Man Utd?

No idea, who said it is humiliating?
I just normally address them as 'United' or 'Man United', I don't usually say 'Man Utd' but have no problem with that.
A lot of Aussies out here refer to us as 'Manchester' and I hate that, it would piss off the City fans too no doubt....

i heard it from wikipedia.:)

sorry, can anybody tell me the reason why addressing manchester united to "Man Utd" is an humiliation..:boring:

Becuase if you're a real, redder than red fan you'll take the time to say or type Manchester United.... or at least Man Utd....

I hate when people use the term. I signifies to me that they are new comers or bandwagon jumpers and know nothing of the history of the club.

It is set aside for tabloids, their 'journalists' and their readers.

Just say United, everyone will know who you are referring to as there is only one.

I am old school and as a written abbreviation my choice would be MUFC. The PLC tried to take that away from us though. I still have a lot of stuff with MUFC on it, the best of which is my gold MUFC pendant. When talking or discussing football it is either Manchester United or Man Utd. The reason (personally) that I hate the Man Utd tag, is that it gives a lot of retarded feckwits:- Gooners, Citeh, Scouse shit, the license to bastardise it further. (ie manyou!).

UNITED!!!

'Man Utd' is what the ABUs, the cockneys and the clueless call us. If you fit into any of those categories please carry on.

It's United, Man United or just plain Manchester (really pisses off city, that)

I'm sure I've asked before but whats an ABU?

I have to say that when I was a kid (Adams' years ago) we sometimes used "Man Utd", amongst the rest, and didn't know it was offensive. I assume it is something that has just got so over the years. When I was a kid ABUs adn't been invented.

Look it could be worse.. we could be called Man City!

I don't know why, but it just pisses me off hearing people refer to us as "Man Utd" or "Manchester". It just seems so clueless, and I can't pinpoint it.

I always use United or Manchester United.

i hardly ever say 'Manchester United', that's like SIX syllables man! Saying Man Utd will make you live longer.

The term "Man Utd" is rather vulgar. only numpties, kids who dont know any better or ABUs say it.

I cringe everytime i hear it. It's pathetic and unnecessary.
Manchester United, United, or Man United, nothing else.

United is the one I feel most comfortable with and a little less Manchester United. But, mostly I say "We" - this pisses off so many!

United supporters used to use the term Man Utd in the 60's and 70's but it has gradually become a term only used by scousers and ABU's.

i say Man Utd. I'm from Bury.
You see, theirs the difference, my self and as far as i know, all my mancunian mates, have always reffered to us as 'Man United'.

Now you see, Bury is only 10 ish miles out of Mancunia but it could seem a lot further, you lot have diferent terminologies and a different accent.

Travel a little further up to Rawtenstall and it could be a different fkin planet "Eh up cock". LOL

100% Agree with you on that.

I must admit I love it when people call us "Manchester". It winds the City fans up because everyone knows immediately who you mean.
My preference is to just use the term "United", again everyone knows who you mean.

Most of Europe refer to us as "Manchester" and it has the added bonus of pissing off City fans.

Although there are many who simply view the term as being aesthetically lacking, or who feel there are too many connotations between it and those United supporters who jumped on the bandwagon when Ferguson began to bring us success, 'Man Utd' is certainly far older than the Premiership, and it has another dimension to it altogether.

Years ago, certain opposition fans used to sing songs mocking the dead of Munich in far more frequency than they do today, and such songs took many forms. In general, it grew popular to have a sort of play on words between a pseudo-abbreviation for Manchester United, and the phrase 'man, you...'; and what came after the '...you' was a rather disgusting assortment of dark and somewhat evil wit to laugh at the death of the Babes.

So yes, whilst some supporters of this club may consciously try to take on a 'redder than red' appearance by refusing to use the term; somewhat older supporters still view it as fighting words.

Edit: I'm going to explain this a bit better by inventing a really crap line that, whilst nowhere near on par with the disgusting songs sung in the format, somewhat mimic it nonetheless.

Imagine, say, Liverpool supporters singing at Old Trafford to the Stretford End:

'Man, you are shit, and you're gonna win feck all'.

That's the sort of play-on-words the songs had, although they were Munich-themed. The origin of the 'abbreviation' is in such songs.

I've started calling us Manchester. I love it.

But it's always been United, Man United or Manchester United for me. Man Utd seems to be a term mainly used by London Reds.

Scousers are really pissed off because to foreigners the immediate word association with Liverpool is the Beatles whereas with Manchester it is United.
I often wonder if Manchester based fans really understand and appreciate the immense global attraction of United.

The first part is true, and old habits die hard, so many older fans still use it. I would say that "Man Utd" was the most common graffito in those days, seen scrawled across walls and in bogs all over England.
