Maguire | he stays!

Not convinced Todibo is capable of being slightly worse than Maguire in a United shirt. It takes some doing. Would he lose pace and agility overnight when transferring from Nice? Otherwise I don't see it. Even Lindelof looked significantly better than Maguire of late.

I think that's pretty much spot on. With Onana, Martinez, Shaw and Varane (and a right back), we want to sit higher up the pitch as we have the speed to cover, ball playing ability and sweeper-keeper. It's transformative. Having Maguire as one of the defenders is asking for trouble as any manager with any sense will target him for a ball over the top for quick players to chase. It's why Terry was terrible under Villas Boas but reverted to world class the season after - a high line does not suit all types of defenders, just as a low block does not suit all types either.

This is one of those ones. We’ve rejected £30m if we get more it’ll look like genius negotiating, if the deal falls it’ll look like incompetence.

I believe it’s a risk we have to take for the long term. Yeah we might end up stuck with Maguire, yeah if he doesn’t get sold this summer then next year or in the winter it’ll be half the price or a loan. But we can’t undo 10 years of over paying and underselling without walking away from one or two deals, both buys and sales.

Now ideally on the buy front we could walk away from players we have no real interest in actually buying. Eg make a £50m offer for a player we know is valued at £80 go up to £65m then do a City and pull out.

Agree. We are not in dire need of selling now, even if we could use some funds for more players and getting rid of high wages and negative attention. We are talking about selling our 4/5th choice CB and backup midfielder. On the other hand West Ham are in dire need of new players with little time to find suitable players before the season starts.

We sell too cheap because we are too greedy when the players still have value. We could have sold Henderson for a bunch of money years ago, same for some academy players. But when the players have some value, we either refuse to sell them or put absurd prices (like in this case), then keep those players past their expiry dates and then wonder why we have to sell cheap or loan them when no one wants them anymore. While those players are on double the wages they would get somewhere else.

Smart clubs sell players when their stock is high. We refuse to do so, give higher wages than they should be on, so no wonder we eventually sell too low.

Think you are right - sometimes letting players go when the stock is high is the right thing to do from a team perspective. Is that player key for the team, is he going to improve further, or will the team benefit from investing that money elsewhere.

With Henderson there was probably discussions about him becoming first choice, which he screwed up with that idiotic interview of his - what was he thinking? Few managers want those types of players... But when that was done, they should have just sold him straight away.

Deal worth 30m? Didn't we reject that one a few days ago? Or did the journalists conveniently forget to add addons and salary packages when there's an outgoing Utd player?

Great news for all involved

I actually think he will do well for them - pressure off and don't they play with a back 3?

Right this second, just got tickets for Queens of the Stone Age at the same time I've seen this. What a minute!

This would be the best news of the window.. 30m is fantastic piece of business.

Is it possible to put money on him scoring a bullet head from a corner against us yet?

Likes of Paddy Power might have something as specific as that, but you'll definitely get him as a scorer fir/last/anytime as usual.

fecking hell! Didn't expect anyone to cough up what we'd ask for him this summer at all.

It's the best for all involved.

Maguire really isn't a bad player but he can't fit into the Ten Hag system and he's done as a United player. He'll do well for West Ham and for Moyes.

I wish him all the best.

End of a (banter) era.

Will be great if he bangs in a few crucial headers against some of our rivals after the battering he’s taken the past couple of years. No doubt he’ll get one goal all year and it’ll be against us.

He'll be good for West Ham. Even with Rice gone, they'll be a compact team who will play fairly deep and utilise the counter attack well. He won't be expected to be on the ball so much and play through a press. They have some good transition players, like Bowen, who he'll be expected to hit it long to, more often than not.

If they also sign Alvarez, along with McTominay or another like JWP/Gallagher, then I think they'll actually be a really tough team to break down next season. They'll also be able to physically overpower a lot of teams, especially in midfield.

Agreed, and if you add a decent striker to those players they will do good i think aswell.

He played his best for us when we played a deep block under Ole. I really do think he’ll be fantastic at West Ham.
I can see him making a move to Chelsea or a Spurs in the next 1/2 seasons as a cheap option with experience

Hm it would not surprise me. Premier League teams love experienced players in the squads usually.

I wish him well and good luck atleast.
