Mahrez | Signed with City

We don't have a RW in our entire squad, yet here we have one tried and tested in the Premier League, at a good age, full of skill, and on the market for a respectable £50m, but we don't seem to be interested. He has 7 goals and 10 assists in the PL this season and we know he is capable of winning Player of the Year when playing for a good functioning team.

This will be another Mane situation, where it is obvious he is a decent player ready to make the step up and we watch that step up unfold at a rival club.

The usual guys will be in here saying we are overrating Mahrez, but then please tell me who United should sign that is better than Mahrez?
He's below 6ft and doesn't track back.

Guys you can talk sour grapes all you want but having a forward line choice with Salah, Mane and Marhez included is a pretty potent choice. Showing great ambition at the very least.

I obviously don't rate him as highly as some of you do.
We don't know our plans.
Very happy for us to miss out on him.

Probably be a decent signing, but he’s not a £50m player. Maybe I’m just getting old, but for that money you should still be expecting one of the best players in their position.
Coutinho is hardly better than him. It's debatable at least.

Indeed shame we dont try to bring him. Well, if suddenly there is news Ozil come to United, I will be happy. :D
With the wages Arsenal have already put out there, I think Ozil´s options are realistically already down to United and Arsenal. Little doubt in my mind.

As much as that sickens me, it's probably true.

Wingers are supposed to get us off our seat and help stick the ball in the back of the net, not camp in their own half and help fullbacks defend.

If Liverpool can get both Mahrez and Lemar i'd concider their squad and forward options improved even with losing Coutihno.

Who are talking sour grapes? Most are pissed we didn't go for him, and others like me really don't care and think we can do better.

Like i said earlier, it isn't like our lack of a RW is a mystery to our management. If we passed on Mahrez we have someone else identified.

Surely they couldn't afford both? Be great business if so.

We know it's a good singing. All 3 can't play at once though and still a downgrade on Coutinho if we compare in basic terms.

It's the as what people said about Salah, "no loss" Marhez is a real talant playing in a pretty average team who in the last 2 seasons have been in a managerial mess.

Coutinho ****s all over Mahrez. Mahrez has had one great season, and been pretty good this season.

i don't see how Liverpool will line up, will they move to 4231 and play one of Mahrez, Salah or Sane as a 10?

Sigurdson went for that price pretty much, I don't remember Glyfi ever winning Player of the year (and pretty comfortably) over far more highly rated players. People are quick to forget he was head and shoulders the best player in the league not so long ago, a league that included Sanchez, Ozil, Hazard and of course Coutinho. I find it baffling how people are so quick to underrate players based on the fact he's not at a top club.

Kante wasn't seen as anything special by people either, hence him going for a relatively cheap price. Few months into playing for Chelsea and people were touting him as the best DM in the world.

Mahrez is an excellent player, one look at his stats playing for bloody Leicester City surrounded by dross should be enough for anyone. I don't believe this Bein report personally, but if true then Liverpool have pulled a blinder selling Coutinho and getting someone arguably better (PC never got remotely close to being POTY, not even for LFC) as well as a cool £100 million spondoolicks. If someone asked me if I'd swap Coutinho for Mahrez AND a hundred mill I'd bite their hand faster than Suarez when he's losing.

If Marhez can get back to his form of 2 seasons ago, yes maybe a big if, they won't miss Coutinho much. They still have money to spend as well.

Salah, Mahrez and Mane is a class front three.
I doubt all three could start together. Salah and Mahrez are similar players, position-wise and to an extent, style-wise. It looks unbalanced to me, especially without a striker.

They won't play as a front 3. All 3 of them are strongest on RW.

Yeah but mane has been playing from the left and Mahrez can play behind the striker. Salah on the left.

And in tougher matches one of them goes to the bench for a midfielder.

Maybe. I rate Mahrez really highly and I wanted him at United, but I still think Coutinho is easily a level above.

What if no one is in mind.
Remember our handling of central midfield after Hargreaves injuries. Its Mourinho who has handled our central midfield really well.. Matic and Pogba.
Moyes Fellaini, Lvg not to mention who he brought.

Yeah, and Mourinho will be the one handling the RW as well, not Moyes or LvG.

Why not? Liverpool have played with Coutinho, Firmino, Mane and Salah before. I don´t see why Mahrez should not be able to play in midfield (in certain games). His great passing would only be enhanced by playing a little deeper and centrally. That´s what Liverpool did with Lallana and Coutinho, too. They became more dangerous having the whole field ahead of them and more passing options.

As a sidenote I don´t think Barcelone bought Coutinho to play in the front three either. He´s the long-term replacement for Iniesta.

Good signing for Liverpool and probably the best choice they could've made this winter after losing Coutinho, who will be hard to replace but Mahrez will be very good. Wish we took the initiative and signed him instead considering we have zero natural attacker on the right side. Unfortunately, it would've made too much sense for us to sign him.

When has Mahrez played at #10? You don't spend €50m on a player to shoehorn him into a different position.

If Kloop can get them all interchanging in a coherent way it would be an absolute nightmare to pick up and defend.

I think I've seen him play for Leicester there with gray on left and Albrighton on the right.

In any case not too big a deal to play as a 10 in a pacy free flowing attack like Liverpool's.

Coutinho have had good seasons at Liverpool, but not of them could rival Mahrez 2015-16.

It's a good signing if it happens, but it doesn't solve the issue which they will have in the middle from where Coutinho would often find spaces and feed Mane and Salah which was often the key when the opposition camp inside the box. That's the first problem. The second one is that losing every "big name" from your last serious title challenge (Sterling, Suarez and Coutinho) isn't the best sign for the club or its ambition.

They will do well to get him, but I doubt it will elevate them much from where they are now currently. Unless they invest further.

None of the reliable Liverpool journalists have confirmed this yet, which makes me think it’s best to wait. If Joyce or Pearce say it’s done I’ll believe it.

Liverpool play a 433 and it is essential for the pressing. Do you think they'd switch to a 4231?

We have deep conversations about Pogba being suited to a midfield 2 v 3 yet theres formations on here nonchalantly moving Salah to striker and Mahrez as a 10.
Yeah, feck it. Why not?
