Mahrez | Signed with City

It's a good signing if it happens, but it doesn't solve the issue which they will have in the middle from where Coutinho would often find spaces and feed Mane and Salah which was often the key when the opposition camp inside the box. That's the first problem. The second one is that losing every "big name" from your last serious title challenge (Sterling, Suarez and Coutinho) isn't the best sign for the club or its ambition.

They will do well to get him, but I doubt it will elevate them much from where they are now currently. Unless they invest further.

I think they will invest more but they do need that deeper more central playmaker. Henri doesn't quite cut it .

Coutinho have had good seasons at Liverpool, but not of them could rival Mahrez 2015-16.

Coutinho is the player which makes everyone around him better, making a team "tick". Mahrez doesn't have that ability.

Good buy, but Coutinho is better.

None of the reliable Liverpool journalists have confirmed this yet, which makes me think it’s best to wait. If Joyce or Pearce say it’s done I’ll believe it.

Nah, it's done mate. The bein sports stuff is on it.

The sheer amount of talk, and there are literally no other teams being mentioned.

It's done. No way I'll be wrong.

Sigurdson went for that price pretty much, I don't remember Glyfi ever winning Player of the year (and pretty comfortably) over far more highly rated players. People are quick to forget he was head and shoulders the best player in the league not so long ago, a league that included Sanchez, Ozil, Hazard and of course Coutinho. I find it baffling how people are so quick to underrate players based on the fact he's not at a top club.

Kante wasn't seen as anything special by people either, hence him going for a relatively cheap price. Few months into playing for Chelsea and people were touting him as the best DM in the world.

Mahrez is an excellent player, one look at his stats playing for bloody Leicester City surrounded by dross should be enough for anyone. I don't believe this Bein report personally, but if true then Liverpool have pulled a blinder selling Coutinho and getting someone arguably better (PC never got remotely close to being POTY, not even for LFC) as well as a cool £100 million spondoolicks. If someone asked me if I'd swap Coutinho for Mahrez AND a hundred mill I'd bite their hand faster than Suarez when he's losing.

Would be good if you hadn't spent all the money..

75m VVD
35m Salah
40m Ox
60m Keita
50m Mahrez

260m

Why not? Liverpool have played with Coutinho, Firmino, Mane and Salah before. I don´t see why Mahrez should not be able to play in midfield (in certain games). His great passing would only be enhanced by playing a little deeper and centrally. That´s what Liverpool did with Lallana and Coutinho, too. They became more dangerous having the whole field ahead of them and more passing options.

As a sidenote I don´t think Barcelone bought Coutinho to play in the front three either. He´s the long-term replacement for Iniesta.
When Liverpool play the fab four, Coutinho usually play in a 3man midfield and occupy the central areas when in possession. Lallana does the same thing too although in a more dynamic way. They are completely different to Mahrez who is a winger and prefer to take the ball to feet, move wide or jink in more similar to Salah in that regard. Mahrez' skillset wouldn't fit in midfield.

Sorry Levy, I missed the Henri joke part. What do you mean? Good old Hendri?

Just remember they will have Keita also next season. Yeah, they will have a good team.

You sound like Nostradamus.

Didn’t mahrez pull something similar last summer? Said he was off to Barcelona then nothing came of it.

IMO his agent is dropping hints and leaking “deals” to gain attention and show he’s available. He obviously wants out of Leicester but will somebody bite? Guess we will have to see.

Klopp caught again....:nervous:

Hopefully this nonsense will stop now that Coutinho’s gone. SAS, SSS and then Fab 4. So cringe

For certain matches, like at home against bottom 10 yeah sure, why not?
Salah, Mahrez and Mane are all right wingers who are more comfortable in wide areas and closer to the opposing box. I think that AM three is missing that 'player in the hole' who links the midfield and attack and picks out the final ball.

Liverpool don't even have a DM for that to work.
This too. This transfer just doesn't seem right. Sure there's no need to spend big on another winger when they already have two and a similar one in Salah? They are also a bit light in midfield and the striking department.

A joke if true and we're letting it happen. Big if, for now.

They’ve spent the Coutinho money already on VvD and Keita. Quote me on that.

I think Leicester, knowing Liverpool are currently flush, should be selling for more than 50m. Which makes me think bein sport are talking bollocks.

As for Mahrez coming to United? No chance, skilful as he can be, he’s also a bit of a lazy fecker & Jose likes his players to put a shift in. Think Jose would even play the likes of Young as a RW before signing Mahrez.

I meant Henderson , I think we agree they are building a very good final third team but they need a more technical player deeper.

Surprised why United are not after him considering he is a proper counterattacking player and we lack proper RW. Only reason i feel we are not after him is we have someone better lined up and have already planned on our Summer spending , if thats the case then I am all for not signing him.

Mahrez wouldn't make sense for Liverpool. A right winger when their now new best player is a right winger? Nope.
Hope Jose signs him, he's everything we need.

Apparently Woodward and Mourinho should leave over this and the club has gone to the dogs. All according to @beingshe7don

I said Mourinho and Ed Woodward haven't addressed any of our weaknesses while Liverpool have been very active despite playing much better football than we have. Yes, they are below us in the league table but the matter of fact is that they are doing something about it. They lacked a quality CB and they signed Van Dijk. They probably don't need Mahrez but their attack is already better than ours and they are strengthening whereas we have depended on Lingard to bale us out.

If we wanted Mahrez we'd have bought him last summer or earlier.

Isn't his agent Kia Joorabchian ?

Might be a non starter, he's Coutinho's agent.

Is there a website that has release clauses? I think that´s the smart way to go in such a situation. Everybody will be looking to rip you off. Inigo Martinez release clause is allegedly €35M. I think that makes a lot more sense than to pay €100M+ for Lemar. Brandt has a release clause of €17M in the summer. Offer Leverkusen €30M now and you could get him.

Just goes to show that you shouldn’t believe anything until an official announcement is made.

The Thiago and Vidal sagas proved this too.

Agree with this. We badly need to fill that RW and mahrez is available and proven.

We can argue that we didnt buy him last season because:
  1. we have other player (mata/mkhi/martial/rashford) that we think can play as RW. The fact say the opposite.
  2. We have other important position to fill (CF) and it needs big money
  3. We still not sure if his performance is consistent enough.
  4. We spent the whole transfer window chasing bale.
This transfer window, he is available and shows in this league that his one of the best for that RW role that we badly needed. Wonder why we dont even try to sign him.

Im affraid it was like last season when we search for RB, we ended up getting darmian while clearly clyne and bertrand were availlable.

We never do everything in a simple way.

Can we calm down yet? Pearce along with Joyce and Reddy is solid on Liverpool transfer news.

I don't know why people are getting so worked up to begin with, you'd think the story was that Liverpool were getting Dybala or Sanchez, not Mahrez. The fact his agent is that scumbag that messed us around with Tevez is likely part of the reason we aren't interested in doing business.

Nah I dont believe it anyway. Leicester wanted 50m off Roma for him in the summer when no-one else was interested and Roma wouldn't stump up, now we're linked they're not stupid. It just adds another 25-40m on top. The problem we have now with receiving a massive fee, every club will try it on. Deals won't be as shrewd and straight forward as some of these 'reports' are suggesting.
