Man City 2020/21 - General discussion

What are the chances of these lot getting Messi this summer?

When is Pep contact going to finish?
Messi is apparently learning french as we speak, so the answer is no. He will not come to City. Guardiola's contract ends in June 2023.

Really wish Pep would just move into his next project that these lottery winning shites can go back to being somewhat mortal again. Hopefully he bottles the CL again and takes a break from football or something.

You have to admire the way that City blow "lesser" teams away, I wish united did!

Winning by 1 goal most games is giving me grey hairs ;-)

I personally would love to see Messi at City just to see him in England (and close by), our MD is a City fan and gets tickets at work (I have been to a few games as a neutral over the years) so would love to see him play at least once in my lifetime.

I have to say that their stadium puts ours to shame as well, me and the missis haven't been Old Trafford since the 99' reunion and it really is a dump compared to Cities modern ground.

I really like the circular stairs that take you into the ground, it helps keeps the flow of people moving really well.

Think that was denied, no? Messi doesn't even speak catalan so I'd be genuinely surprised if he was learning french.

Genuinely don't want Messi hear. He's too old, his wages would probably upset KDB etc... The best player in the world but the wrong time for us to be going for him and I think the wrong time for him. I think he'll end up with Neymar and Mbappe and possibly Kun at PSG

Yeah I would like a couple of games where we could blow teams away like that as well, however my gut feeling is that this team is still a bit away from being able to do that to the supposed cannon fodder of this league. Need to remember we still have got holes in our team at CB, CDM & RW that need filling before we can produce that kind of showing

I thought there was a newbie section to filter out city gimps posing as United fans?

@croadyman
Don’t encourage it...

Exactly. There was a meeting between Guardiola and Messi last summer in Barcelona. The reports are (if we want to believe the sources) that Guardiola told Messi he should stay at Barca. That means only one thing : City and Guardiola dont want Messi. Not now and not this version of him. Aguero is 100 percent gone in the summer and City will need a new leading striker so my guess is they will go deep after Mbappe or Haaland.

Like I said before West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley are not teams that I was hoping for to take advantage of City missing KDB. He still unavailable for the Liverpool game right? That's probably the game that I can only put my hope but feckin Liverpool 3 points also not doing any positive for us either.

I would also love City to sign Neymar and Mbappe. So next time when fans are allowed back and I visit Manchester I can watch United at OT and crown my trip by watching Messi, Neymar and Mbappe at City’s dream stadium

Excellent Wumming

been to the Ethihad a few times, only in hospitality though. Nice cushions, but it’s really tired. Best thing to see is Ricky Hatton stumbling around like a blithering idiot.

Meh you can’t buy history. If you want luxury don’t go to the football.

City are a solid team, no doubt about that.
But this is how it is if you want to challenge for the title. You have to go out there and beat your closest rival who are normally right up there in terms of ability. We cannot be weak and have to step up our game. It is the next level in our development as a team, and also the hardest. It is as much a mental hurdle as it is physical. During Fergie’s time, we believe we could beat anyone on our day - we need to get to this level of belief before we can consider seriously challenging for the title.

If they keep up this pace against the lesser teams, they win the league. It's that simple. Their results in the big games won't matter much.
They create chance after chance. We haven't even reached the level where we can sustain attacks. For all our form, we have a bit of improvement to to make.

This is one of the differences between them and us since a long time :(:(

Oh Lordy!
Once upon a time they had the tallest floodlights in football! Now it's the best stairs!!
Sod off to the Emptyhad if you like it so much.

I think they know it’s there for the taking if they get anywhere near what they’ve been in the past especially if the dippers shit the bed against Spurs, but “Lads, it’s...”

I think they'll probably win the league, but a dominating win against Allardyce's West Brom means feck all to be honest. Arteta's Arsenal smashed them at the Hawthorns a few weeks ago.

Sigh. Their form is worrying. I think we've all known that if Livepool or City play at their best level we aren't winning the league. So let's hope City hit a roadblock soon.

They are so dominant, it frightens me a lot. When Guardiola's philosophy comes together like this, it simply cannot be stopped.

The worrying part is not their scoring capabilities. They always had that in them. The real issue is they don't seem to be giving up a lot of chances and how do you stop a team which are solid at the back.

I still feel they will hit a blip somewhere during the season. Only thing is will we be able to capitalize on it if they do?

I think they have found the solution for their defense, 9 clean sheets in their last 11 league games. That’s just not purely by luck. They are becoming the heavy favourite to win it thanks to their defense now. I just really hope KDB is still unavailable against both Liverpool and Spurs.

Messi will be short term replacement for Aguero and also to make Man City even more global, so I think it will benefit both football and commercial for your club. And also if you don’t win CL this season, him and Pep in the same team will increase man city chance to win CL next season. Although, Messi probably prefers Paris life style to end his European career than Manchester.

Hard to tell who is winning here. That Adam guy, guy who would go to their games to see Messi or both.

I only see that happening if injuries occur but with the way city play and their fixtures it won't be due to fatigue

After all these years and failed investment after investment (must be nice to have that opportunity) he looks to have finally got it right

Top coach

Why did they suddenly become incredible seemingly out of nowhere? They never concede.
1. Dias amazing leader and organizer.
2. Stones got fit and put his personal troubles behind him. Also he performs better with a partner who chivvies him.
3 Cancelo at RB is a miles better player than Walker
4 Pep reverted to inverted FBs.
And that's just the defence. Be afraid!

They are in crazy good form now. They score goals for fun and defensively they are several steps ahead of the rest. I can't see them having a huge drop in form before the end of the season, so they are definitely the team to beat this year.

That's OK, though. We need the excitement and if we're gonna win the league then I want it to be a proper thriller where we end up besting City or Pool(or both) near the end.
