Man Utd interested in Witsel? | Fergie rumoured to have watched him v Chelsea

Wish we could go back to a time when we had a good idea of who we were after. Newspapers just make stuff up and get everyone's hopes up. Twitter is a problem as well. Any idiot can start a rumour.

Wish we could go back a year and sign Witsel for €8m and then two years back and buy Moutinho for €12m. It'd make our team better.

If Carroll is worth 35m...

Everyone keeps saying about this and taking the piss out of Andy Carroll. He didn't put that price on his head. I bet he wishes he had been sold for half that or less. That price tag might just ruin his career.

Signed for Real Madrid. Now watch the "Modric to Utd" headlines reappear.

I think that without Twitter, the papers would have feck-all to print these days, especially football and celebrity-based stories. Twitter makes fools of formerly-credible sources.

It was rumoured on RI, from what I know. Nothing concrete.

Didn't RI say yesterday that we were selling Hernandez? Not saying they are wrong this time though

According to a Belgian football website, Witsel will stay with Benfica:

http://www.belgiumsoccer.be/nieuws/lees/2012-08-20/vader-witsel-axel-blijft-bij-benfica

Translation:

The father of Axel Witsel has put an end to all doubts. His son remains at Benfica this season despite rumors of a possible toptransfer.

Witsel is very much in demand on the European transfer market and in the Portuguese newspapers, he was already linked to Real Madrid and Manchester United. The press still thinks Benfica will not be able to retain their topmidfielder.

Father Witsel however played down those rumors. "It's only the media engaged in a transfer," said Thierry Witsel in LDH. "We currently accept nothing. Like everyone else, you can see the color of his sweater. Axel remains here, he has another three years on his contract;"

Anzhi has made forcing these days, but it is ultimately the Zenit St Petersburg would be poised to pick up the transfer of Axel Witsel. Barely a year after his arrival, the Red Devil already leave Portugal.
According to our information, the transfer Axel Witsel wants it as a step forward in sports. The agreement between the two clubs yet to be finalized. This should be the case this afternoon. We know that the former player has a Standard clause starting 40 million euros. The Russian transfer window closes on Thursday night in Russia. transfer If this occurs, Axel Witsel would soon be in Belgium to face Anderlecht in the Champions League. In Russia, he will find Nicolas Lombaerts, teammate Red Devils.

According to this link, going to Zenit St Petersburg. They've agreed to pay his 40m Euros Clause.

Transfer Windows in Russia ends on 5th.

Excellent player, and if they're paying his clause it's a great deal for Benfica financially speaking, it's basically what we got for Falcao.

Footballing wise it will be disastrous for Benfica though. They already sold Javi Garcia and didn't replace him, and they can't replace Witsel as the window's closed here. They were already short on midfielders...

Who do you rate more highly?

I like Witsel myself. Made for the premiership imo, bags of stamina, more of an old school box to box midfielder.

Damn, he was one of the few decent CM options left for next summer.

But he's been looking good since 2008 when he, Defour and Fellaini played so well against Everton and Liverpool in the UEFA Cup and all the way up until last year when he was available very cheaply. Surely if we wanted him, we'd have stumped up £8m in 2011, rather than wait for him to sign a contract with a 40m Euro release clause?

It was never going to happen.

Witsel has more to his game than Javi, they have different roles. Javi Garcia is a game destroyer that spends most of his time slightly ahead of the CB's. He adds little offensively, except good heading ability in corners.

Witsel is a more complete player, excellent at keeping possession and the game flowing. Also helps defensively but can't do the role alone like Javi.

The sums quoted for this guy are quite frankly ridiculous. I thought Javi Martinez was overpriced.

Official as well, 40 million euros. So Zenit just spent close to 90 million euros in two players from the Portuguese league.

Well, at least it's good for the Portuguese balance of trade.

Feel sorry for a lot of kids these days who have to suffer with these shit clubs that only happen to sit on a lot of money and take the stars away from the highlights. To them it's normal that a world class player can play in just about anywhere in the world in their prime - not saying that Witsel is a world class act but there are lots of examples at present.

Honestly I don't understand these players. By this you said goodbye to becoming a known name in the history of football. It's like becoming a vice president of a fecking toilet cleaning job. The worst part is the fans though. You can see kids with the PSG logo as they comment on articles like the one I read today about Ronaldo leaving Madrid. They are loving the idea of him playing there just because they need to see transfers - these constant fecking transfers. feck off and die in agony you piece of shit.
