I mean, the science would probably suggest you’re wrong and also our own awareness is less perceptive than other people’s so likely others could’ve noticed you were still showing the effects and you might not have.
Not saying you’re wrong and you were showing but worth noting that perception differs from reality.
I do wonder what’s going on with Maguire though cause there’s something seriously amiss. Might as well explore every possibility on a free forum.

Season. You didn’t do it and allowed us to play football, which we went on to win that game. With Maguire, you can’t control the press, as he is slow to accelerate and has the mobility of a road cone whilst 1 on 1. You need other players to compliment different systems, as he’s more than adequate in some games. The best teams need pressing higher up and you can’t do that with Maguire in the team.
As for the drinking thing, most elite athletes don’t drink during a season at all, as these little % gains help fitness, agility, reactions etc. The game has evolved since the Keane days and he wouldn’t get away with that now. Players smoked as well at one time, can you imagine them getting top marks on a VO2 max test now. The sport is a lot more professional now, that’s why the wire athletes have personal trainers and dieticians.

Kounde's a talent, but I don't really rate him higher than Maguire right now. Still young however so plenty of potential.

Utd would be mad to sell Maguire. At the very least he's a decent centre half and at best he's world class. Centre halves of his quality are hard to come by and I can't quite believe a Utd forum would even consider this.

We need some serious coaching in defending low crosses/cutbacks from the byline, especially on Shaw/Maguire's side. Shaw scarcely ever blocks the cross/is out of position and Maguire never knows when to push out and prevent the cut back - it like there's a magnet pulling him towards the goal.
I think many would be shocked at how many goals we have conceded like this this season. Conversely of course, we never score goals in the same manner.

He was poor against Villareal, really showing up his weakness' when we start pressing higher up the pitch. He needs to be in a defensive playing team, so his opponent does not have much space and he has plenty of support.

I remember about 5-6 years ago Phil Jones was grading out statistically one of the best CB's in the world. His whoscored grade was always off the charts.
Stats aren't important for a CB - They have far more bearing on playing style rather than effectiveness.
Can’t understand why he played yesterday against Villarreal when he is suspended for the next few PL games. Surely Carrick should have used the opportunity to bring in Bailly and give him the game time instead. Unless he (Carrick) is counting on a miracle that Varane will be back for Chelsea and play him instead. Either way we will be stuck with a player that is not match fit against Chelsea. Poor planning indeed.

Because it was a game that we needed a result in. When you need a result you don't switch out your best defender just because he won't be available in the next game. In fact, that's exactly why you do play him, knowing he will miss one game on the weekend
