Man City 2020/21 - General discussion

I don't know what it is about them but they're such a boring team. It's a squad stacked full of above average players coached in a very specific way, but there is nobody there and nothing about them that is going to get you on the edge of your seat.

Pep's Barcelona was largely the same, save for the occasional brilliance of Messi and pals. I can't think of any other top team like that.

De Bruyne makes me shit myself every time he's on the ball. Absolute magician. I don't think that's true at all.

When do we begin to worry about them doing the treble? (The actual treble this time!)

Why worry about it? Its going to happen sooner or later and the sport is too different to even compare.

Some guy from dubai has bought 1.8bn worth of footballers, while his sister in law is kidnapped and held prisoner by his pals, and will keep going until the emirates becomes a harmless sunny connotation in the western world and not one associated with slavery, brutalisation of children and harboring of criminals. Their subs are stronger than almost every team, fatigue doesn't have the same effects and they just add to it every year,at the expense of reasonable competition in British football and an inevitable CL or two on the way. Its boringly predictable and self fulfilling. As boring as 17 wins in a row without getting out of second gear much. It's the SPL

They may do the domestic treble. I'm just not convinced they'll do better than a semi-final appearance in Europe. It wouldn't surprise me if Liverpool knock them out again.

How defeatist....they were far better than us when we won our last title as well on paper and for several years prior to that! You only play each team twice. They can’t control our performances against the likes of sheff United and West Brom...which ended our hopes effectively.

Someone should buy you an atlas.

Not really. Every manager they've had under their corrupt owners has won a title. And it's not because they're all such mercurial managers. It's because it's routine. Yes the odd team will spring a surprise, we might be that team now and then, but city have bought it and won't be selling it any time soon

They are unplayable at the moment and have been for the most part of the last decade tbf. A long run in Europe may affect their league games but can’t see them dropping off anytime soon.

How can anything you say be trusted when you make such elementary errors?

People make errors all the time. Some even type the name of the wrong Emirati city occasionally. 'Trust' has nothing to do with it. But by all means seek some pedantic sideshow. You just won't get me engaged in it any more. Go enjoy your teams 17th straight straightforward win,you can choose not to worry about the Internet strangers typo. It's up to you

Nothing compared to SPL buddy. Do you realize that Liverpool had the league wrapped up with games to spare just last season? Your analogies border on hyperbole to be honest. The budget for our goalkeeper is enough to fund teams we regularly struggle with in the league.

They are a horrible set of people but there’s nothing they have done that we couldn’t match. These sugar daddy clubs, some would argue have brought some level of increased competitiveness of the premier league.

As i said few weeks ago this is Pep' s best City team yet. The balance in this team is amazing. They are ready to win everything but will it be possible? Lets wait and see.

It's always funny the way talks of a quadruple come up at this time of year. We know that it's a load of rubbish to even think about such a thing at this stage. But the media love to build up the hype about it knowing that the rest of the country cannot wait for City to fail. The same media that created the whole quadruple topic in the first place will then attack City for failing to achieve it...haha!!!.
The only people I hear talking about the quad are City fans.

The balance.

I think you mean breaking Premiership spending records and having 2 players for every position in congested season.

And rangers won the spl at a canter this year. Every team will go through cycles and the odd winner will crop up.

You don't have to agree with me. But mid table club, plus 1.8bn, equals titles. Every manager their current owner has hired has won a title. And that will continue. This isn't revelatory, it's been clear for some time. Their current manager will surpass 1 billion in spend this summer. And its supposed to be impressive that they diddle the league Cup every year? Okay he's hitting his targets more impressively than others, but 3 titles in 5 years is the bare minimum that outlay would demand from a single manager.

There are outlooks. One can admire and enjoy the football from entertainment point of view, but can also choose not to have any sporting respect for it.

Such a good team. Their football is so fluid. Solid at the back.. clinical going forward. They just have it all. Wouldn’t be suprised if they do the treble!

Yeah but as a city fan pointed out a few pages back, if other clubs can't rotate their squads and dominate games, tough shit. Right?

City usually face a tough league opponent around the CL quarter final game. Should they advance to the round, they have Leeds who aren't the most difficult. The league might be over anyway after the United game.

Just because there’s a lot of money behind the team doesn’t make it a good well balanced team. Incredible defence, and incredible offence. Can happily attack from the left, right and through the middle. Give them a star striker and I just don’t see another team stopping them.

I'll try not to worry too much, thanks.
Have a good night.

Pep is one lucky bastard to have close to unlimited funds, but he is a great coach nevertheless. They look like a proper team.

I'd love to see them against PSG because it doesn't seem like any team is causing City defense much trouble these days. Would be interesting.

I’m not following the German league closely at the moment so not sure if Bayern are playing anywhere near to the standard they were at when they won the champions league last year but this city team against the Bayern of last season would be a hell of a game!

They feel like CL favourites, but you could say that every year. They always sewn to bottle it against a team you would expect them to beat (Monaco, Lyon, Spurs)

I disagree but I think it COULD become his best yet. We have a final transition to make in the front 3 - I think we’re a big step down from Sterling, Aguero and Sanè as it was, but much more solid at the back.

If he replaces Aguero correctly then it’ll probably be his best, particularly if Foden continues to mature. Left back almost doesn’t matter anymore, but Cancelo will take Walkers spot eventually so it’d be nice to finally get a decent LB.

Wasn't really paying attention to their game tonight, my interest in what they do now has been over for weeks thanks to our own doing but in a way I'm relieved I don't have to go through 2018/2019 all over again, shouting at TV screen hoping for any kind of dropped points just to miss out by a single point. That would have been incredibly annoying.

That is the best way to win the title. Being in a proper title race.

They are far away from their last seasons form. Thiago was so important for their balance in the midfield during their CL run, it is reall obvious. Also Perisic, Thiago, Coutinho > Roca, Choupo Moting, Douglas Costa, Sané.... Last seasons squad was probably one of the best, if not best in history of football I think, in terms of depth. One of the Barca squad was maybe better. Neuer , Lewandowski and Coman are completely carrying the team so far
I still think they still are one of the top 3 teams with City and PSG being 1st and 2nd best for now.

the difference this year though is that they found a better balance. I personally never saw them as faovurites in the years before because we knew how sloppy their defence could become at any stage of the game. Now they look rock solid defensively and this is the main reason for me to put them as top favourites for now.

I really want to see them against you (Bayern). Could be such a good tie.

Its a bit like the 90/2000s when you lot won the everything- you were the richest (due to the success of the premiere league), you got the best players, the trophies followed. Groundhog day.

Spending records? Utd have the highest wage bill ever in the history of football and have spent considerably more than City in the last 5 yrs?

Seriously, I really think it would be a comfortable 3:1/4:2 in favour of City. Bayern's defence looks like from a midtable team right now

I said this in the PL thread earlier but City have really killed my enjoyment of football over the last 10 years or so. Congrats to Abu Dhabi for ruining football.
