The likes of Bailey, Martins, Ounas and others.

I think it'll be a quiet January and I'm fine with that.

We won't be giving up on a transfer because they are cup-tied this time. It might have been a factor in Champions League which we cared about, in Europa League we will likely play second fiddle players until late rounds and won't care if someone is not available.

Depends mostly on how the rest of this year goes. I can see maybe just one signing coming in, just defensive or midfield backup. Remember Bailly's leaving for the African Cup of Nations so our defence will be stretched thin, especially if we get any injuries.

As for departures, none really. Maybe Schweinsteiger if anything happens with that.

Yes, but the kind of players that would come in January are likely to be second-fiddle players for this season anyway.

Schweinsteiger will go to the MLS or back to Bayern.

Darmian will probably join some Serie A side. I hear Chelsea are interested in him aswell.

Memphis on loan, hopefully to some Premier League team like Southampton or Everton. Don't want to see it happen, as I want him to get games with us BUT... Koeman would be good for him.

Phil Jones and Ashley Young will hopefully be moved on. We should have sold Jones to Stoke in the summer.

Schweinsteiger and Darmian should hopefully be gone by then

Memphis is a possibility

That will be it. Doubt Mourinho will sign anyone but he may be tempted to try and go for Bakayoko and Bailly. Might be hard to convince a Monaco side who have a great chance to challenge for Ligue 1 to part with a key player in January though. The squad could defo use a little more quality in January though in the unlikely event one or two players become available

No movement. We need to coach what we've got til the summer.

Schweinsteiger might go, but not expecting anything else to happen.

You've just confused the crap out of me with that spelling.

I assume you mean that Leon Bailey chap? I don't know anything about him, but then recall seeing the thread of his here on the Caf.

I can see Darmien out and would like to have another RB, but don't see us bolstering that position until the summer. With Mourinho playing Young at RB a couple times off the bench I can see less of a need for Darmien - particularly with TFM around.

Its a shame because he started well here.

I think it depends on who is available in January because our options at holding midfield are very limited, there are a few players who could move on like Schweinsteiger, Memphis, Darmian, Jones (on loan) and Young because teams staring the down the barrel of relegation might fancy an experienced pro to help steady the ship.

Can't see anyone coming in, if they do it will be someone as cover like Jose Fonte.

I think Darmian will go back to Italy, Bastian may go to MLS and I read this morning that Romero has been told he needs to leave to stay as Argentina #1 so he might look elsewhere.

Definitely this.

Could see the possibility of a relegation threatened team coming in for Fellaini with an offer we can't refuse (£20m+). Likewise Schweinsteiger leaving and possibly Darmien going out on loan.

Apart from a Pacey genuine right winger I don't think the squad really needs much more at present.

We need to give this squad time to show what they've truly got, some players aren't showing their full abilities yet.

Give it until the summer and Jose will know who's worth keeping. I think massive cuts will be made this summer.

Defense, defense, defense. The balance is still not right. Be proactive for once, build from a position of decent strength, and trigger Laporte and Cancelo's buyout clause. :(

Maybe Cancelo is too raw for Mourinho right now, so buy Mario outright. Give the new duo 5 months and the whole summer to get to their team-mates, the club, the manager's system, and the league; so you'll have a complementary and relatively settled defense in time for next season - with great depth, and potential world class quality across all positions - for the medium to long term. Keep building up the chemistry in defense, and summertime - concentrate on priority midfield/attacker signings in the market.

Realistically not expecting much movement, though. We seem to be happy with the defensive personnel status quo. Maybe a want-away midfielder/attacker in January, and that'll be that.

PS: Our defense was good, but not potentially great in 2005 - just like it is right now, especially in terms of genuine world class potential. And 2 defensive signings in the winter window remedied that over the long term, albeit under the radar ones who overachieved.

Young can still effect games on his day. give him until the end of the season.

None, we've just come out of a summer in which 4 excellent players have been recruited. We have plenty on our plate to get them all integrated into the side, without bringing in another player or so, who will be probably misused

Rooney to Everton. Perhaps Bastian to MLS and Darmian back to Italy.
Koeman is not stupid..hopefully some chinese/MLS managers are, he will soon hand in a transfer request so it will be easier to ship him out

I'd be surprised, if he actually wanted to move on.

What do you think of Laporte lately? Somehow I'm not sure if he has improved that much during the last 18 months or so.

