Manchester United express an interest in Diafra Sakho

Why was this tweet deserving of a seperate thread?

At the end of the day the strikers in our Plan A list are simply not available - Muller, Kane, Benzema

So we will probably have to resort to Plan B which I expected all along and sometimes the low profile low key strikers have turned out to be the best over the years.....Solskjaer, Ronaldo, Henry, Cantona, Yorke etc

The likes of Berahino and Sakho could well be ready for the next level

If we are just aiming for someone of this ilk we might as well have gotten Ings on a free, they are the same level and Ings is younger and English.

He's been sent off?

The press see we've let go of Falcao, RVP is being sold, likewise Hernandez and are linking us with any half proven striker in the PL. I still think we'll push for Kane or Muller, I'd like to see us sign Lacazette though.

That's a brilliant point. I'm quite confused right now though, because the tweet isn't even showing for me.

I don't think we'll be in the market for a Rooney replacement, the captain of this team. We need our own version of Remy.

No disrespect to Rooney but the guy isn't a 20+ goal scorer that he once was back in his day. Regardless that he's captain, If there's a striker in the team pushing the goal figures more than Rooney, he's rightfully should be in front of Rooney. It's as simple as that. Due to last season lack of goal ratio, its clear United are in serious need of a goal scorer that can put them in 20+ each season. Without that type of player United could struggle next year. Rooney is a great player but 10+ goals a season isn't good enough, especially now with UCL back in the schedule books.

I'd rather we sign some genuine quality to support/challenge Rooney, and then maybe bring him in, similar to Welbeck or Hernandez behind Rooney and RvP.

Kane to Benzema to Sakho?

Value in the market?

3rd choice maybe at a push. Still massively unproven
I may have completely misinterpreted your comment, but you seem to be implying that Kane is better than Benzema? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Agent trying to get him a payrise.

Should have used a Liverpool, not to make the speculation so ridiculous

Ah ok, yeah we were. I read your post as going from Kane to Benzema to Sakho, as if they were getting worse in quality.
I think you can make a logical leap between Kane and Benzema - we'd want them for slightly different reasons but I think they'd both fit in - but not so with Sakho!

Whoever we signed would know that he is going to be 2nd/3rd striker behind Rooney - not challenging for the 1st striker role. Pretty much rules out the Kane/Benzema/Lacazette class of player. Sakho is probably a little better than Remy - not such a bad option for that position if he's prepared to spend a lot of time on the bench.

I agree to an extent but unless Rooney has a real stinker Van Gaal will have no reason to drop him. He's our captain, talisman and his ability is so that he'll always be around the twenty goal mark anyway. With Di Maria, Herrara, Mata and (you'd hope) Depay contributing there's enough goals in them to rival most sides. And besides playing one striker means its unreasonable to expect someone new to come in a starting hitting 20+ when playing second fiddle save injury to Rooney, especially when you look at who's even available in the market.

Judging from some of the reactions to this rumour, some of you must have lost your minds when we signed Saha from Fulham and Chico from Chivas.

Dwight Yorke and Sheringham too

I don't think this is comparable to chicha or saha. This guy looks alright, but wed be buying a very average back up who's injury prone. We could probably find someone similar in Europe for a 3rd of the price if they're just going to compete from the bench

If Fergie was in charge, I'd expect this type of signing.

But with Woody around, no. I'd prefer Austin.
