Madrid are preparing a £95m bid for Rooney

I think Rooney would turn it down, and that's all that matters.

Exactly. We'd accept, he wouldn't. I suppose he could get "hurt" that we accepted the bid, but I think he'd realize it wasn't Fergie's choice whether to accept it or not. It would be a pure business decision. So I don't see Rooney going anywhere.

It's hardly 'according to the BBC':

1201: As the clock ticks under 11 hours until the Fifa World Cup squad announcement deadline, a tenuous report suggests Manchester United are preparing themselves for a quite astonishing £95m bid from Real Madrid for Wayne Rooney.

Perez himself has said that he doesn't want Rooney and turned down the chance of signing him just after Euro 2004. Their sporting director has said that, Rooney while being a great player, just isn't the player for them. They don't think Rooney would enjoy Spanish life all that much either. Mourinho has said that it'd be impossible to sign Rooney. If he has plans of taking over at United one day for the long term, he also wouldn't want to take Rooney away.

Higuain has just been handed a new contract, they have big plans for Benzema as well. The story is complete bollocks, so stop giving it any attention.

Amen to that.

Complete and utter bollox, no doubt prompted by Mourinho talking up Rooney last week (although deliberately omitting the bit where he admitted Rooney's going nowhere)

On a serious note ('if there is any truth to this) there would be rioting in and around Old Trafford if this came to pass would there not? I mean selling the best English player and best player on the team to Real Madrid before the WC would both finally confirm our fears of the clubs finances and confirm like I said before we are just a fecking farm club for Real Madrid. Fergie has to take a stand if there is anything to this!

We would not sell and Rooney won't want out. But I can imagine if a sum of 95m actually reallly was tabled, it would cause a couple of sleepless nights.

You never know. He did supposedly wear a white shirt in a recent ad that was shot.

If Rooney leaves we would still have Berba and Diouf

Not to forget that we would have 150m to invest and no value to invest in:angel:

SAF hasn't come out against the Rooney rumours yet?

He clearly refuted the Ronaldo ones for a time

I hope they publically launch an Offical bid and we turn them down straight. At least then we can finally see the Glazer's are comfortable and don't need to sell any players.

I also hope Rooney comes out and embarrasses them by saying "There is no way I would ever play for such a shambolic club. I'm staying at a club with class and dignity".

I getting a semi over the thought of it.

Rooney doesn't play for a team that wears a white shirt.....Oh no wait. Also "supposedly", was it the infamous HP sauce again?

I'm sure United realise tht if they sold Rooney they would have a serious fan problem on their hands.....much, much bigger than the LUHG.

Then again I expect Real are daft enough to believe the Glazers will sell for big bucks, mainly because Real seem to have such a maniacal superiority complex.

fecking marvellous

You could be a journalist! They hardly reporting it, it's in the gossip column. That's like saying BBC "report" all stories that are in the star.

and then with the 95 mil on top we'd have 245mil to spend on no one.

I once saw Rooney running towards a camera kissing his badge with all his passion.

You're safe.

Nothing story.

For starters, he's not worth more than Ronaldo, unless it's speculation that it would take a record bid to lure him away.

The Glazers would accept a huge bid IMVHO.

If this happens... i couldnt continue my support for the club.

But it wont while SAF is in charge
Support the club not the players. If by the microscopic chance this happened it doesn't make any difference to who you support. Unless you were being sarcastic, damn we really need that tongue in cheek smiley.
Nothing wrong with Diouf.

One of the advantages of United not spending much, is that it brings fickle glory hunters like you out of the closet. You've got to give Arsenal fans credit because what we've already spent this season, is more than what they do every year, yet you don't hear them up in arms constantly (whilst still paying the most for season tickets of any fans in England too). So how many years of us not spending is it going to take to get "fans" like you, to switch clubs? I'd will SAF not to do it, just so we get rid of the remaining fair weather fans we have (thanks to Chelsea, a fair few have already switched) like you.

Sick of reading the same of rubbish from the same bunch. This isn't aimed at match going fans btw but at "fans" who complain solely because we're not splashing out big. Some fans you are.

If it was true then they'd be daft to turn it down.

£95m for 1 player is insane. Even Rooney is not worth £95m to us. We could strengthen the entire team with that money including a world class striker.

That said, it wont happen.

no they aren't, this came from caughtoffside.com and it's worse than tribalfootball football, who at least attempt to give quotes.

feck knows why the beeb keep quoting them. they're also nazis on their comments section when its pointed out how stupid their piece is.

Manchester United have a staggering £180 million in their transfer coffers but the club have told investors that the kitty can be guaranteed only £25m each financial year, Goal.com UK can reveal.

United’s latest set of financial figures released last Friday revealed that the £80m Cristiano Ronaldo windfall has not yet been spent.

Ferguson's summer catalogue: What United could buy if Glazers loosen the purse strings
In a conference call to investors later that afternoon, United chief of staff Edward Woodward reiterated that the club’s guidance figure of £25m for net transfer spending remained valid.

Given that the Old Trafford club also have a further £75m credit facility available, in theory there is £180m available to spend on players, which would give Sir Alex Ferguson a budget to rival Manchester City’s.

The reality, though, is somewhat different. The quarterly results for the period January to end of March 2010, which take in the first nine months of the financial year, showed that the Glazers are continuing to increase the debt burden on the club despite the healthy growth in matchday, media and commercial revenue.

Although the overall debt in the club has decreased from £543.3m year-on-year to £520m, it has increased by £12m since the Glazers took out a £500m bond in January to refinance what the club calls their “senior debt”.

The accounts of Red Football Ltd, United’s holding company, show a cash balance of £95.9m, but around £45m of it will be paid in interest. The figures also disclosed that the club lost £40.7m in a disastrous interest rate swap secured as part of a 2007 financing arrangement.
