Manchester United 3:1 Crystal Palace (Tue 19th July, 11:10 UK time)

Scoring goals was never really an issue under Ole though. We found it difficult to defend.
We did struggle against park the bus teams though as ole was all about counter attack. When teams sit deep you need a full back that’s comfortable on the ball and decent at crossing to give us another option and dalot is better then bissaka at that.

Less than 3 weeks to season kicking off and only new player we have blooded is Malacia. 5 PL games in August too, worrying.
Not an issue. Eriksen knows the prem and won’t take him long to settle in with the group.

Very easy opposition, but that's what you want in preseason. You have to say all three goals were really nicely made and taken. The pressing (against an unfit looking team) looked much better. So far so good.

You're being too harsh i think and I'm not particularly a fan of his.

Most of those had the luxury of playing under Fergie as well.

This is a list of mostly great players, because usually that's the bar you have to clear to play many games for United.

I didn't see Duxbury (or Whiteside but was obviously many tiers above), and I rate Lingard above. Who do you think are worse?

Impressed with the first 60 minutes! Thought Sancho, Dalot, Martial and Malacia all played really well. Disappointing performance from some youngsters.

We have 2 games after the tour in Norway and OT

Erikson and MArtinez will feature in both

He was very good in the first half
Agreed. He struggled second halve but that wasn’t really down to him, I think that was because of the amount of changes we made and it unsettled the rhythm of the game.

No.

Martinez has played in ETH's system
Eriksen is prem. proven and will likely slot in decently in this system
Then there is potentially FDJ who knows ETH's system.

Is Robbo’s speech a bit slurred/slowed a la Chris Kamara on MUTV now or does he usually sound like that?

The link up between Rashford, Martial and Sancho is exciting. Trying to ground the excitement somewhat but imagine all 3 of them on form every week....

Whats the worry? we have bought players in the past and played them within a week or buying them in the league etc
The worry is that you can still cut through the midfield like a hot knife to butter and we've not signed a CM yet.

Great 60 minutes. The front four and RB should be settled. All other positions still up for grabs. Hard luck for Fish.

Some really well worked team goals.

Pressing has been good with defenders and midfielders on the front foot.

I like the switches from one full back to the other.

I still don't feel like Rashford and Bruno are quite there. Sancho has been excellent, Martial took his chances and has been decent. We desperately need another attacker though. It is only so long until one of these hits a slump and we're totally screwed. Elanga looks the worst player so far on tour.

Fish looked nervous .. Telles next to him and Savage and Zidane in front probably didnt help..

I hope he gets another chance with a proper CB or experienced midfielders ahead of him .. would be a sad way to end his pre season if this was it...

I already feel as if we’re on a much better footing going into the season than we were last year and we still have 3 pre-season matches to go yet.

While we still have a few players to join, Ten Hag has done a really good job in a short amount of time working with what we already had. Three games in and we already have a reasonable idea of the shape of the team and a consistent selection so far.

In terms of style of play I’m sure that the quality and identity will only improve over the next few weeks as he has more time with the players and also as some of the new signings arrive.

Yes.

They still have to get used to their teammates. Would be amazed if they hit the ground running. These weeks missed in preseason are going to hurt us in August.

We have zero squad depth and that could really feck us this season. Only Savage and Iqbal have impressed from the youth on this tour. We need to be bringing more players in ASAP.

Bruno said the key is that the front 3 are pressing together. That allows the rest of the team to do what they do.

Perhaps Duxbury and phill , I never rated Lingard much either but fair enough if you consider each of them superior to mctom.
But that's not my point because as I said before most of those had the luxury of playing under Fergie, lets give Scott a season (or even half a season) under a proper manager before throwing him under the buss.

No it wasn't. We struggled to score primarily against the better teams, we did better against lower half teams than any other team than City, and we scored a significant majority of our goals from established play. This nonsense about counterattack football under Ole has got to stop.

Modern academy players with as many games as McT, post 1980 as an arbitrary cutoff:

  • Jonny Evans
  • Jesse Lingard
  • Norman Whiteside
  • Marcus Rashford
  • Darren Fletcher
  • Wes Brown
  • Mike Duxbury
  • Phil Neville
  • Nicky Butt
  • John O'Shea
  • David Beckham
  • Mark Hughes
  • Gary Neville
  • Paul Scholes
  • Ryan Giggs
McTominay being the worst of this crowd shouldn't be terribly controversial.
True, but the claim was he is the worst academy player.

Which is just simply not true.

Friendly reminder to manage your expectations. It's only preseason. Remember LvG? Yeah.