Currently I'd almost prefer Sidibe or Ricardo Pereira, since they are getting more minutes as a right-back.

Laporte would improve with even better team round him, but he seems quite settled where he is at the moment. A broken and dislocated ankle might be taking some getting over. It says something that he is back playing to a good standard.

Schweinsteiger will go to the MLS or back to Bayern.

Why would Bayern want Schweinsteiger back? It was obvious that they thought he was finished when they decided to sell him.

Well, he's only 22 years old, and had an exemplary start to his career, so a bit of stagnation at or slightly below that level isn't entirely unexpected as he develops. Plus, Athletic Club as a whole has been inconsistent over the last year, or so - and his fairly mediocre (blowing hot and cold) form has coincided with that period. Then he had a big injury layoff. But he's starting to get back to the level where he was named into the Liga Team of the Year. You get the sense that Laporte has just about hit his ceiling at the club, and a move to a bigger team will give him the environment as well as the incentive to start cementing himself as one of the best CBs around as the current elite start declining with age (Godín, Thiago, Bonucci). Him not moving to City was a bit of a godsend to teams like United because he has the exact sort of skillset we're missing - halfway between Smalling and Blind as a centerback - robust and physically capable like the former, but calculating and a really good distributor from the back like the latter. Centerbacks with his sort of characteristics and potential are few and far between (Varane won't move, Rugani won't either, Marquinhos is slowly becoming a mainstay after some turmoil - and he won't be the best 'vertical fit' with Bailly), so it's a case of meeting his clause before someone else does.
Currently I'd almost prefer Sidibe or Ricardo Pereira, since they are getting more minutes as a right-back.
TBH, I'm a bit of a Cancelo fan, so I'm biased in his favor as a United target. Valencia are just wasting him in attacking positions, instead of developing his positional play and discipline as a rightback (and José could really accelerate his growth in that department). If we'd to sign a more polished right-back, then they don't come much better than Mario (only 1 year older than Sidibe and 2 years older than Pereira but the 3rd best RB in Liga after Juanfran and Carvajal - and almost as good as the latter, IMO). Plus, he's entering his prime and has a good understanding on the right hand side of the defense with Bailly from when the latter was at Villarreal.

Oops...sorry about that...Too many Baileys and Dembeles in the game thes days :D gets confusing

That was Pep's decision. The fans and board would welcome him back with open arms. He's their "Gerrard"

I'd only expect Darmian to leave, with all the rumours about meeting with Inter agents and Jose's preference for Rojo, he's a gonner, it's just a matter of Jan or summer. Bastian could possibly leave, it must have dawned on him he's never playing another game for Utd, so it just depends on how happy he is to collect a paycheque by Jan, MLS looks nailed on to be his final destination.

Other that that, I don't see us signing or selling anyone else. People who think Rooney will be leaving in January are mad, he's still the captain and despite his reduced playing time it's not so easy to get rid of him, especially mid season, a host of commercial, contractual and other off pitch issues need to be carefully aligned before he can be sold. As such, it'll be summer at the earliest if we are going to see the back of him. I think some people forget that real life isn't football manager and the club can't just suddenly offload someone in his situation and wages in the January transfer window.

Not expecting anyone to be brought in, unless Mourinho has his eyes on a cheap option like Diarra. But I can see Schweinsteiger and Darmian leaving. Neither of them are troubling the first team squad at the moment, so it would make sense.

With Darmian likely to be on his way and Bailly off to cup of nations, I can see a defensive reinforcement coming in, someone who can cover both positions.

Im not usually a transfer muppet but I expect activity in January. Darmian and Basti out. In coming I suppose depends on what certain teams do in the champions league. If Monaco don't qualify then I would expect us to go for that full back if reports over our interest are true.

Is there any way we can hijack the Coman deal ? Seems bayern is having doubts in him and Juventus doesnt want him back , so can we act somehow and get him to US ??

Will be a perfect replacement for both Young and Depay

I want another quality cb. If Darmian goes need a good rb too. A wide player would be good too. Can't see any of that happening.

The best window imaginable for me would be nobody coming in and selling Rojo. We have the players just need to get them playing like a team, more incomings won't help

Edit for the muppets in here....

GRIEZMANN!!!!!!!

Johnstone was just given a new contract so romero leaving would make sense.

Don't really want griezmann now we've got Pogba.

Darmian, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Rooney out.

New extension for Johnstone till 2035
