Mahrez | Signed with City

First of all, I do no see everything as Jose vs Pep. There are things both managers are good at and there are few things in which one is different/better than other.

I think Pep has brought more than his fair share of youngsters in his relatively short career. Regarding Roberto, Deulofou - they were not regular but they got a crack, they got a fair chance, and thats what is needed. Its not like a youth has to be regular instantly to be called that he was brought on by a particular manager.

Reagarding youth graduates from City and us, I am sure we are producing more at the moment, it was like that 5 years ago and I doubt its going to change in just 2-3 years. BUt this is Pep's second season, I think we will see more youngsters play under him in seasons to come ( diaz and Foden can get a fair share of games) and for us, I reckon Angel Gomes and Tahith will get chance.

Fair enough we'll have to wait and see I guess. I just contend the fact he's seen as a great 'youth' manager at the moment when his career so far suggests feck all to that effect. Not slating him by the way, he's an excellent coach.

Really don't mind this one. He is very good, but not world class and not an improvement on what they already have. Sure, it's great to have him as an option on the bench, but he won't bring anything more to City imo.

Just hope Leicester fleece them as much as they can.

So plenty in this thread, myself included, rates him highly and wanted United to sign him.

Let me guess, now that City and Pep are interested, more people suddenly rate him? I haven't read the thread so sorry about jumping to assumptions but I can just imagine this.

Wow to the people asking what will happen when Sane comes back from injury.. Mahrez is not a Sane replacement but a second option after Alexis Sanchez failed transfer for another forward who can play basically everywhere in attacking positions..

Cith have now upped their offer to £55m, obviously they are not that serious

They clearly forgot that VVD cost £75m in this window. In the same window, I expected more than that for Leicester's best player who has been very good this season and not long ago won PFA Player of The Year.

What hole would he be plugging? City dont have the room to register them all, they bought B. Silva in the summer.

Mahrez is more experienced and more complete to be fair. They are both good players but Mahrez can keep Sane out, its not out of the question.

I come here in peace. The only thing I would like to say is that I wouldn't view this as Pep wanting to throw all this money at Mahrez because of Sane's injury. Pep and City's board have looked at accelerating transfers this month for a multitude of reasons (World Cup this summer, transfer prices already being very high and only going up, a shortened window to bring in players in the summer, still being in all four competitions, and FFP 2.0 looming) as opposed to waiting for some of these targets in the summer, which shows with paying the release clause for Laporte and trying to get the Fred deal done as well.

We all know Pep has been interested in bringing in another forward. Trying to sign Sanchez made that obvious. It is a lot of money to spend in January (Mahrez + Laporte) but it looks like Pep has identified his alternative to Sanchez. If he were to sign for City tomorrow, it would really only leave Fred (or an alternative midfielder) for the summer. My point is that Pep wanted another attacking player in the squad already, Sane's injury just made him turn his focus from prioritizing Fred to prioritizing Mahrez.

Stop being so rational and making logical arguments pal.

I say we make a big offer and negotiate with the player just to pull out at the last minute. It'd make Peps transfer window.

Can't see this happening. Leicester arent desperate for the cash, would be losing a massively key member with the second half of the season coming, and city arent going to be offering "turn your head" money given their initial offer.

I don't think we have resolve our problem at the right side of midfield. Does Jose has a plan in the summer for the right? If his target include Lucas or Mahrez, then I think he should buy them now. I don't see Mata, Rashford or Lingard as our solution on the right. For this side to be at the very best, we need a right attacking player.

I like Mahrez. He’s seemed to have found form again. Not afraid to take people on and is creative enough.

55mill though is steep. Roma could have got him for 30mill if they didn’t hardball so much last summer. Even with the transfer inflation, he shouldn’t be more than 35-40mill max. I’d be happy to go for him at that price, anything more is just not right.

Are they just buying someone for the sake of buying someone?
City in tandem with Guardiola come across exactly like this. He's got that twitchy intense mad stare, leg constantly tapping the floor -you know he'd be a junkie or a failed artist/politician in different circumstances. And the owners have the money. Buying players is a consumer addiction for the current incarnation of City. And what gall! The fecking sleight of hand he pulled during the Sanchez transfer to imply that others are capable of recklessly high payments.

Roma offered £35m and we laughed at them, the market has changed you’re not getting a Mahrez for that now, stop the football snobbery just because he plays for “little Leicester” we were recently named the 14th richest club we can’t be bullied financially any more

He was a junkie in Italy, he was a junkie when he returned to Spain ( withe the help of his 'doctor' friend) , no doubt he is still a junkie. The real question is, how many of the City payers are taking the little pink pills he had the Barca players taking?

City want to accelerate the buying of players because of the new £90m net limit on transfers about to be brought in by UEFA. However the buying of Mahrez is just a knee jerk reaction to Sane's injury. Pep cannot fail, he just cannot be allowed to. Looking at him at the press conference it was obvious he is on the little pink pills again, just like in Italy and Barca. How many City players are following his example?

Pep knows when to go into ramble mode.

Literally squirming. The thought in the back of his head all the while he's rambling: I spend billions getting harder to ever hold any moral high ground I spend billions getting harder to ever hold any moral high ground I spend billions getting harder to ever hold any moral high ground

Probably an unpopular opinion but I'd have most likely have preferred him to Sanchez. Sanchez' best position is on the left, where we have Martial, and we really need someone quality to play on the right and Mahrez would've fit the bill perfectly. Now we either play Mata or fit Sanchez in there. All these people saying that 'he's not all that' must live on another planet because he's been great this season and was brilliant in their title winning season. Same kind of names I see that were saying that Shaw's done at United because 'he lacks mentality', when clearly that was a load of bollocks and completely disregards technical ability.

It's a shame because I think he'd be very good at City. He's got very good close control, passing, decision making and finishing, which would see him fit in easily there. They already have a stack of attacking talent better than us and this would deepen that even more. Price wise I thought £50m would do it earlier in January, but I guess VVD and Coutinho have skewed perceptions again (trickle down from Neymar in the summer). Looks like it'd take around £75-90m to get him, which whilst pricey is like asking would he be as impactful as Lukaku or Pogba in our team? In my opinion yes, he could be.

This is stupider than me saying Kane's only got 3 years left in him.

Your argument is predicated on the assumption that City will not blow a fortune in the summer. This is simply an unrealistic and unprecedented assumption. City is likely to spend more than every other club in the summer, as they have done every transfer window since the oil state took over.

What's impressive about Pep is that he has somehow accelerated this spending! PayPal Guardiola indeed.

What about young players from City academy? Doesn't he have any responsibility in developing young players and integrate them to the squad? Or there will be excuses for everything Pep does even signing back up payers for more than 60 Million?
