Maguire | he stays!

Idc about varane being injured we still need to sell maguire and bring someone else in who can play how we want to

If he stays, he’s essentially called it time on his career. He will hang around to receiver his pay check and then probably end up in the States or in Saudi.

I doubt either will want him in 2 years, he either goes to West Ham or takes a drop to Championship or below next year.

Behave like Ronaldo, get shit on by fans.

Behave like Dean Henderson, get shit on by fans.

Behave like Maguire, be loyal and stay on, get shit on by fans.

United is really the most toxic club.
What an odd comment.

If any of those players, had pulled off even 10% of what they did and what they have delivered here ( Ronaldo in 2nd term) in some other club, they would be hounded out of the club.

Ronaldo at its prime was booed by Madrid fans who demand highest quality all the time.

Too much noise for him to not make a move before the end of the window. Don't forget, the manager has had multiple opportunities to play him since the season started but he's chosen not to, he even shifted Martinez over to Maguire's side and played Lindelöf at left CB yesterday. If that doesn't say 'feck off' I don't know what does.

Hey ChatGPT, can you write me a forum post that shows I'm massively out of touch with everyone? Thanks

It is depressing that this guy is one injury away from being a starter and this early into the season... Shaw's injury has effectively cost us in two positions.

Not so sure I think ETH will do everything he can to not start him in games, Assuming we sign Evans then he'll likely start over Maguire, and I could see him been creative further still if he really has to be. I think he'll tolerate having Maguire coming on with 10-15 minutes to go, but that's it.

I'm hoping he is on his way this week, best thing for everyone.

What do You mean "shifted Martinez over to Maguire's side"?
Yesterday Lindelof played RCB. As a cover, he fills in the position missing, not to disorganise the backline.
Same goes when Martinez went off vs Wolves. Lindelof played LCB, just to keep Varane in his preferable position.

For parts of the game yesterday it looked like Lindelöf and Martinez had swapped sides or were interchangeable in their positions. Maguire has been told he isn't playing because he can't play LCB and has to play RCB as backup for Varane. Then Varane goes off and he see's Lindelöf playing on the left and the right of defence. Slap in the face is it not?

Slap in the face since Shaw started over him.

WHU remain interested in both Maguire and McTominay according to one of the better WHU inside sources.

I don't think Moyes interest has ever gone away. There have been rumblings that Zouma may attract a bid from SA, especially given he is an open Muslim.

Getting Maguire in to replace Zouma would make a lot of sense. However it is to my understanding dependant on Zouma leaving, we simply don't have the money left over otherwise.

Watch a loan to buy, I've been saying that for a whole and I still think that is probably the most realistic solution for all parties.

Would make a bad transfer window to a fantastic one if we could sell him eventually haha

Stated there’d be a scramble at the end of the window when leverage was determined… unbelievably (not really), things swung your way as we’re unable to do anything until we’re rid of the player(s). You’ll probably offer us less now and offset more of the wage loss. Maguire and you guys are likely to come out of this happy.

I think the plan is to go for a controlling #6 next summer. Someone who is comfortable playing on the half turn against the opponent's press and progressing the ball forward. And I think that player will be coming into replace Casemiro.

In the meantime it's become evident that the plan was to develop Kobbie Mainoo in a deeper role. And it'll be interesting to see how that plays out once Mainoo returns from injury.

Eh, it'll never not seem weird to me to see a midfield with 2 aging and talented but rather chaotic players in Bruno and Casemiro and not go into this summer focused on getting a calm type to play between them. Shame we didn't sign Bissouma before Spurs. He seems like that type of player and his transfer fee now looks very very reasonable.

But yeah, ideally Mainoo develops into a quality starter. Odds are generally against that, though.

Not sure we'll find it any easier to get the magical De Jong type next summer. They don't make enough of them.

Bruno 29 next month. Casemiro 31. They are not old. The Mount signing baffles me but ETH obviously wanted him badly. We absolutely need at least one more in this week in midfield hopefully Amrabat. We look equally awful up front which is a worry.

The gossip talk from London is possibly exploring a loan... Not sure how that would work, I think he needs a 1:1 replacement regardless of opinion.
Another thing from the grapevine : Might be more keen on WH than commonly reported.

Plenty of players have had pretty drastic declines from 30 onwards. 31 wouldn't be old for a Modric or Xavi type midfielder, but Casemiro's body will have been put under far more strain in his career due to both the nature of his role in the team and also his build.

I'd imagine his decline will accelerate if we don't find him cover or a partner who can share some of his increasingly heavy workload.

Yeah doesn't help because need to fund Todibo

You said we gave the DoF job to a head scout, which isn't true. He was never a head scout.

Fine pedant, "head of football performance". The points the same, they took years to give the job to a guy who was already there.

If we move Maguire, Henderson and DVB, it is a very successful summer. Hopefully we get in a CB and MF, let's start building some depth. Amrabat, Mainoo and Casemiro as the main 2 with Eriksen and McTominay as sub. Mount to rotate with Bruno, Garnacho as Rashford back. Amad to backup Antony, Martial to backup Hoijund. I think we can manage to be competitive this season. Tolido and Lindelof to back up Varane and Martinez. Looks at nice team.

There's a big difference between the head of development and the head scout. The head of development is basically the DoF and Murtough was the DoF at youth level and he put in place the recruitment structure at youth level where he appointed David Harrison as the head of youth scouting to oversee the recruitment at youth level. Harrison was at Man City previously and his role as the head of scouting at youth level is very different to the role of the person who is the head of performance, which is another title which describes a football director, DoF, head of football etc.

And when he was promoted to the first team he was operating within a structure put in place by Ed Woodward who had Bout & Lawlor directing the recruitment with the manager also operating with his own people when it came to recruitment. So my argument always was that you had to allow him to restructure the recruitment structure at first team level and appoint his own people or you'll be judging him on the work of a manager and head scouts put in place by someone else. But most on here don't have a clue about how a recruitment structure functions and hilariously think that a DoF just goes about signing players on his own whim.

Little clubs like Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig operate differently to United but have the advantage of being financially doped up by billionaire owners who have put vast amounts of money into the aforementioned clubs to make them relevant. It's much easier to be a DoF under the RedBull ownership compared to United due to how wealthy the RedBull ownership is compared to the Glazers and the lower expectations that come with a club like RB Leipzig who have struggled to top Dortmund consistently, nevermind Bayern. It's not difficult to be a DoF at the RedBull clubs because the ownership has provided the conditions for the football people to thrive. And how they've done that is by owning 6 other clubs not named Leipzig and Salzburg which gives their scouts a greater scope to stock-pile talent in almost every continent in the world.

Paul Mitchell was a head scout who was given the role of DoF at Monaco and he did a below par job. He almost got fired in his first season and in his second season Monaco finished 6th and didn't even come close to making the champion's league.

I will support any DoF who is given the gig at United. But the DoF role isn't as straight forward as most of you guys think. A club can appoint me to oversee recruitment and I would bring in the young exciting players but would fans show the patience required for those young players to develop like what happens at the Red Bull clubs or Brighton who have a strategy that doesn't necessarily involve winning trophies but rather their aim is to develop and sell players for a profit whilst developing a proactive attacking play style? I don't think you would and in the current EPL where nation states and wealth funds are breaking FFP rules with impunity, it's sensible to re-evaluate your expectations under a ownership that doesn't want to win but wants to instead extract dividends and make a profit on their asset.

Screw all three of them.

You could just admit you were wrong.

I was wrong when I said he was Head scout but Head scout vs Head of football performance seems pretty pedantic. The point was it took them years to appoint someone already here. And he said I made it up which was wrong
