Madrid are preparing a £95m bid for Rooney

Don't be so blinkered. A world record fee plus a ready made replacement, we'd be laughing. Rooney is a good player but he isn't irreplaceable and certainly not "priceless". Should add Higuain isn't a Real Madrid flop either and although Benzema has had a bad year in a new country in an unfavourable system, it's not surprising. He made the biggest mistake of his life going to Madrid as would Rooney if he went there too.

Only Ferguson is priceless at the club.

A world record fee you say? Well with that we could buy all manner of new players, oh wait, no, we got that last year and did very little with it.

Neither Higuain or Benzema could replace Rooney at United, and I'm a very big fan of Higuain. Rooney gives more to the team than goals and it's not blinkered to say he's better than either of them. Money means feck all in this instance.

I am of course assuming the money won't be going to pay off the debt. We could have brought players last year if we wanted to, a heck of lot of them went to Inter Milan and helped them win the Champions League.

I agree Rooney is better than Higuain and Benzema but not by more than £80m. And who knows we might actually see Berbatov perform without playing alongside Rooney and with someone with a bit more pace.

Sorry mate even for Higuain plus £80 which would actually be spent I'd still be reluctant to let Rooney go.

Fortunately we don't have to worry about it :)

You think Benzema/Higuain are faster than Rooney?!

What? The bid or Rooney being swayed by the offer?

If it's the former I wouldn't be 100% shocked to see it happen.

I more meant that it might happen, but even a bid is unlikely considering the comments from Mourinho and others at Madrid in recent times.

Yeah I could be wrong mind but I think all the foot injuries have caught up with Rooney. I look like a fool given his goal against Arsenal

True. I think I'd be reluctant to let him go for any price but that one would lessen the blow a bit.

Every player has his price and Rooney is no different. I refuse to subscribe to the theory that football at United will all over sudden come to an end were he to move as some are faintly alluding to in this and other threads.

That being said, there isn't a chance in hell that he will be going anywhere else besides South Africa this summer.

i actually believe rooney would never leave.
Not for any price.

Because we're bigger than Valencia, Bordeaux, Napoli.

Very high-horse-ish view. Plus, many would argue that Madrid is bigger than United, esp. in the Latin countries. Point remains: we take the best players, others try to take the best players

If it was true then they'd be daft to turn it down.

£95m for 1 player is insane. Even Rooney is not worth £95m to us. We could strengthen the entire team with that money including a world class striker.

That said, it wont happen.

the money won't be invested in the squad, it only goes to the interest payments. we are becoming a selling club.

That's ludicrous. 95million plus 2 players valued around the £60m mark?

Of course its ludicrous, for us to sell Rooney under any circumstances they’d need to make a ludicrous bid, hes our best player by a street and we under no circumstances want or need to sell him, this is nothing like Ronaldo, Rooney is happy here so wont be angling to leave.

If Madrid want him then not only do I want us getting world record money but also 2 ready made striking replacements.

Of course it wont happen, but the point was that’s the sort of ridiculous offer it should take for us to even consider selling him.

Bollocks. REal Madrid are very good at doing transfers. SAF wouldn't sell Rooney, Rooney doesn't want to go. Glazers mindful of fan backlash wouldn't sell Rooney.

No way would Real Madrid bid £95m on a player that was unavailable. They'd tap him up first!

Ok here’s one for all you ‘what if’ers’ What If Real offered Ronaldo + say 30mil for Rooney.
Silly I know but, what if they did.
What then?

If that's aimed at me then I don't know what you're talking about, I've never claimed or insinuated that I was a "top red". If you bother to read what Devilish posts on a regular basis, it's pretty much always complaints about us not spending big, writing off any transfer that doesn't come with a big price tag. God forbid anyone who brings it up.

Can you pls make a list of all the big signings I would like the club to make? And correct me if Im wrong but one of the names I mentioned in the previous post {which you had interpreted as an insult} is in fact a 30m signing.

God they're such a spastic club. Discover your own talent you pricks.

They have the money and they have ambition. I dont like their style but Id rather see us take that route then dedicate ourselves in paying Malcolm Glazers debts.

If it is true and it does happen, what kind of message does it send to the rest of the team? They'll all feck off.

Shows you how close to a failed business model we are.

Fergie has the final say. Glazers would be lynched.

Besides, if Jose wants to coach Rooney, why doesn't he wait until Fergie retires or the England job comes up.

dont everton get a huge chunk of that .. 95m wont do it , ie , tempt the glazers

for me , he is priceless..

He's just become a dad for christ sake, he's not going to want to move to Spain.

Deliberate Glazer planted story - feed out a stupid rumour to prove that we wouldn't take the the cash.

Neat plan.

They'll bite their fecking hands off.

Is it that simple?

The Glazers have leveraged a pile of debt against the club which, in its current form can easily service the debt through its income - matchday revenue and other commercial sources (including that generate by the likes of Wayne Rooney).

That sort of business model works as long as the club remains succesful.

While a massive bid for any player may be temtping - selling off the familiy silver only produces short term results. Players like Rooney keep brand United strong, he (hopefully) leads the club to plenty of trophies generating prizemoney and increased gate receipts from reaching the latter stages of the Champions League.

The rumours of United being on the rack financially seem unlikely. While plenty of cash is needed to service the debt, the club can (at this stage anyway) seemingly afford it. What it can't afford is to lose one of its best players and slip down the pecking order.
